People forget how insanely fast he was before the switch to the turbo hybrid era… i’d say he definitely could still be a championship contender if given a competitive car that doesnt die off mid season
@@Fehnz you got it right on. There's an argument he blew 2017 (though i think no more credible than if Max lost this season). But people keeping bringing up 2018, as if Ferrari was anywhere near Merc after the mid-season break.

@@hockey1freak blowing 2017 is not of his fault at all, majority of the points deficit was due to reliability issues resurfacing
however, 2018 was about vettel's confidence with the car slipping away since germany

Proved us all wrong didn't he, most overtakes , 2 podium(FIA f your self) and beat his teammate despite unable to adapt to his car at the start of the year

I think he was pretty good this year, extremely unlucky throughout the year tho, but he showed how good he is in wheel to wheel combat this year. Lets hope AM have a much better car next year!
You forgot, he adapted to the car with literally no testing befor the season as his car was always broke. So the first proper meters were the first races…
His battle with Charles at Sochi especially how he defended was just impressive. If anything it does show he still has it and shows he is a capable in wheel to wheel combat. Also another cool thing is he doesn’t forced the move in most of em just pick em off when the opportunity arises. Which is why Seb,Nando and Kimi have so many overtakes this year

Vettel is definitely one of the all time greats. It's just his driving depends on his mood and motivation too much
Eh I wouldn't be motivated to just get in the top 10 as an older driver either. I don't think that unique to Seb. No multiple championship is going to stick around d after winning just to be in the midfield. There is no motivation in that. If you've never won the championship in F1 or have no other life I guess so and there are exceptions, but fir the most part how the heck would anyone stay motivated aside from money which after making so much even that isn't t enough
Same thoughts here, imo phrase "you are as good as your last race" is very hurtfull and just simply not true. You just can't follow those thinking when being in a wdc fight and challenging for the greatness. Nor max or lewis were having those kinds of swinging performances this year. They were the best of themselfes everytime, nevertheless of anything and what the outcome of their last race was.

i guess it's his ability to manage his temper and patience under pressure that made him inferior to drivers like alonso and hamilton. I'm a seb fan myself and i consider him as one of the greatest in terms of race skills, but his mental is his flaw
Vertel had an underrated season, he just didn’t have the car under him. Other than that 2 podiums and a bunch of good results is not too shabby :) I always questioned sebs ability to overtake but he made some amazing ones this season

Seb pulls some of the most audacious moves. My favourite of all time being on Bottas in Spain 2017.

He was freakiing amazing from the get go, I mean he already overtook a faster McLaren in the wet of Brazil 2008.
We sometimes forget that this dude is one of the greatest of all time and we are still able to watch him race.

After being in midfield I’d say it made him a better driver overall. Before he admitted he did not do good in wheel to wheel racing, now give him a faster car and we will see a better vettel
Amazing comment, the first time I am seeing this mentioned, glad to see someone realizing that midfield racing can make drivers better and doesnt mean they are falling off the pace.

Knowing that Alpha Tauri was 6th with 142 points and Aston Martin was 7 with 77 poitns, his performance was exceptional.
4:15 - 4:19 you can clearly see at ferrari’s rear height change how slipstream effects car’s downforce.
That's not the slipstream by the way. It's just a technique used by other teams where the rear suspension lowers after the car has hit a certain speed the shots up as soon as the driver go on the brake

@@peksimet3149 yeah that's also not slipstream. As I said the rear of the car lowers when it hits a certain speed due to a suspension technique used by some teams. Mercedes has the most effective one
@@SHZAli07 thank you but I thought that slipstream causes the change because I couldn’t notice any change on mclaren and other cars. I know every team’s car are different but they have to maximize the efficiency according to the laws of physics. So they probably use suspension technic at similar speeds.

Look at the way Seb defended against Checo. It’s aggressive but cleanly executed to perfection. Even more amazing considering that Checo himself is a beast in wheel to wheel battles.

That's true. Like you say - let's hope they step up. I think they are in the sport to stay, though. I'm confident they will be strong next year. I'd also like to see Lance take some steps forward.

This really opened my eyes. Great video to celebrate the overtakes of a great driver.
I knew he won the overtake award, but for some silly reason I assumed it was about track positions gained... ie: including track positions gained by 'overtaking' other drivers when they do a pitstop.
But it only counts actual overtakes. Kudos to Inspector Seb, he did a great job in all (but one) of the overtakes. I guess his qualifying pace is worse than his actual race pace, so he ends up overtaking a lot of cars where it's the other way around.
Here's to hoping AM will be a more competetive car next season. I'd love to see Seb on the podium a few more times. A fifth title would suit him well, too.
