The high pitch you hear is High Tenor and that is Ralph Stanley. I used to sit and listen to him live sitting on his front porch when I was much much younger. My mother is a Stanley and we all lived within a few miles of each other. I miss those days so much. Wish it could be like that now. Carter

Still the best version of that song I've ever heard. Pure mountain singin', It just don't get no better.

Sheesh.. I'm 21 years old and would love to start a bluegrass band. But no one my age understands the beauty of this kind of harmony. Its kind of upsetting. R.I.P Keith

No matter who is smoothing out the lead, one thing that folks always overlook about these classic Stanley trios is the fact that Jack Cooke was a baritone singing monster! He blended so good that most of the time his voice was transparent....just like a good baritone ought to be. I miss ole' Jack.

Now this is true old time, mountain style Bluegrass.... The ending harmony is absolutely amazing!!!!!!!! I give it 100 stars just for the ending!

I got to hear Keith do a concert from the front porch of my house when he was playing at a local elementary school in our home town of Sandy Hook. This was just before or after Lorrie and him got married. I wasn't allowed to go to the concert because I was to young. But could hear it plainly from the front porch.

@1968Randall i used to live in virginia when i was a kid--and was dragged by my parents to every bluegrass festival in the area. little did i know i was watching history take place. what i wouldn't give to go back to watching bluegrass--going fishing and picking blackberries for my mom to make a pie?

How can you not love this music and the harmonies??? I was raised on it, along with country and rock, but this is barebones singin & playin. Nothing better in this world!!!

We need to get back to this type of music. The Country Music now a days all sound the same and they all mimic other singers instead of being themselves. Give George Jones and others like him ... Their Music will Never Die ! Country , Bluegrass, and Oldies all need more attention !

Alright! We're back on track. I sure missed them doing that song. Thanks for re-posting it. That ending gives me chill bumps all the down to my toes. That's the "real" mountain singing. No frills, fancy costumes, Vegas hype, or exploding stages, just raw soulful mountain singing. It's the greatest. May it live forever.

lol i didn't recognize him without all the hair. Too bad there aren't any radio stations around Dallas that play good stuff like this. I heard "Don't Close Your Eyes" -once- on 99.5 FM, but that was it. most of what they play is either rock-a-billy type music, or it has a hip-hop beat. I miss the old-fashioned, true-blue country music.
