      What a FUCKING GOOAAAALLL that was. What a game what a year. Liverpool beat Juventus and Chelsea to reach the final as well as olympiakos and all of them games were dramatic. Remember Luis Garcia's peach of a goal against Juventus? What a season man I was only 13 but can remember it all.

    My favourite Liverpool of all time. Watched him pretty much his whole career at Liverpool. To think that he remained at Liverpool during our darkest days and carrying the team is a amazing. Sadly he couldn’t retire with a league medal with us

But when it comes to leadership qualities, one is very unlikely to succeed if one does not incorporate barking orders to other teammates on the football pitch, which SG never did. Look at all the successful captains of other premiership winning teams, most of them were talkers or shouters.

      Nah he was a special player no doubt but he wasn't an all rounder. He didn't run games, he was more of an impact player. Yeah he could play different positions but he only had one style of play, which is top gear all the time. Not a knock, Gerrard is one of my favourite players of all time. It's just loads of people say he was an all round player and it's just not true. He didn't slow games down like some other players did, he had to have the team built to fit his style. You could say the same of Messi so it's not a criticism.

    He was a one man army.All action. Defends tackles, fouls, dribbles,scores goals ,assists what not. No pretentious of his status yet imperious. Takes yellow or red cards for the team. Wish we had Stevie now in this Klopp team or somebody like him.

      @@realnesx Nonsense. Liverpool had some great teams. I would argue that the 2008/09 team was one of Liverpools best in the PL era. Rafa Benitez screwed the fans over by prioritising Champions League glory over winning the league, which they should have done comfortably.

    Not a Liverpool fan, but Gerrard was the outstanding Captain of his era. In a poor Liverpool team he won them the champions league and a hair away from the premier league. Scholes, Lampard were great but played in great teams.

    I miss the Talisman so much.. i'm glad that i get to live to see him play since he was young until he retired. Although he did not have an EPL title, he always won my heart over that UCL Istanbul's title win over AC Milan with a splendid leadership and morale boost to make a comeback in a final. Nothing but respect for this lad

    Torres and Gerrard as a partnership in their prime were immense. But Torres was chasing the bright lights and the money whilst Gerrard was quietly becoming a legend, not just at Anfield but in world football. Any team would have welcomed him, whereas just one move away from Liverpool saw Torres disappear into the shadows. Had he stayed at Anfield, stayed fit and focused, we could now be talking about him in the same way as Gerrard.

He said Scholes was the best of his generation before Gerrard came but when Gerrard arrived on the scene he was simply the best and the world accepts that. Only Zidane and Iniesta were ahead of Gerrard. In terms of quality he was unbeatable and he played for an average Liverpool team and beat giants like Juve, Madrid, Barca etc I don’t think anyone can do what Gerrard did not even Messi because Gerrard did defence and attack. Literally carried the team

    I always found Gerrard to be a different kind of player. He's quite an interesting player - he's got a unique technique the likes of Zidane, Beckham, Figo, R9, Messi and Ronaldo have - each different but very effective. He does have some similarities to Zidane, but he's more direct and dynamic at times.
    Hadn't seen prime Gerrard for a while - I just remember his extreme physical demise in his last few seasons. I guess those early years playing (wasn't he 17,18 when he played first team football?) and all those calf, thigh and hip problems he had lead to his rapid slowing.

      @@sulyah Gerrard wasn't a defensive mid at the time. He was more of an attacking mid. It wasn't until under Rodgers that Gerrard started playing deeper.
