      Hymer300 Just learn the rallye language. He uses the standard terminology. I must admit that this stage was really a test for the co-driver as well. A very difficult one to read pace notes from!

    • @theant9821
      @theant9821 Před 9 lety +10

      Hymer300 different drivers/co-drivers use different terminology. Solberg and mills for example used: 6 right for a 6th gear right, 4 right for a 4th gear right and so on. 3 left minus would be a tight 3rd gear left and plus would be a fast 3rd gear corner and so on often the terms square or 90 then the direction is used for a 90° corner, if you watch plenty of onboard rallying and interviews with co-drivers you'll soon pick it up, or play rallying games on games consoles.

    "Right-ish... Right-ish to Jump, maybe"
    I´m sure this is totally normal code for "very easy right, and then there´s a crest that could make us lose surface contact if we go over fast enough", but I imagined it like this:
    "So you go somewhat right, and then maybe there is a jump. Maybe not, though. Fuck man, I don´t know, we´ll see what happens. No, I don´t want to ask for directions, that´d be embarrassing."

    • @jetgamma7601

    • @timoj1044
      @timoj1044 Před 8 lety +1

      +Jet Gamma I've heard someone suggest that "maybe" == "flat out if you're on the right line", perhaps like "low margin for error". I'm not sure that he was right though. It's definitely seems to me like they're using a shorthand code to describe either the road, and/or line. I wish I knew more about it too be completely honest.

    • @IMrIMike
      @IMrIMike Před 8 lety +4

      +Timo J Yeah I think it all depends whether you hit the previous right or not, as it influences the exit speed and thus the speed with which you are arriving at the jump or crest. If you are slower, then you will obviously not get airborne, so therefore "maybe".

    • @CoproManiac
      @CoproManiac Před 8 lety +1

      +Jeremy J. "Maybe" is used in the earlier stages of making notes. It's very easy to waste a lot of time by trying to get the severity of every corner exactly right on the first run, so using "maybe" is a good reminder to check it on the next run. It's also short and communicates to the driver that what is recorded as a 4 could be a 5, etc, thus making them take the corner slightly more cautiously.

      Instead of the traditional number system used in pace notes( [1-9] and lower the number the more severe the turn.) They used whats called a simplified pace notes system that just uses "slight , fast, medium, hard, easy, bad, etc" to describe the turns. Juha Kankkunen also used this system because even though he's Finnish his pace notes were also in English.

    @irisnokaori The gear changes are done by the computer using the paddles on the steering wheel, which usually changes the gears faster and also controls the clutch. The shifter knob is usually just a back up for if the paddle system fails.

      Loeb beat both Sainz and Mcrae in the same car in his rookie season and lost the championship by 1 point the same year due to team orders. Theres a reason he dominated for 9 yrs. And I wouldnt call Hirvonen, Gronholm and Solberg bums exactly... The disrespect frenchman gets is insane honestly. We get it, it was boring when he was winning but he was simply too good. I dont think he cares too much about what people say anyways...

    @hijacker520 basically sharpness of turns, crests, narrowing or widening, distance, things like that. severity if turns is indicated by number. usually 1 being the sharpest
