The bad drawing followed by an immediate "Yes that's Ramona Flowers" is my favorite joke of the movie 🤣
Hugely underrated gag.
"i told him, you've got a really good sound and I think you that you should market your sound... To deaf people." Cuomo is underrated 😂😂
"No, the first album is much better than the first album." - Comeau
Mine too
Maximus and Thaddeus in the new Fallout show confirming the headless corpse's identity using the drawing of his head is in the same vein as this scene, I'd say. lol
“He punched the highlights out of her hair! ☹️” 😂
HE PUNCHED THE HIGHLIGHTS OUT OF HER HAIR!!!!! ❤
Sht absolutely KILLS me 💀
I love how Scott's stupid little drawing is JUST accurate enough for Comeau to instantly go "Yes, that's Ramona Flowers.", based entirely on how the hair was drawn.
This movie is an absolute masterpiece of propulsive editing. Edgar Wright is a true genius of cinema.
I didn't realise til recently, but the appearance of Nega Scott after Gideon is because 'he' was Ramona's 8th evil ex!
Once they broke up he had to fight himself!
And "Nega Scott" is actually a pretty nice guy, because for most of the movie. . . Scott's kind of an asshole. So his "equal and opposite" would be pretty okay.
@@erikbjelke4411 This is my favorite joke. The opposite of Scott is this cool guy who is fun to hang out with lol.
@@lego1591 facts
Fun fact: This movie was written and released before the novel series was finished so they didn't know who he would end up with. There's an alternative ending where he goes with Knives.
One of the best ensemble casts ever. Everyone brings it, everyone has fun with it, and it shows.
"Bread makes you fat?!" makes me laugh every single time.
I love that because Scott isn't a full on hero and not really that nice a guy, a bit of a jerk, so nega- Scott is really kind of an all right guy.
Knives is probably the nicest character.
Scott is the eighth evil ex.
This movie had a Captain America (Chris Evans), a Human Torch (also Chris Evans), a Superman (Brandon Routh), a Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), a Punisher (Thomas Jane), a Batgirl (Mae Whitman), and a Wondergirl (also Mae Whitman).
More superheroes than the first Avengers movie
Routh's also the Atom from the DC TV universe.
@@JournoNerd312 I didn't know that!
@@randalthor741 and in later seasons of The Flash he reprises his Superman role for a couple of episodes.
There’s also Joe Dinicol who is credited as Elevator Hipster who played Rory Regan aka Ragman. And Ben Lewis credited as Other Scott who played William Clayton, son of Oliver Queen. Both in Arrowverse.
11:19 - I have said for years, and this just proves it one more: The greatest word in comedy is "again."
Baby Driver (2017) is another Edgar Wright film!
My favorite thing about Edgar Wright films is how the visuals support the jokes. Cuts and in-frame actions often line up with the dialogue, so both elements are made better.
My favorite part is that you can watch it 5 times and still find new Easter eggs.
Living in Toronto when this movie came out, spotting a couple friends who played extras, walking the locations they showcase... it was so incredibly formative and iconic to us. And to a certain millennial demographic.
I can rewatch this over and over and spot new things every time.
If you want more, Netflix recently released an animated version using all of the same voice cast from the movie!
That one movie with Captain America (and also the Human Torch), Superman (and also The Atom), and Captain Marvel before they were famous
And a former Frank Castle, The Punisher @ 22:04
Brandon Routh was never really famous and most likely peaked with Superman, which was before this movie.
Highly recommend Baby Driver if you haven't seen it. It's the movie Wright made when his Ant-man deal fell through...
I had to make sure there was a Baby Driver recommendation before I navigated away to another video.
23:54 Ramona is using "Hammer Space." XD it's a common film, TV and animation trope where people pull stuff out of literally nowhere (usually behind their back). It's called Hammer Space, because most people pull a Hammer of gigantic size from there xD
The editing in this movie is in. sane. Like every frame contains at least a couple easter eggs, including the numbers of exes (when he's fighting the girl on the street there are 7 crosses on the wire above, 2 out of which are down, 5 to go; when the twins are rocking out in the club their numbers are 5 and 6 in Mandarin I believe, which adds up to 11 when they crank the volume up, and so on and so on), plus the overall ADHD style of cutting mid-line and crazy transitions... What an experience.
One of my fave films - there's just no way it can be constantly interrupted with pointless attempts to deconstruct each gag only to miss the point of the gag and the next quick-fire retorts.
Like trying to walk a child through a George Carlin routine!
On a sheer technical level this is an absolutely bravura piece of film-making. Oscar-worthy in every category like sound, editing, effects, cinematography.
The funniest comedy I've ever seen. "Bread makes you fat?"will never not be funny 😂😂
Gotta break out the L word.
Lesbian?
The other L word.
Lesbians?
This and Hot Fuzz are eternally duking it out for my favorite comedy. It is a SLUGFEST.
Agreed!
This is probably one of my favorite movies of the 2010's!
You should check out one of Edgar Wright's other films called Baby Driver ❤
This movie is timeless, for it's creativity; subtlety and awesome music. It was not easy to digest on first watch until I started really watching movies and appreciating the craft. The cast is AWESOME!
This was such a cool movie, glad it's reached cult status.
You should checkout the animated series that came out, the cast all returned to voice their characters
This movie never fails to make me smile. Great to see a fresh perspective.
Addie's big smile always brightens my day! She's always such a joy.
Fun fact: Brandon Routh, the actor who played the vegan ex-boyfriend, is also known for playing Superman in the movie Superman Returns. He went to the same high school in Iowa and was on the same high school soccer team as Jason Mamoa.
That high school had a Superman and an Aquaman in its halls. I wonder if they get a Batman or Wonder Woman from there to if they'll change the high school's name to The Hall of Justice?
well this actual movie has Superman, Captain Marvel, Captain America AND the Human Torch, Huntress, Robin (animated representation lol), and doesn't even include the villian stars in the movie.
Brandon Roth also played the Atom in legends of Tomorrow and the vegan police was Thomas Jane AKA the punisher. @eolsunder
American schools are pretty shabby but I doubt they're quite ready to become outright daycares like what you're suggesting
@@josephwallace202?
Love this movie. There's also a Netflix animated series called "Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life" that came out last year which is also good (and most (all?) of the original cast is in it).
The only significant cast change was the narrator, who was Bill Hader in the movie.
The Netflix series is quite fun, and best watched while the movie is fresh in your mind. A cool reminder of how our views can change in 13 years.
The Netflix series is called "Scott Pilgrim Takes Off". "Precious Little Life" is the first chapter of the original graphic novel.
@@Xone9 "Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life" is also the name of the first episode of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.
Not just the original cast came back. Edgar Wright produced and the original creator Brian O'Malley developed the story. Also Anamanaguchi, who did the soundtrack for the game, did the soundtrack for the show. Truly a passion project for everyone involved.
Nicely Nested Parentheses (Parenthesises?(Parenthesises?))
You have to watch Scott Pilgrim Takes Off animated series after this!
I saw this in the theater when it came out more or less by accident--picked at random when I hadn't chosen a movie ahead of time. It was just like Addie's experience: HOLY CRAP THIS IS AMAZING!!! Lesson I learned: avoid trailers.
The Katayanagi twins were considerably different in the graphic novels. The reason they have such a short appearance and no dialogue is because they don’t speak English. The writer wanted them to be twins and ethnically correct. With such a tight time limit think they did it great.
With as much as you enjoyed it, I'd recommend you look up the reunion of Zoom that the cast did during 2020 lockdown. They did a read through of the script and had the author of the original graphic novels drawing pictures of the characters at the same time.
And there’s a netflix animated show!
OMG, this has grown to be one of my favorite movies... so many hilarious moments, but the king of them all (IMO) is "You know what? [CRASH] He just left."
8:50 I wish they put "I Am So Sad I Am So Very Very Sad" on Spotify
3:03 That was a real record store called Sonic Boom, and it was one of the best places for cool music in Toronto. I spent many Saturday afternoons scoping out their selections. RIP!
I've been looking forward to this all week, and it didn't disappoint. In my opinion, Scott Pilgrim is one of the most underrated movies of all time, and it's always a joy to watch people have their first experience with it. Thanks for letting us come along for the ride!
The tempo in this movie is crazy!
This movie was quite a big bomb when it came out. The marketing was confused, and they just didn't now how to get Joe and Jane Walmart to go along to it. A much easier sell were the two movies it debuted with, THE EXPENDABLES and EAT PRAY LOVE.
But as Edgar has said, in the years since, every single screening they have ever had of this movie completely sells out. And to me that is the true testament to a movie's worth.
You should also watch the recent animated series “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” It starts out with the same story as the movie/comics but there’s a twist at the end of episode one
I like that they casted someone from "Arrested development" reuniting her with Michael Cera and she actually played his gf
... her?
The boss battle is hilariously good, and the Nega Scott is extra fun.
Nega Scott being a nice guy really says alot.
Very few almost perfect comic adaptations or translations have been made with pure love like Scott pilgrim, Sin City, Kick-Ass, The Crow, TMNT, 300, and even the first 2 Blade movies : )
This movie is filled with actors who have played comic book characters in other films.
Gen Hera Syndulla before the Rebellion. :) This was such an awesome and so funny movie on so many levels. :)
Before the Cornetto Trilogy, Edgar Wright teamed up with Simon Pegg, Jessica Hynes, and Nick Frost on a short, fun sitcom called Spaced.
It’s an interesting way to see how his style has evolved over the years.
Spaced was great!
I wasn't sure if you'd like this when I saw it on your upcoming reactions. Really glad you did. It's a fun film. Plenty of stuff to laugh heartily at. The first time I watched it with my buddy, when he launched himself out the window, I laughed so hard I cried.
Can't wait to see what else you watch Addie!
Fun fact: the line "Big fan" "Wouldn't you be?" Between Wallace and Lucas Lee is based on a real exchange Edgar Wright had backstage with Howlin' Pelle Almqvist of The Hives, which is both really funny and so in-character for him.
This is my favorite way to explain how relationships are complicated.
The animated Scott Pilgrim show would be a fun follow-up. The whole cast came back. It's fantastic.
Your next foray into the Edgar Wright world should probably be Baby Driver. It's a caper movie, but the special hook is that it is how to make the music become a character in the movie as scenes and movements are carefully synchronized to the music. It is stunning to watch!
If you are interested in more Edgar Wright… “Baby Driver” is pretty great.
I love seeing the reaction to Scott Pilgrim merely for the fact that it's based here in Toronto (it's kind of melancholy cause a lot of what's in the film - the places - some of them no longer exist) But the parts that are still here are still lovely.
“You still have not broken up with Knives” Well to be fair, she and Scott weren’t really together to begin with. They didn’t even hold hands.
As much as I enjoy just about every part of this movie, the side characters really make it for me. Especially Wallace and Julie.
This movie is so fun!
One of my all-time favorite movies!!! I've seen it so many times! He's so good at misdirection, I like to say that Edgar Wright is my favorite 'mis'-director.
OMG, I am so happy you reacted to this movie. Its one of my favorites. Executed amazingly, love the visuals, great music and a star studded cast before they were all famous.
In 2020 they did a Zoom script reading video with most of the cast. They are all very fond of this movie and the Netflix animation that just came out also has most of the OG cast doing the voices. So underrated, never understood why it flopped when released, probably ahead of its time or something.
If you liked this a lot, you should also check out "A Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (2005)" if you haven't seen it before.
Another great but under-appreciated film that's wacky in all the right ways with a ton of great actors.
Captain America, Captain Marvel and Superman in the same movie
Don't forget the Punisher. Thomas Jane was one of the Vegan Police.
I'm sure Baby driver is gonna get suggested a million times, but Last Night in Soho is also worth a watch!
i recommend you :
🔥 *Mean Girls* (2004) / *Lindsay Lohan* & *Rachel McAdams*
🔥 *Superbad* (2007) / *Michael Cera* & *Emma Stone*
🔥 *21 Jump Street* (2012) / *Jonah Hill* & *Brie Larson*
🔥 *Project X* (2012)
BONUS TARCK
★ *Paul* (2011)
/starring *Simon Pegg* , *Nick Frost* , *Kristen Wiig* & *Seth Rogen* (as Paul)
_(Amazing cast)_
She has seen Mean Girls (2004). She did watch that movie on her own.
Omg Addie! Your reaction to this movie is awesome!!! This is my fav movie of all time, and when it first came out I had friends calling me to say: Ray they made a movie about your life! I'm still trying to find my Ramona though. Lol
One of my favorites.
I like Mary Elizabeth in "Fargo" Season 3 as a villain and "Cloverfield Lane"
As a Torontonian I absolutely love this bonkers movie. One reason being that I've known most of these locations for years. And it's great seeing so many of them in one movie. 😁❤🇨🇦
The next Edgar Wright flick you should watch is Baby Driver. Another really fun and unique movie of his.
I recommend watching the table read reunion 😊
The transitions in this movie are just amazing
11:20 I just noticed Knives friend ducked out as soon as she woke her up, she wasn't ready for that drama lol
Amazing casting.
Can't wait for Addie to watch Baby Driver.
This is one of my favorite movies!
I love how the only person to find Matthew Patel randomly breaking out into song is Anna Kendrick. She’s one to talk!
I'm just stating the obvious but, this movie is awesome 👌
One of my favorites
One of my favorite movies ever.
So glad you got to see this movie. So good. So stylized it still holds up today. 👌🏽
Definitely one of my favorite movies.
You can also watch the anime! Its fantastic and not at all a retread of the same story
Most of the big names you recognized were not yet famous when this movie first came out.
Yes! I'm glad you "got" this movie 🙂
This is a movie I didn't expect to like, but turned out awesome. Glad younger-me gave it a chance.
Ok, now you HAVE to watch the animated series
So many movies are shot in Toronto but are supposed to be in NY or LA. It's weird to see a movie actually set where it's filmed. And the bar , Lee's Palace, it really is a sewer.
There’s now an anime series on Netflix and everyone came back to voice their characters
Looking Edgar Wright up, "Last Night in Soho" is cool.
Love this movie. Such a fresh concept. ✌️❤️🌹
I love that this was the turning point for Brandon Routh. He got to play Superman, and it just turned into a disappointment (not his fault, it was just a bad movie, and he played it pretty straight lace - though he does have one of the coolest superman scenes where a bullet hits his eyeball and bounces off). But he managed to get a second chance and people discovered he was actually a really funny actor (people thought he was going to be the Henry Cavill of his time, but it turns out he's a pretty good comedic actor) and he really managed to regenerate his career with these roles. AND he got to play Superman again in a funnier light that audiences loved (he did it on Legends of Tomorrow where he was already playing a different character in the show and they interact. The people in the show point out how they look exactly the same).
You should really watch Baby Driver and Last Night in SoHo. Both films by Edgar Wright and both amazing films in their own right!
Baby Driver is another good one from Edgar Wright.
If I may, the Spaced series is absolutely amazing. Edgar Wright, Nira Park (producer on a number of Wright's films) and many of the same cast from the Cornetto Trilogy. I would love to see your reaction to it.
If you watch the interviews and BTS scenes from this movie you can see how much fun the whole cast had with this movie.
It's crazy how you can tell that people are having a good time filming a movie.
One of my favorite movies
Jason Swartzman's best film is "Rushmore" with Bill Murray.
Klaus.
You should definitely watch it over again and look out for the subtle little Easter eggs cuz they make the movie even more fun. Like how each evil ex encounter shows their number in some way before/during the fight. For example, Todd wears the number 3 on his shirt and they go to a club called 4 before they face Roxy. A lot of hidden detail went into this movie
I really like how you do your react videos. I mean when you talk, it doesn't get in the way of the movie. your timing is great! that's one of many reasons I enjoy your work
bonus: definitely check out Edgar Wright's other movies. you liked this, you'll like them 💯
So Ramona dated Captain America, Superman (who was also the Atom) and she would go on to marry Obi Wan Kenobi - And Scott dated Huntress, Captain Marvel and the Borg Queen -
Scott Pilgrim had to fight Captain America, Superman, and Katara and used to date Captain Marvel
This movie is dripping with stylization. Even more than the Cornetto trilogy, in my opinion.
I love this movie. This was the first movie I saw with Brie Larson and Mary Elizabeth Winstead and I have become a fan of both. I loved how Ramona kept changing her hair color and I loved the colors. And Brie Larson as Envy Adams was great. She was amazing when she was up on stage singing. And there were so many funny and hilarious performances in this movie. Chris Evans as Lucas Lee was so cool. I could say so much more about this, but it would take too long.
I like how Addie's hair is always curly.
One of the greatest films ever made!
