Brazil gets their second goal because the ref cards Solo for coming off the goal line early during a PK (which she didn't), but then during the shootout, the Brazilian keeper comes off her line early for all five PKs and none are called. Unbelievable.
True. Questionable Calls. US netted all of their attempts though so it didn't matter. Glad they secured the victory

The ref must of hated the US team, she tried hard to rob them of a victory, yes Its quite obvious that Hope Solo never leaves the line on the Marta Penalty Kick. Then in the shootout the allows the Brazilian goal keeper to leave her line on every kick! Plus on the Marta goal in extra time Brazil was off-sides, on the replay the show you can clearly see that players foot was past the off-sides line.

if the US hadn't scored, the ref would've made them retake the pk but since the keeper cheated and the US scored anyways, it didn't have to be retaken

Hope wasn't off her line and yeah, she was offsides. Should've ended 1-0 US. The match wouldn't have lasted long enough for Wombach's goal.
Brazil faking injuries to try killing the clock got them penalized, extending it for.. that goal.
The difference was the goalies. Solo way better than the Brazilian.

And the ref couldn’t call Wambach’s goal offsides because she would need the assistant refs to agree of that call, and they didn’t, they never raised their flags.

A decade later, and I still can't believe this happened. I was super lucky to have that day off.....when Abby headed that ball in, there was definitely Corona flying, a bunch of yelling, and my Great Dane going nutso in my living room. What a game!!!!

What a classic intense game between 2 great teams. Watching Wambach rising, rising and snapping at the ball like an eagle is such a thrill every time !
Hope made a picture perfect save on penalty kick! This referee's decision is absolutely rediculose!!! And a red card to O'Riley??? It's a simple fight foul, not a deliberate or dangerous one, so a yellow would do!

@@gabrielgarciamaldonado1013 Watching the video in slow motion shows that the US player went into the box only a few frames before the ball was struck, if it was retaken because of that then it is very harsh.
That referee was one of the worst I’ve ever seen in 50 years of playing and watching football.

The greatest game of any sport I’ve seen. Brought me to tears of joy for the American girls. I watched the game a few times got chills every time. Brazil was getting every call , they even faked injuries to waist time in the end. USA with 10 players for about 40+ mins. What a cross by Rapinoe!
This game always makes me so angry when I watch it, but at least USA won. If Brazil won, I'm not sure what I would do with myself... Really, the only goal that should've counted for Brazil was the own goal. The PK was fine the first time, it was a great save, and their second goal was clearly offsides. I wonder what the difference would be with VAR.
This was the best World Cup ever! And this game was the greatest comeback I have ever seen! As a Japanese American, I felt I have won for both countries watching this world cup

When you take into account both the match itself and the backstory I’d say this is perhaps the most dramatic match I’ve ever scene.
I can’t remember another match where at the beginning the crowd is slightly for one team and by the end it is totally for the other.

This is when the USA has their best roster. The final that year was rough... but we came back in 2015 & 2019 for the win. It's a shame how Rapinoe went from this- a hero, to becoming obsessed with her outside activism which essentially ruined her legacy. 2023 was a pure embarrassment for the USA due to Rapinoe. Hopefully they'll manage to come back now that the poison is gone.

.Besides starting heated arguments, this video shows some of the serious problems in soccer rules and officiating that have never been resolved. 10 years later, and we still don't know why the penalty kick was retaken, or why the yellow card was given. Why can't soccer referees give hand signals that clearly indicate what kind of infraction supposedly occurred?
There was also just plain bad judgement, like the case of the intentional hand ball that merited a second yellow (or even red) card.
The rule about the GK leaving the line before the PK is way too weak. The Brazilian GK was only "punished" once when her cheating allowed her to block Boxx's first attempt. All of her other infractions somehow didn't matter because she failed to stop the kicks. A serious rule would not only automatically award a goal each time, but yellow and red cards should be issued on the first and second offenses.

The comments below a heart felt and honest and agree with them. What I do not agree with is the claim that this was a great game and that the US played great soccer. In fact, our playing sucked for the most part. Without Solo this would have been a disaster. Carly Lloyd hasn't learned a thing about accuracy when shooting on goal. My comment here is in a game that occurred 10 years ago. She still can't find the goal most of the time, not withstanding that in between she has played well and got some
goals. She could have had 4 times as many because her accuracy according to the experts is 20% which is unbecoming a national soccer star.

the ref made a bad call on both. she claimed Hope Solo moved from the line, which you can move side to side (legal) but not move forward (illegal). on top of that she gave her a yellow for what was perceived as an illegal move.
