  • Featuring "Can you hear me?" by Thomas Hewitt Jones and Matt Harvey, a song to raise awareness of mental health issues and loneliness during the pandemic of 2020.
The Justinus Ensemble was founded by the Netherlands-based British mezzo-soprano and composer Emma Brown, during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic of 2020.
Prevented from carrying out her foreign engagements by travel- and quarantine restrictions, Emma formed the Justinus Ensemble in order to provide recorded music for virtual events including the Scarva Pageant in Northern Ireland and the VE Festival in Hay on Wye, Wales. Alongside well-known songs and hymns the ensemble recorded the first performance in The Netherlands of Thomas Hewitt-Jones's song, “Can You Hear Me?”, composed to raise awareness of mental health and loneliness issues during the pandemic.
The ensemble is led by the British/Dutch pianist, organist and conductor Brian Fieldhouse, whose career has taken him from the music staffs of the Royal Ballet, Covent Garden to the Dutch National Opera.
The ensemble's recordings are produced by Peter Breedijk, to whom they are most grateful.
The recordings were made in the Hooglandse Kerk, Leiden. The church is of cathedral dimensions, making it possible for the performers to maintain safe distances while rehearsing and recording. The church also possesses a fine, recently-restored English organ by the great Victorian organ-builder Henry (“Father”) Willis.
The Justinus Ensemble wishes to thank the Hooglandse Kerk and the Stichting Cathedral Organ Leiden.
