I hung out at Time Squar/5th Ave areas most of the time. Oh the stations were like dungeons, scary and filthy. Even inside the trains, graffiti and broken glasses etc. It was truly an experience that you didn't really want to have.
I suppose one could say that China's train systems are newer than NYC. But that still doesn't give them an excuse to be so filthy. Japan has some old train lines but they were nice and clean as well.

@Tyler Joseph It is NOT spending overseas or on the actual military it is a massive financial shakedown. The Pentagon contracts system is the biggest financial criminal racket in history. The US spends $1Trillion a year on its Military budget (Congressional Military budget is $800Billion). Russia spends $60Billion on their military. Russia now has more advanced missiles than the USA ( and our idiot UK/US media still peddle the comfort myth that Russia is more corrupt). Julian Assange told us 10 years ago that the NATO occupation of Afghanistan had nothing to do with building a credible Afghan state or military. It was a massive shakedown of NATO nations taxpayers to feed into mostly US corporate contractors.

I used to live in Chicago, and we were told that we were lucky to have a train & bus transportation system that crisscrossed the whole city. Chicago is one of the few cities in America where buying a car is optional, because the whole city is accessible by public transportation. But their buses and their trains are slow as Hell, taking more than 2 hours to arrive at your destination is considered good, even though you could reach there in under 30 minutes if you travel by car.
The trains are so noisy that it is impossible to talk or hear any conversations. And the trains are dangerous, a friend of mine died after falling off the train as it was moving with the door stuck open. Yes, the ambulances showed up, made a flashy scene and all, some passengers even laughed at the whole situation. On another day, I witnessed a passenger who looked like he was sleeping, and a group of gangsters were emptying out his pockets. So I walked up to them, I didn't know if he was really sleeping or they had knocked him out, either way, I tried to do something about it, as the train reached to a stop, as soon as the doors opened, the gangs shoved me out of the train, which happened to be my stop.
And then all that graffiti, the scribbling marks all over the walls and stuff, they actually mean something. Gangs fight among themselves for specific territories. A particular gang grafitti indicates a particular gang, and anyone who tries to remove that grafitti is risking their life. Someone I knew, an immigrant, who owned a grocery store, erased a grafitti on his store wall, and refused to hand over his profits to the neighborhood gang, and even reported the gang to the Police. The Police did nothing, his grocery store was burned to the ground, and he just felt lucky that they didn't kill him.

I lived in New York for many years before I moved to China. Not every subway station is as bad as the 191st Street Station, but a disturbingly high number of them are, even back then. Sadly, even the best maintained stations do not look as good as what you showed for Guiyang. Unfortunately, the subway situation in NYC continues to decline, and noone, not the politicians, not the subway management, not the community activists, not the corporate leadership, not the non-profit/religious organisations, not even the ordinary people of NYC, have any idea how to stop the decline. The longer a person lives in New York, the more you become de-sensitised to the subway environment. Since you have no choice but to use it regularly (as it still is by far the fastest way to get around the city), you end up simply learning to live with it.

For a while it was safer in the early 2000, now since Deblasio was mayor everything went downhill. That's what happens when you are too soft on crime and allow people to live on streets and turn a blind eye on drugs. He failed. I hope Adams does better but I am very doubtful. for the tax new yorkers pay to live here, we deserve better than this bullshit. MTA hiking up their price for each ride every 5-10 years ain't helping either.

Besides, so far as I know, the country told their people to pay the highest tax is the America, and I guess most of them were put into military service, but not something that may benefit their people. I think the expansive small flat you are talking about is the sub-divided flat in Hong Kong, where poor people have to pay 714 US dollars per month for a 10-20 fits. Bth, this is where most people are demanding the type of “democracy” in the America, and where brainwashed protesters have been holding rallies and rebellions two years ago which has caused a great plummet in the economic growth in Hong Kong, just because they are asking for the “freedom” that they have never be deprived of.
