In Bengal , in Bengali culture we like to Empower our sisters , daughters . Here even the fathers call their daughters MAa (mother), its a land of Godesses , Shakti. Hence you would often find them outspoken, confident and more educated in general compared to few other northern states and thus might have a different view point . But im a proud Bengali and i love it. Thank you for posting this fun video , i really enjoyed it . ♥♥♥

About the shoe thing all North indians r complaining about,
The Chalas r built on a stage above the ground level for this very reason. Pandal in bengali refers to the whole area of the whole structure, so when she said u can enter the pandal she only meant the structure, not the stage of protima.
During veneration and worshipping of the goddess u open ur shoes.

But we should know one thing that our customs and culture are people and community oriented.
Changes take place with the will of the people, not against them.
Shastrarth - debates took place to convince ones point and if the society finds it reasonable they will accept it.
But this had some cons to it too, like the time when everyone went into slumber mode with the advent of Mahatma buddh/Sidharth's Preaching. We were attacked constantly from our western borders, we were plundered again and again. All this when everyone Inland was talking about futility of wars. They forgot to defend themselves and their own people.
The Southern and Eastern kingdoms had it easy, since the western ones acted like a shield, their naivety to western euroasian cultures led them to accept and receive their naval missions with open arms and friendliness. Wish they knew that the concept of "Guest as a God" had some limitations when it comes to other cultures.

I’d like to politely request people not to insult my friend.
She kindly offered to show me around Kolkata at no cost just because she loves the city and loves the Durga Puja festival and wanted to be hospitable to me as a guest here.
It’s not fair or appropriate for people to criticise her here in the comment section, it takes a lot of courage to be on camera and make content that is interesting and fun while it takes very little effort to tear someone down in the comment section.
So, please, don’t be mean, if you don’t have anything kind or constructive to say, please keep the hate comments to yourself, she deserves to be applauded for having the courage to be on camera, not treated badly.

1- Durga puja in west bengal has been added into UNESCO world Heritage site. Many artisans from around the world come to work on pandals.
2-Also different parts of india celebrate diwali in different ways but the it is on same day.
3- Also, hindus are not all vegetarian but the meat consumption in hindus are the least that's for sure. And approximately 30%hindus are vegetarian.
4-different places have different variations of stories that they can explain to you in navratri but the core idea remains the same. So, if you trap yourself in thise variations you will lose the core essence or knowledge or learning that comes from it. So, listen these different stories as they all teach something one or other.
As Hinduism is the oldest religion hence not possible for anybody to know it all as we don't have 1 or 2 books, hinduism is too deap and too dynamic. It is not static , it evolves hence you will hear different interpretations for same story.

Some indian fellas don't even know the meaning of gold digger. Calling out a girl a gold digger even without knowing the character is wrong. All extrovert girls aren't gold digger. If a girl is overfriendly or talkative doesn't mean she is a gold digger. She respectfully wore a saree and is helping a guy who is unaware of such places so what's a big deal? Is helping someone and showing different pandal a crime? For the shoes as others already said when it's a ground it's okay to wear shoes since that is not a temple it's just pandal. When you want to touch god definitely we need to take the shoes off . Even in navratri people play garba with their shoes on and there we have lord durga too but again if you want to visit and take blessings of god we need to take shoes off. Common sense is no more common.Stop critizing yall....

Okay so imma keep it very simple
1)Saraswati and Laxmi r not Durga's daughters, but they accompany her as surrogate daughter. This symbolizes that Devi or the feminine divine is the mother of all gods and demons in the cosmos. Durga is one of the material forms of the Devi.
    2) in the second pandal, Durga is represented with baby Krishna. The idol in itself is a reference to a 19th century painting called "Deb gostha" which portrays Durga along with multiple deities and krishna. It represents the image of Yogmaya, the benevolent aspect of Goddess Durga as per bhagavata purana. Yogmaya assisted Vishnu in during his birth human avatar form: Krishna. Krishna was born on Ashthami, the 8th day of Durga puja, after Devi replaced Krishna with her own infant avatar, & when tyrant king Kamsa tried to kill the infant thinking it was Krishna, she took the form of Durga to impede his evil act.

Pujo is like that. It’s much more personal that religious . Although it has it’s own religious obligations but for the general masses it’s a time of pure joy. It’s a time where people have fun, where romance buds, people flirt, catch up with friends, gobble food and unapologetically be themselves. That’s the essence of pujo in Bengal.

So story goes like this ki Radha ji jo Shri Krishna ki patrani thi shaadi hone ke baad raat ko Shri Krishna ji se milne jaaya karti thi or ve dono aapase nritya kiya karte the. To ek baar Radha ji ke pati ko shak hua ki radha raat me jaati kaha hai to vo radha ka peecha karne lage. Raadha roj ki tarah krishna ji se milne gayi lekin krishna ji ko pata tha ki radha ke pati ubke peeche aa rahe hain. Radha ke pati asal me Maa kaali ke bhakt the to ye baat jaankar shri krishna jab radha ji se mile to unhone maa kaali ka roop grahan kar liya pr ye dekh kar radha ke pati khush ho gaye ki unki patni ko saakshat maa kali ke darshan hote hain.
To ye ek symoblic story hai don't take it literally. Ye darshata hai ki Krishna or maa Kaali alag alag nahi balki ek hi hain bas unke roop alag hai.

I really liked Phil and was hoping he would see the Durga puja and the diversity and fervor with which it’s celebrated in Calcutta surpassing religion but ended up with a girl explaining puppy love 😢 . Sadly the purpose of this channel as he had explained was to unite people which is so well represented in Durga puja was lost due to inadequate knowledge of a fellow Calcuttan

In different ways money is circulated through the hands of all the sections of the society as clothes, sweets, flowers, decorating materials, artists, pot makers etc etc. Then get together enjoyment etc etc. According to Upanishads or "Adwaitham" only one God, that is "Brahman" which is our own conscious. @@philbland A human body is made of crores of atoms and within the body we have mind, ego, intelligent and conscious. The structure of Solar system is exactly same as that of an atom. The central Sun is self illuminating. In a similar way the central nucleus of the atom also has self illuminating power since it has mass. (E=mc2). That self illuminating light is same in all and everywhere. Since it is not an entity we cannot see it. We have to "experience" that light. Once that is realized, we can understand that , that light is same in all living and non living things. So that light or Brahman is all pervading and is called as Mahavishnu. That light cannot be seen through our external eyes. We have to experience that with our inward eyes. "Lord Siva " he is "Adi Yogi" or first Yogi who taught this to the world through Yoga.
Since Brahman is energy, after our death, that energy should reappear in some other way because energy can neither be created nor he destroyed. So all the Indic philosophies like, Hinduism, Budhism and Jainism belive in rebirth. No heaven or hell concept.
It is written in vedas that there are 12 Adithyas ( Suns) and a number of planets and satellites associated with all these and it is imagined that a "Virad Purusha" or Mahavishnu is sleeping in that infinite cosmic ocean and his mind and intelligent "Lord Brahma " created this Universe. The meaning of the word "Brahma" is ever expanding.
This earth is just a dust particle in that cosmic ocean.
In Kerala, Thiru-anantha - puram, you can visit "Sree Anantha Padmanahha swamy temple " . The idol is Lord Mahavishnu who is lying in the infinite cosmic ocean with lord Brahma associated with him.

Bagwat Gita by lord Krishna is only book which all scientist around world appreciated . It has all your answers not relegious but only about self . Please do learn about Krishna Phil. Krishna and Ram are avatar of lord Vishnu which showed way to humanity. Righteousness, food to eat , importance of exercise, y to respect all . Above all meaning of life . Here are just few teaching from starting chapter. There is lot more Phil u will be really shocked
There are three gates to this self-destructive hell: lust, anger, and greed. Renounce these three..!!
Calmness, gentleness, silence, self-restraint, and purity: these are the disciplines of the mind..!!
The truly wise mourn neither for those who are living, nor for those who have passed away.
One who sees inaction in action, and action in inaction, is intelligent among men..!!
When a man dwells on the pleasure of sense, attraction for them arises in him. From attraction arises desire, the lust of possession, and this leads to passion, to anger. From passion comes confusion of mind, then loss of remembrance, the forgetting of duty. From this loss comes the ruin of reason, and the ruin of reason leads man to destruction..!!
You have a right to perform your prescribed duties, but you are not entitled to the fruits of your actions..!!
Through selfless service, you will always be fruitful and find the fulfillment of your desires.
Phil I hope u will read this comment 🙏

I'm not associating that to how women are treated, rapes, and what-not of present day since that still happens(regardless of country). Men that pray to Durga ma and have their profile pics as ma Durga and then force sex on women. Sadly, I've come across men like that in my life.
