For Skar King, they did mention in the story, that they're searching for the portals to go to Surface world. When godzilla in their first fight sent them to this subterrain (which they show in text) witht a huge cliffs, I Assume he's building a way to reach the portals. Only thing was after all the absorbtion to turn pink, i do not know if it made any difference. Bernie made very small impact, He understood the Iwi people to help create Anti Gravity in the climax.
