A brief thoughts video and a bit of an info dump for the game after finishing it multiple times. We had a great time with the game, obviously not perfect but The story itself was something else for us personally. For anyone new who is looking for a lot of hours from this game: The story mode is Short, around 10 to 12 hours if you're taking things in.
Freeride includes Free ride extreme. Which offers a few hours of really fun missions, shootouts, and time trials that aren't associated with the story mode. They unlock outfits, gold weapons, and cars etc.
Classic settings has been altered a little since I played first. Just played it today again, and It's much easier with time trials offering more time not sure if they've reacted to feedback and made it easier. But Make sure to play without any aim assist if you want a decent challenge. Full aim assist makes any difficulty easy it has to be said. We hope you guys enjoy it! For those who are passing on it, we always got the original that never changes so appreciate that new people get to experience this story. Later guys it's been fun covering the game and we'll catch you in the next one! Let the good times roll! - Martin & Taylor
I love three slots of gun because they're is less gun in you a pistol a Tommy gun and shot gun 3 or 6 granit and 3 or 6 cocktail bomb and a knife that's enough for Tommy
Hangar 13 working next game new mafia iv after mafia defitivine edition?
@@nickjones4851 I don't think mafia 4 is coming near 2025 if they do before that the game will be like disaster as mafia 3 and you assassin's creed unity you what I am talking about. Peace
@Thor V 'sad Italian theme plays' sorry bro
for sure it does! Man that is the best mobster game, period. Shit tons to do beside the main story.

sara and patrick Jesus was one of the biggest fans of the mafia series. He’s on the fence whether he likes Tommy more than Vito. We just discussed this last night when I was praying before bed.
JTRPG lmao
sara and patrick but now I’m found thanks to the amazing grace of hangar 13.
sara and patrick yo Jesus told me to tell you : stop being so relentless it’s not that serious...
The Godfather needs,NEEDS!,TO BE REMADE!
Scarface also😳
Nar the godfather 2 😤🙏
Both godfathers please 😢
@@EternalNightingale Yea I really wouldn't mind. SCARFACE remake shoot I would be happier Mafia 1 is great tho
@Skinniboi Dust same but I watch gf1 on yt and it looks good
The Bertone's missions werent bugged, u just didn't look around enough to find the cars, there are even clues to make u find them :P
Game needs a currency, there's no shops or money telling how much u have or changing costume *Just stating a downfall*
True but this is just a modern touch up on the og game. I'm sure mafia 4 will have all that. I hope lol
@paytoncntrll7 Mafia II practically showcased that by giving you $10 for moving boxes or gives you over $100 for whacking a guy.
I don't mind it. There are plenty of other sandbox crime simulators where you can do a bunch of stuff. I think Mafia is more story-driven and the city is more like a detailed set instead of an interactive world.
And they can always do it different in the next game. But for this particular game, I think it was the right choice to keep the sandbox stuff minimal.
There are elements that feel unfinished or rushed. Some of Tommy's animations feel like placeholders. The "Simulation" difficulty for police response doesn't seem to do anything. I can blow stop signs (There are no Red Lights) and drive on the wrong side of the road at top speed and the cops ignore me.
I was wondering about the red lights, I've only seen a couple around, I thought it might be because it's the 1930s and they're still developing stop lights.. But I'm no historian 😂⛔
@@memberberries9782 Read somewhere that is the case, and they only started really putting stop lights at end of the decade [don't think its shown in remake, which is still fine i guess, lower city priority or something]
Play on classic mode and they'll be on you for anything
Alright here's the truth: Tommy is an amazing guy
Tommy is the man. Here is the truth.. Sarah is bae
"He's a rat ! You know it and i know it !"
"Mr Angelo?"
Yes....

Christopher Gibson9mm an amazing rat at that
finally you mentioned that the Remake is not ahead of it's time in anyway compared to the Original, that's my main disappointment but I guess I should be glad it's not a horrible Remake.
Aw trust me I was never gonna say it's ahead of it's time haha
He said the original was ahead of it's time. Which it was. I still own my PS2 copy and I'm loving the Remake 🙂
I was 15 when the original came out, the fact that i can play it again so many years later in a remake is mind blowing!
Or you could play the original version still.Lol.
9:21 Map from the original game! :D
Yep! :)
Poor paulie, all he wanted was out, and out he got :(
2:39 you're not the only one, brother. When I finished the original Mafia i was like "oh, no. Tommy died. That's sad". But now i was pretty "messed" up.
There are major storyline differences. Key events happen differently. Michelle was Sarah's best friend, not Sam's girl. The truck had diamonds in it originally and Sam didn't know about them in the original. There were many plot twists in the original that the definitive edition just took away. The story has a lot of effect, but not as much as in the original.
To be honest: I liked the change with the drugs more. Made Salieri even more shadier. And i liked Sams involvement with Michelle, because it gave the story a little bit more depth. And shows what a scumbag he is at the end, when he gives you the blame for not killing her.
@@mrblonde609 i agree
You say this but if you ask me I think it's way better this way because the don went against his own rules about cursing and selling dope. I honestly wish that Tommy, sam and Paulie would have called him out on that but ig not.
I pre-ordered it on Ps4 and I'm having a very good experience with it. I'm currently on chapter 4
Edit: I just beat the game, and... Wow. I never played the original, but I love this game
Also, does anyone know when you unlock the wardrobe during the story? I wanna see how some other outfits look in cutscenes
Can you just ride wherever you want like GTA and do stories as you like, or is it just the linear missions? What I mean is, in between missions, can you drive freely, or are you always in a mission? Going from one mission to the next
@@ToploadedGaming it's linear and you just go mission to misson
Devin 69
Thanks, yea, unfortunately I bought it and found out the hard way. Don’t care fir this. Was hoping for something on par with ghost of tsushima and RDR2, as far as open world. The story is great, but there is a lot wrong with this for me.
I’ve played all mafia games. Including the original mafia 1. And i must say. This one is by far the best
They should expand the game more big with extra misson some mystery
why stuff it with clutter it doesn't need?
Mean if they do some decetive stuff or some is tractor in their family I mean they should give Frank a more screen time and how saliria is using his man to to kill Paul and Tommy the mystery like this or some many mystery there they should expand that.
Damn i wanted to ride the train and the tram,
Anyways still looking good for me
I can't wait to play this when it releases tomorrow. 👍
We hope you enjoy it the story is great. Free ride is hilarious fun too!

Seriously underrated channel
Guys on CZcams don't like Mafia o'what
Yeah that’s because those guys on CZcams only like futuristic space wars that is fast paced and no campaign or story just online
I am a super competitive multiplayer gamer
I am nowhere near pros but still I am a good player
But bro I have always been playing campaign games from 2007 when I was a year old
They just have that thrill that multiplayer doesn't have and don't even get me started on stupid fortnite and pubg
People mostly like and praise GTA and search for GTA like games. I personaly rather choose Mafia, it's less of a satire and has more serious stories. Red dead 1 and 2 are masterpieces too! I also enjoy gta games, but don't find them that appealing. Even less with that online mode...
A bit disappointed about the trams and the trains - since they have clearly defined tracks and routes I don't see any reason as to why we can't ride them. Also not having the ability to swim is another cop-out. Will we at least be able to access some buildings in free ride (e.g. art gallery, motel, hotel etc.)? The world looks too good to be this empty
@@hanselvogis7301 it was a thing in original. That's cannot be a reason since this is remake
You can't ride them? Super disappointing
Because it's the Hangar 13 way. Their worlds aren't alive as long as they keep building their games on the Mafia 3 engine. Expect more of the same if they ever release Mafia 4.
Maybe they will add it in an update. But tbh the world does feel way more alive and breathing compared to mafia 3.
this is why mods exist, gta 5 had the same prob,interiors..
Kinda sad that the main character now doesn’t die when the car without roof flips over.
He does in the race though.
That surprised me when I played Mafia 2 again lol
Vin diesel would be pleased😭😂 Loved that
Has anyone noticed that Tommy's cigarette card looks more like the original Tommy
I wish they kept the cars outside so you can see all of them, like in the original, and you can put the car in the garage behind the bar and the guy with the studer will customize the car for you
Why did you hit me whit that nostalgic punch with opening song...
can you change the crosshairs style to a simple dot or do you have to deal with this huge crosshairs? ..
This was a great review that explained everything I needed to know. Good work!
That intro was absolutely beautiful
I love the beginning of the video with the song
Welcome back Martin 💪
I love the review, great description of what is about
A long time coming
we need a bigger MAP and more things to do when tom died they should've started new character where we can do free roam with
New character like who? At the end of the story all of the main characters are either dead or in jail. Tom also dies in Empire bay during Mafia 2's timeline. So this wouldn't really work
@@camrudd56 i think he thinks this gta
Any chance of you guys make a guide for the collectibles?
We will have some guides tomorrow! Not sure about the collectibles we have footage of them all so we can put that together if it's needed. I'll say they're not too difficult. We have a guide for free ride cars and outfits coming I'm pretty sure Taylor is working on those!
Great video, but a correction to be made; There ARE stop lights, but they are very rare for whatever reason, there's one in North Park right outside the Museum of History near the Terranova Bridge
Great vid, can you save the game in free ride and continue the progress when you go back to it? Cheers
You can't manually save it auto saves frequently though. If you do a job in free ride it saves. Going to the bar, it'll actually let you fast travel to any job you've already completed if you want to redo it. If you let's say quit during a job and turn off for the day. Entering free roam again the next time you play it should spawn you right beside that job! Hope that helps!
@@TripleADigest yeah that's great news, kinda like how Mafia 3's main story only autosaved and not Manuel saved, thanks!
Just finished the game. It was a great journey to live through once again.
There were some minor things regarding missions and gameplay that I didn't like. But in general I loved the experience.
What I really, really loved was that they really fleshed out the characters. Sure, they were changed a bit, but now it felt more complete story.
And the ending! The last cutscene. It was phenomenal.
The original always felt to me like Tommy had forgotten everything he learned in the Family. If you live the life, you shouldn't look shocked when you see the lupara, you should know what it means and that the life might always catch up with you... And that was done spot on in the remake.
I can't give the remake 10/10, even if I'd really love to. But this one gets a solid 9 in my books.
Mafia 1 is one of my first gaming memories. This is so exiting
My copy arrived today - a day early. I cannot wait to play it and re-live the story. The original was one of the best games I ever played. Thank you for keeping us up to date man! I really hope this re-make of the original will pave the way for a new chapter in the Mafia series.
Enjoy!
is it possible to put those little missed details from Mafia 1 + 2 in the game with an update?
11:25, the cars only spawn in when all postcards are collected
Something I want to know is why hanger 13 broke mafia 2 and released it. On the old systems I never had any crashes and only a couple of bugs. On the rerelease it crashes regularly, missions break, npcs break, only half the dlc packs will load upon every install, I keep falling through the world while in the tunnels, supercharger installs crash the game, massive frame drops in gunfights, and worst of all too many people have shotguns and become bulletspongey on the hard mode. They put all their time into the remake of the first, and probably about less than three weeks to port the ten year old game.
I vividly remember playing this game back in the day, it was a master piece! The new updated game looks amazing! I wish I could afford getting tomorrow but I'll have to wait for a sale. Enjoy playing lads!
No harm in picking it up on sale! Hope you enjoy it for yourself when you get to play it!
Are free ride shootout missions unlimited?
I'm playing right now. Its friggin great!
Glad you're enjoying it! The music and the feelz
ill get the game when its on sale
So do i have to complete the story amd then restart in order to get all the outfits availeble from the beginning?
I don't know what he is experiencing, but outfits for be were available from the start
The only thing I would’ve liked is a bit more attention to detail and a gunplay system that is unique the game itself, rather then a carbon copy from mafia 3
Gunplay isn’t terrible, but I think could definitely be a bit better. I remember Mafia 3’s being a tad bit smoother, but maybe I’m just tripping.
liquid sword i think it was too easy, gun play didnt have the weight it did in previous games and enemy AI was pretty awful, also every gun sounded like a toy, i just beat definitive edition and this was my only complaint though, otherwise the game is pretty good.
Your Dad I hated that the enemies were bullet sponges and didn’t show any signs of being wounded, but I didn’t really consider that “gunplay” when I made my comment. But I agree.
Your Dad I agree, the controls weren’t terrible, but it didn’t really matter since the AI were bullet sponges. And it didn’t ruin the game for me personally, but I can definitely see why it would for someone else since the shootouts were a big part of the game.
I finished in 10 hours and im a og mafia fan. there are couple of things which really bothered me while playing it.
First thing is; after completing a mission, game goes to a cutscene instead of driving back to Salieri's bar. I was expecting them to make a better experience for those moments. they wasted a great opportunity. For example after driving the race car back to track, in the og game you can take a tour in the city, see the homeless people trying to get warm near fire barrels with one or two dogs around, can go and check if lucas has any new misions, steal some new cars to add to the garage etc.
Secondly, in the og game, first you see old cars around. as the time goes by, new cars are unlocked and when a new one unlocks, Ralfie teaches us to how to unlock them before starting a new mission. you can feel the time has passed. even to both games have the same number of cars (50-51) new one feels like there are 15 drivable cars in the game whereas the og one feels lie there are 50.
about the mission structure; i didnt like the lucky bastard chapter. they skipped the train crash part with a cutscene. og game has a much better narrative on that mission. Also we had freedom in the docks with usable cars and etc. new one has a totally linear level design where you cant go anywhere.
In the omerta mission, og game, you can see the feeling in the eyes of tommy when we let frank go with his family. specially when frank's little daughter tells "goodbye mister" to us showing that she is not aware whats happening which makes us feel good about letting frank go. that feeling was totally lost in the new one. it was a soulless mission.
Basically everything started to falling apart after church shootout. Feels like rushed. some content was obviously taken out from the game. I dont know if they run out of money or time or simply had problems due to corona. but mostly i am disappointed with the game.
Character movement is the exact same with mafia 3's movement. like totally the same. most of the time you can not get of uf the cover fast enough because you need to press "down" the get out otherwise you'll be dead in a second. when you do get out of the cover by pressing "down" tommy moves out in the open instead of just leaving the cover crouching and staying out of sight.
Its sad that there is no red lights or proper police presence. driving was different of GTA because of the police and traffic rules. now its design to go to the mission as quick as possible. it almost feels like developers didnt want us to spend time while driving in the city
by the way. played the whole game on classic difficulty. if they are planning the add dlc as "Sam's story" or "Paulie's story" as they did with mafia 2 then it is okay to have this empty soulless base game. otherwise Its just a game to finish in a rainy weekend when it rains and you feel too lazy to go outside. but all in all, game is perfect for new generation games who born in 2000's, yet kinda boring for 1990's kids.
Its like mafia story dlc to mafia 3 basically
Well, to be honest this is quite good for what I was expecting! I'll really miss the tram and train, tho. Those were great in the original and having them present but not usable will feel weird, specially since I used to ride them to escape the police. One can only hope modders or future parches will bring them back tho
Yeah modders will be all over that!
Wait, you can use public transport to escape police?
...thank you for information, it will be useful sometime in the future!
I hope they bring updates to the game
Good and Fair review.
It wasn't the 2002 experience, but god damn it's good and refreshing remake.
how did you change outfit in story mode? i went there in my story mode run and it wouldn't let me change
You can’t
@@Angel-xt9md damn I wish you could, it's cool you can when you go back and do it when selecting chapter but it would be nice to have the feature in the main story as well like as you unlock them you can wear them
6:33 i feel you mate
Any golf clubs?
I hope that this game sells well, and that hanger 13 learns from mafia 3 mistakes (it was a big let down for me) and I hope they get the opportunity to breath life back into the mafia series. Maybe a linear time line but back in empire bay, taking place in the scenarios we were hearing about on the radio.
I really liked it BUT, I did come acr1a few game breaking bugs like the screen going black during cutscenes, the audio dropping out then coming back super loud, and a few smaller ones. All in all still really enjoyed it though.
great video guys
Appreciate you!
Can’t wait to play this tomorrow night after work! I think for the east coast of the us I think it’s available to install tonight
Enjoy it's a great compact story anyway. Hope you run into minimal issues!
TripleADigest i hope so too! I remember growing up playing the original and loved it, so I’m so excited to have a great blast from the past!
Loving it so far
This game is fun. I’m on Chapter 4 and I’ve spent 2 hours on the Free Ride mode. I didn’t play the original I’ve only played 3 and 2 and this remake version is coming close to being my favorite
I cannot wait for midnight to get into this Prohibition goodness!!!
Almost there you got this!
I give the mafia 3 outfit system a 3/10 and the mafia 2 outfit system a 8/10
Is mission playthrough time same or less than mafia 2.. if its same it's ok then.
Yeah it's about the same. Around 11 hours for me and I was on classic settings. If you drive straight from mission to mission and don't explore mission areas often it'll be shorter.
@@TripleADigest what did u like more, mafia 2 or mafia defnitive edition?
I have been playing the remake over the weekend, reached the Omerta mission. my nitpicking on this would be, facial animations while its still good, but needs a little more polish to look great, the driving in this game is pretty fun on simulation but they made it more arcade-ish compared to original and I think buffed up the car engines overall.
Also, The new voice acting is super amazing, they did a fantastic job capturing the setting and the whole "italian amercian" accents.
I was with you until you said the accents the voice acting was horrible apart from the irish police officer the rest sound nothing like italian Americans
Thanks for this break down
Damnnn cant wait. Gonna buy it tommorow for 25€!
Great video
Thank you kindly!
I just finished playing the story last night. I'm a big fan of the original and I gotta say I give this remake a 8/10. They got big points for the shear fact of doing the the remake. But also the ge was pretty good. Wish the mission were a little more similar to the original but still they did a good job. Oneain thing I gotta say is the vehicle handling is very much improved. I just loved drifting around every turn with almost any vehicle. That was one of the more fun things to do.
Tommy Angelo said in his testimony that he became a criminal because he didn't wanna be a victim. He damn sure wasn't lying about that. He tried to move on after that night. But then he was forced into it when Morello's boys ambushed him then chased him. They wasn't about to quit till they killed him so he ran to Salieri's for protection then proved that he could handle himself good. And yeah the high life & the money seduced him as well but it was more that he didn't wanna die a two bit cabbie so he eventually became a three bit gangster. I think in his mind he thought "Damn, I was a cabbie. Met Sam & Paulie, helped them. Morello's boys tried to kill me. I needed protection. Joined the Family, & i became my own protection. I really didn't think much about anything after that. 8 years just flew by.". Sometimes that happens.
I really wish they would try to go for the original 'suit armory' instead of the shitty two-weapon rule...Oh well xD
Yea I don't care about realistic when it comes to the guns in this, I miss being able to carry like 15 guns in Mafia 2.
Bro this looks amazing !!!! Omg hopefully on free ride mode we can do more in there like ride the train trams and etc so I love what they have done.
Yeah free ride you have jobs, garages, fast travel and things like that. You'll get a decent amount of hours from free ride! I hope you enjoy the game for yourself, has it's issues beware but the story is a real highlight!
TripleADigest i Believe it I’m so excited thank you guys for all you’ve done you’ve been covering this game for a good min and well done.
@@TripleADigest jobs, Can you explain please?
I’m enjoying the game but the checkpoints in missions are terrible. On one I spawned into enemy gunfire without cover and now I’m stuck trying to shoot the armoured apc turret on half vehicle health, about 10% Tommy health and on classic difficulty
same doing on classic had to turn on auto aim
12:03 getting a ticket for running through red light is in the remake - but the police needs to see you do that first
You didn't mention the missing magical Hangar13 mirrors from the bathrooms.. they still can't make them right so they didn't even put them on the walls :'D But at least they managed to include trams not like in Mafia 3 (still not rideable though)
Man you’re the best
but characters still have magic pockets, and no option to turn off HUDs, and still few destructible environments...?
Main issue I have is that thee original still remains the definitive version despite the title of the remake. They are completely different games despite having the same story, and the 'toy city' and simulation aspects of the original are totally missing from MDE. You could cause outlandish chaos in the original whenever you chose to and it wasn't off limits. MDE really forces you to adhere to the play-style it's chosen for the game to have and the entire experience is about moving forward with the story. I feel like the original gave a lot more freedom and had unique feel that is totally missing from MDE.
I loved the remake, although it can never replace the original Mafia. But i didn't really feel Paulie's character that much. He didn't seem like the hothead that he was in the original game. I guess the voice just didn't fit the character that well in my opinion. Sam's was pretty good, quiet and reserved, just like the original. But I would totally recommend anyone buy this game if they're a fan of the original, even just for the expanded storyline which could give you your own thoughts of what happened in the original game. Just for Relaxation sort of surprised me though....and I bet anyone else who is very familiar with the original will be surprised with the way the story turns.
Can’t wait to play this at 6
Enjoy! Hope you have a good experience with it let us know when you get finished with it. Be interested to hear your thoughts!
Don't know why they took money out of the game. You play a member of the mafia. Their sole goal was to make money. Why not have a earning and buying system in the game just like Mafia 2? You could buy guns, clothes, cars, food, property, women, drugs, and literally anything else you could think of in my ideal version or Mafia. Poor decision to not include something that would have made it so much better.
To be fair though, there was no money in Mafia 1 (Original) except in Free Ride.
I think it would be really cool if they try to make a online for this game.
I haven't gotten the game yet and I already know that the radio host will be my favorite character.
The radio host is great shout out to that guy
the only bad thing about this game is that it’s short... played on classic mode, replayed so many missions cause I just kept dying and completed the story in 11 hours. I was thinking of starting a new playthrough but I’ve already played at the hardest difficulty...
Did anyone else skip to the timestamp of 13:48 to see if there are any bugs cause it's hangar 13 we're talking about 😂
haha that's understandable! I put timestamps there to answer the bugs questions for people best I can! Great story although short and free ride is fun but for sure know it's not a perfect release.
@@TripleADigest Yep buddy those timestamps really do help👍btw nice video
Hangar 13 should change it name coz they are going to fail

@Austin Batton it was remastered, not remade. Also I dont really think it's old enough to be fully remade
let me guess, they brought back the light house from the original in which you can take a look and see every available mission that you can do in free mode.
I'll never tell!
Actually I am watching a play throygh with my favorite walk-througher: TheRadBrad.
TAD, you have 0 dislikes, ayy! Also, I’m thinking about buying it after release, Can someone tell me if there’s gonna be a physical copy of it for PS4?
Haha that won't last long the haters will be waking up soon! Waiting until a sale isn't a bad idea for this game. :)
yes ..
I'm only 37 secs in and I can tell I'm gonna love this game
Edit: I never played the original coz I was too young but I cnt wait to play this one and yes I'm putting the classic settings on so I can find out what this infamous race is about, also so its more like the original game even tho I wouldn't know the difference
Is the driving identical to mafia 3 or better??
It's a little better. More weight to the vehicles. They feel slow at the beginning of the game and you unlock faster cars as you play like the original which is nice.
TripleADigest that sounds great because i didn't like the driving that much in mafia 3 and liked it better in 2. I thought they'd just copy paste the driving mechanics like they did with mafia 3's combat. Good to hear
Iam Just under half way through the story played the original mafia & Mafia 2 & 3 the problem with this mafia is the shooting I've got settings on regular & iam assist on but does not lock on at all even wene i put it on hard lock. It plays almost exactly how mafia3 plays but in 3 i had the same problems, but in mafia1 all you see wene you aim is Tommy's arm. @least with Lincoln in mafia3 "you see his how he shoots & runs outa cover shooting a lot better. The driving is Nice though & really feels like the cars of that era. Feels strange wene thay give you a 70s Mustang to drive wene checking ya cars in garage. Though still love MAFIA it still suffers from the same bugs that was in Mafia3 Still Love Mafia1 though Mafia2 is my favourite & has proper lock on wene shooting. & those glossy playboy magazines. & the level you Actually see Vito getting made. If you change clothes before the meeting otherwise thay tell you to wait outside. Still get made but you don't see Vito getting made, Something like metal gear Solid would do, & clever. Hope thay can patch Mafia1 as feels broken & no legend wene i click on the map.
No Minor Swing by Django?!?! Literally unplayable.
I know right
0/10 worst game of the year 😡
I wish there was a extreme freeride mode too
Freeride extreme is included in free ride.
@@TripleADigest it is? thanks for letting me know

The most important question here....
Does Tommy's daughter and Sarah's Daughter has a name now?!?!?! Or she's "My Little Girl" and "My Daughter" again?
Do you really want me to spoil it? I think everyone should experience that for themselves. As I said the ending has been extended :)
The Police AI is pretty dumb, but sometimes funny. Once I start shooting people on the street. I did get 4-5 stars for killing cops and believe or not, but I run away from the chase by hiding inside of the telephone booth with like 10+ fully armed cops around. Literally in the last second before one of them found me they call off the chase.
