Fans at least got one last great promo out of Flair with that pipebomb in 1998.

Flair wasn't professional? I don't know. He was taking home less money than the other big stars. He seemed happy to do whatever was asked of him. Yes, he skipped out on some events -- but there's a big difference between that and Savage not wanting to work Starrcade to buttress Hogan's numbers, and then demand to be in the ME (which resulted in a nothing match with Luger). That's unprofessional. And yet Bischoff, Schiavone and Conrad call him the ultimate professional. WTF? The Flair situation seemed manageable, but Bischoff didn't care to manage it.

The issue was probably less that he was putting his foot down on Ric by itself as much as putting his foot down on Ric when others were getting away with things. Or at least that being the perception of how things were being handled. If it was consistent treatment there would probably be less drama about it than it seemingly being pick and choose of who you hold firm to versus who gets by with some stuff.

Eric Bischoff was not a Jim Herd! He was huge during the "Attitude Era." I love me some Bischoff and Flair! Both were great promo cutters! WCW NWO Monday Night Nitro beat Raw 83 weeks in a row or 84 wks-n-a-row in a row!!! You can't knock the guy. Everyone has an opinion. Bischoff got ratings for WCW. A great commentator as well. Flair in the 80s into the early 90s was at his peak. Whooooo! Greatest Wrestler of all time.

wouldnt have matterd if he was childhood best buds with the locker room,he was still office and they were still the boyz,he was never one of them nor would he ever be until he became solely talent himself again! soon as you take that office spot your outside looking in

Even then probably doesn’t ever get treated as one of the boys because even in a stage of having no power everybody who once worked for you when you did have that power will always see you in the light of the experiences they had when you had the power over them. I doubt he ever got seen or treated in a fresh light during his time in WWE as talent by those who worked for him in WCW when he wasn’t around. Fair or not it’s hard for people who worked for you to fully move past however things were at that time to just see you in your current position or at least understand why you may have had to do whatever you did at those times that maybe they felt negatively about. It’s always hard to get people to understand the choices you’re faced with or have to make when you’re in a role like Eric was at the time and how he may have done things he personally didn’t want to do or agreed with because he was in the role he was and had to answer to people above him for the things he did or didn’t do. Most people never fully appreciate those things until they end up in a position where they’re put in that spot and have to make those choices that they personally don’t like but professionally have to do. This was something I experienced in prior jobs where I spent time in non-managerial roles before being elevated to managerial roles where I then had to do that stuff. Before being in those roles I always pushed back and thought whatever decision they made was them being assholes and learned pretty quickly when in a similar spot why those things happened and had to make choices about things that I didn’t want to because I was friends with people I now supervised. It’s the challenge of when you grow into a supervising role versus starting that way. It’s hard managing people you were or are friends with and them not taking things personally and understanding you’re just doing your job.

Honestly I found this whole situation very ironic. Both Eric and Ric had huge egos and refused to do business the right way. I also felt like both guys were overrated too and had a huge part in the death of WCW. Them focusing on this type of crap rather than pushing young talent is precisely why fans started tuning into WWF at the time.

Yeah. Who the hell wanted to see Easy E in a wrestling ring? However, let’s not act like Vince wasn’t starting to bore people by the end of 98 either. I was watching old clips and had no idea that Vince was on TV so much

@@iBmEVanquisher I agree Eric taking up so much TV time did nothing to help WCW build new stars. To be fair Vince did the exact same thing. With the exception back then WWF was making new stars. The nWo dominated most of WCW TV back then and guys like Hogan and Flair always were in the main events when younger talent should've been pushed.

Ric Flair/4 HorseMen, Hogan, Bischoff, Hall/Nash, Sting, Macho got a ton of talent over and had the hours of TV time and millions of WCW fans each week to do it. Everyone was jobbing for the minor players and making them look good while selling millions in merch for themselves.
TBS/TNT + Aol/Time/Warner still wanted to unhitch the WCW money wagon. If WCW had the ad revenue money it could of just bought itself and went private.

Ric is overrated. He was only a regional draw. The Crockett's kissed his ass. Jim Herd and Bischoff didn't play that game with the ego maniac.

It's true that during the Crockett era(late 80s) when they tried to run shows out west, it was a disaster. They should have just stayed in the Southeast for the most part. That's why Jim C. had to sell.
