- In this video I demonstrate wireless FT8 using SDR-Control software (roskosch.de/sdr-control/). I connect to the Icom IC-705 via WLAN and call CQ using the included FT8 tool. Other tools include a LOG, PSK reports, RTTY, PSK, CW Decode, Midi control, Weather FAX, and more. The antenna used is a Chameleon P-Loop Magnetic Loop.

The radio setting on the desk in that frame looks really good.
Thanks for mentioning Access Point. I was wondering if I could use this at a POTA location for FT8. Of course I would be using a portable antenna as well. Do you think that would work?
Hi Dave, you are very welcome. Yes, you could absolutely use this at a POTA location for FT8. Keep in mind you need to have good time control on the laptop for FT8 to function well The IC-705 has built in GPS which will provide perfect timing. It might be worth investigating if there is a way to capitalize on that somehow through the access point connection or if it would have to be manually adjusted. Another option is a cellphone hotspot. I have used mine to synchronize the time and provide internet logging while I am out in the field. 73, John
@@johncooper6894 Thanks, I am going to try SDR control for iOS on my iPad. Not sure if you have seen it but it looks awesome. The same guy that wrote software for Flex Radio to be driven by Mac OS. 73, Dave
Impressive software! I’m about to get a 705…Your mounting setup for the 705 looks very nice and secure. Do you have any links info to where to get this case and/or mounting plate! Thank you, and thanks for sharing. 73,
Hey there! I noticed you have the same issues with choppy modulation via wlan I get with WFview on PC. Lost packets? I tried adjusting the baud speed but it doesn't seem to make a significant difference
Greetings, connecting via wifi does have its own set of issues. There is a registry
Change you can make in windows to eliminate the built in wifi throttling that is on by default to save battery. I haven’t tried it yet myself. Might be worth a try.
@@johncooper6894 Hey, that worked! Kinda' :) The output power is a bit jittery at the top and the ALC is having a workout but I managed to snatch Brazil at the first try with 10W. That's 13k km from my location. I wasn't aware of that setting...
Thanks a lot, de YO4OCM

Will the app run JS8 and Winlink as well?
No, Not this app. There are some solutions for running JS8 and Winlink on a mac. Nothing turnkey that I am aware of
