    Next I cleaned all the corrosion from the board which fixed the issue with turning on.

    I’m old enough to remember those days of the Pokémon Mini. I didn’t own one myself, but what I can tell you is that I actually owned a Pokémon Pikachu 2, a pocket Pikachu that communicated with the old Pokémon Gold and Silver games through the Infrared connection. The watts you earned by walking with your Pocket Pikachu were able to be redeemed for items via the Mystery Gift. I hope that in a future video, you get to restore a Pocket Pikachu of some kind.

      As I started playing the games with Pokemon Blue, can I just say that I resent you calling Pokemon Silver/Gold old! 😅

    • @octolingjen
      @octolingjen Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@Zoso14892 It was never intended to be offensive, so I’m sorry for not saying “original”. However, I think there are worst things that people can choose to use when describing retro games and have done so.
      This is just my personal opinion, but I don’t think “old” as an adjective is really all that bad. It’s like when my boss or other old people take high offense to being called “old” when they are in their 60s and above, as if they feel ashamed of it. Unfortunately, society sometimes corrupts and brainwashes people into thinking that being old, whether it’s an object or tech device that was created in the past, or a human being that’s lived as long as they have, is the worst thing to happen to something or someone.
      If you still feel a resentment towards me, I can’t stop you from feeling that way. Although I think resenting me because of using an adjective that you disagreed with is a bit extreme. I’d rather you resent me for my actions and not my words.

      @Zoso14892 Před 5 měsíci +1

    Don't forget about the trick of soaking the screen adhesive with IPA to loosen it and rocking the plastic frame back and forth to release the screen when dealing with fragile screens also you left quite a bit of corrosion on the PCB you could have got it out with some vinegar. But you have to make sure to get rid of it all otherwise it'll also corrode the copper

    It always brings me happiness to see these videos. They are just the perfect blend of satisfying restoration and on point tongue-in-cheek comedy. I have been going through quite a lot lately, because we just now moved in to our new house after living in a camper for the past 8 months. It’s been a long and nerve racking journey, and I was very close to losing my sanity. But it was these videos that were my refuge. I would just go to the back of the camper, grab my phone, and turn on an Odd Tinkering video, and I would instantly lull myself into a relaxed state. It was like therapy to me. 20yrs ago I worked for a cell phone company that made tiny cell phones. So I can speak somewhat to reason(s), which I would assume could also apply here. 1-Consumers, especially in asia were asking for smaller products, 2-research into miniaturization, to test your own abilities and skill sets and if you actually sell it you can recoup the research cost, 3-respin a product from one region to another, for very little initial financial outlay, 4-Chasing Fads, You might be too young to remember how the world reacted to the Tamagotchi when it was originally released. Everyone tried to capitalize on it, there were even people making $$$$$ offering daycare/babysitting for other people's Tamagotchi's while their owners went to school/work. Everybody wanted a piece of that action, and even if you failed it was worth trying because of the afore mentioned reasons #2 & #3

    I've tried doing a restoration of my NES and now it only works when the tray is up and the A button on both my controllers works intermittently.

      i think retrobrighting the cart would have been more of a hassle than it was worth. he could have heat-gunned the sticker off, but i think with how compact the entire cart is, he may have decided against it for fear of heating up the entire thing's components, perhaps? not sure, but that's my guess

    Honestly, the era this came from. Tamagotchi's and Pokémon were huge. So, Nintendo probably thought they could get some of the Tamagotchi market with a Pokémon console, but missed the mark on the whole pocket e-pet craze that was Tamagotchi's whole point.

      It's kind of funny, because a similar device, the PocketStation, actually had the same processor as the GBA. The GBA color screen and other hardware made much better games possible tho, as the PocketStation was just a simple mini-game console and memory card, kind of like the Pokemon Mini but without cartridges.
      The Pokemon Mini actual processor was much weaker tho, only 4MHz vs 16.78MHz on the GBA/PocketStation.

      @@VanisherXPAnd that is what this was intended to compete with - the Dreamcast VMU and PocketStation type devices. Something you could carry with you for a quick diversion. This though didn't link up to a console as a memory card or interact with the console games.

    I always turn these videos up as loud as possible for the ASMR, but the ad suddenly playing without warning me with a countdown timer was incredibly loud. If not a countdown timer, at least make the ad quieter

      the ad was at the same volume level as the rest of the video lol... why would he make the ad at a lower volume for people playing on normal volume levels? the sponsor would likely have a huge issue with that.

    I own 3 of these in different colors (U.S versions), the purple one is in its original packaging, they use to be fairly cheap, around $40 and I remember finding them being sold all the time. Now they're ultra expensive but they're definitely not rare, more like there's a lot of demand for these.

    Looking into this it was apparently a product released for the grand opening of the Pokemon Center in New York back on November 16th, 2001 and was initally only available for purchase in the Pokemon Center or via it's website. It was released a month later in Japan and much later in March 2002 in Europe. 10 games were released in Japan with 4 of those available in North America and 5 in Europe
