    Are you a DIY person to save money or do you enjoy the building of "Stuff"? Or do you prefer to get your "Stuff" off the Shelf?

    Very clear instructions. Looks very solid and tons less expensive than buying a commercial rack. Thanks n

      Thanks. Always a little less expensive when you put in some of your own elbow grease.

    Great video, Dan! I like that it's expandable for either a 2nd bike or a trailer. Thanks!

      Thanks. With a little elbow grease, you can usually save a bit of money. Yes, sometimes I pull a little trailer behind the bike rack when I'm going camping with my eBike. Handy to be able to have a trailer hitch also while carrying the eBike.

    I built a rack from your original video. But I started with a motorcycle rack I got for $100. My e-bike 80 pounds without the battery and has 4” wide tires. My wife’s is 60 pounds so I needed something hefty. So I extended the motorcycle rack and added another channel for my wife’s bike. I followed all your ideas and it works great.

      Thanks for the comment and for watching. Yes, that's a great idea to start with the motorcycle carrier. eBike are way heavier than regular bicycles and need a heavy-duty carrier. What kind of vehicle do you transport your eBikes with?

      Which is better if I need 2.
      Do I just double all parts.
      It seems like I can still put the tow dolly in 2nd addition? Correct?

    I was going to build this but Harbor Freight has the HAUL-MASTER 400 lb. Receiver-Mount Aluminum Motorcycle Carrier for $170. It's more like 200 lb capacity, their pics show it carrying a dirt bike. Should fit 27.5 inch wheel e-bike well. Comes with a ramp, too.

    • @GreyBeardEBiking
      @GreyBeardEBiking  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Thanks for your comment. Yes, Harbor Freight has some good quality racks. The biggest difference is the Harbor Freight rack relies on keeping the eBike on the rack with straps. If not done correctly or if your tires lose air pressure while in transit, the straps will loosen and the eBike could fall off. The DIY rack has a solid post which will not loosen if the tires lose air pressure. Both are great racks for the money and if mounted properly are a great bang for the buck for an eBike Rack. Do you usually travel long distances with your eBikes on the rack?

      Thanks for your question however I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you asking about the tray or the pivot arms? Here are the specs on both plus all other needed materials. www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/8ar0uivbbah6a2az3xf4p/Bike-rack-parts-List-Updated-8-1-2023.docx?rlkey=zj9hyeqhpqg4am9no9ui41eq0&dl=0

    Hello, GreyBeard! I don't know if you've been asked this before--what bike lock do you use, if any?

    • @GreyBeardEBiking
      @GreyBeardEBiking  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Thanks for watching. Seems eBike "Pirates" can defeat any lock system but I try to make it as difficult as possible for them. I try to bring my eBike inside when I have to leave it. When I have to leave it locked such as when it's on the rack and I have to leave it, I try to leave it in sight to a lot of people and I use a 2-lock system. I use a Kryptonite U-Lock to the rack and a very heavy chain with a heavy disc lock to the rack. The eBike Pirates can still get them but they will be very noticeable, and it will definitely take some time. As I said, I seldom leave my eBikes unattended. Thanks, hope this helps.

    The Maxx Haul ReceiverStep is $5 less on Harbor Freight compared to Amazon but the anti-wobble device is $3 more on Harbor Freight. Do you have a suggestion for making it easier to lift/mount an ebike (~ 68 lbs) on the rack??

    • @GreyBeardEBiking
      @GreyBeardEBiking  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Thanks for the great comment. On my rack and on many "Factory Built" racks, I simply used a 3' piece of aluminum "U Channel" and put a hook on the end of it. It makes a great affordable ramp. Hi, thanks for asking. I'm still in the game of CZcams but I was planning on a move across country, Southern California to Northern Idaho, but some age-related medical issues popped up. in addition, the move took way longer than expected. Still dealing with some of the medical issues but, I plan on being able to get back on the eBike and making some videos at the start of the year 2024. Thanks again for asking.
