    Did Martinez cheat? Did he break any rules? No. He did everything he could do on the field to maximize Argentina’s chances to win the World Cup. I don’t believe he made a fool outta himself. I believe he had a stellar performance and made one of the most important saves in football history

    He didnt need to irritate his opponent, but he needed to take care of his own kickers knowing that Emi would do that. He should have taken the ball passed it to his kickers to ensure Emi doesnt go near them and give them encouragement. As a captain, he didnt do his job well.

      @@messijordang9143 Firstly Argentina won the WC and Messi was a vital part of that team. He was surely their main player and should definitely be in the best XI of any person, even Penaldo fans. Pretty sure if he had the Welsh team they wouldnt have won it though.
      Secondly this was about Lloris and Emi not Messi. Lloris was dissapointing as a captain. Messi did his job as a captain after the Saudi loss by motivating his team. I didnt like the attitude of the.Argentina team but they deserved to win the final and most of the games they played. Kudos to them.
      This post was about Lloris failings not Messi.

    Respectfully, when my own country is on the line and everyone counts on me to guard the goal post, i would do anything in the realm of possibility to win. It doesn't matter if I'm timid, or shy, or introverted. My country's glory sits above my temporary cringe. I respect Lloris to not play dirty, but like Moreno said, save a fricking goal.

    Martinez pushed the limits but nothing he did was illegal. When he got booked he stopped. And it worked. No French fan complaint when Henry's hand against Ireland in 2009 put them in the world cup....

      Put them in the world cup is a bit misleading. It was not like Ireland was winning. France completely ran over Ireland in those extra times at a way I have seldom seen in international football. Of course had that goal not been allowed, it is possible Ireland might have gotten the win. But the tendancy some have to almost claim Ireland would have been in the world cup had the goal not been allowed is simply a falsification of history.

      @@christophermartinez2608 it's become ridiculous the tearing up of the turf where the penalty spot, the exorbitant delay to take a penalty caused by keepers and the overt continuous unsportsmanlike verbal barrage lobbied by keepers if far too much.
      Football despite its competitiveness is a gentleman's game. You get a yellow card if a ball is coming about to be cleared by a defender and you shout 'leave it' or 'mine' or anything impersonating the opposition you HAVE to say your name. If we continue down this line we could argue defenders shouldn't fall for the tricks of attackers. When the ball is taken out of play because of an injury or any interruption of play the team returns the ball to the other team it could be argued they should be able to maintain that advantage???
      It's silly I don't like Lloris as an arsenal fan but he's right and it's part of the reason Martinez was never a long term option for us.

    I respect Hugo lloris, he is one of the most professional players. I agree with Alexandero Moreno also, I have never seen lorries making a save, also when people are criticizing martinez, they do not even know the reason.
    Yes he used some tricks and yes he played with the mind of his opponent, but then what about Sergio Ramos, and what about forwards when they try to fake a dive to get a penalty is that not cheating?

      I mean people do go on about diving forwards look at neymar and for Ramos, a lot of people criticize him for some of the stupid things he’s done. The difference is that those players in theory are world class in clubs that are actually respect, it’s different to Martinez who comes back to Aston villa of all clubs. Plus it did seem weird that he really targeted Mbappe during the celebrations. Seemed very personal

      Also please do not forget that it was martinez who saved La Albiceleste in two of the most intense matches in copa America and FIFA World Cup.
      Save that he made in the final at the dying minutes was for me the save of the lifetime.

Most of the South American sides cannot compete anymore. Apart from Argentina and Brazil what country would France Spain Germany England be afraid to play ? Ecuador ? Chile ? I think not. The standard is lower to be fair. But also your last point Mbappe literally bullied Martinez on his own bringing his team within penalty kicks of winning back to back world cups.       Argentina has won more PK shootouts at the World Cup than any other team in history. The only PK loss we've *ever* had was when the Germans injured our starting goalkeeper during the game. And Emi Martinez saved THREE pens in the Copa America '21 semifinal. So the French were right to be nervous.

    So Lloris is going to get moralistic about Emi's mind games, but had no problem driving whilst drunk. Nor has he had any problem playing with someone who tried to blackmail a other teammate, or playing with guys who were trafficking underage prostitutes, or even teammates who have been found guilty of domestically abusing their partners. The suggestion that this France team has the moral high ground is laughable.

    Everyone is different. Not everyone is gonna behave the way we want them to behave. That's why we get captivated when we see athletes like Martinez do what they do whether we like them or not, because they go outside the status quo of personalities. Lloris is a stoic professional who does the right thing and a lot of people like that. Martinez is a wild guy who likes to taunt opponents and mess with their heads and alot of people like that too. It's useless to pin them against each other and debate which one is better why dont we just enjoy both of them while we have them

It is a move to get into that players mindset and disorientate them. Having a stoic behavior does little to no good if you want to complicate your competitors head.

      @woedemure if the penalty taker doesn't score, that is entirely their fault and has nothing to do with the keeper. At most, the keeper can guess where the taker is going to go and get lucky, but even if he waits like martinez does until the last second before diving, it is possible to place the penalty so perfectly that it would be impossible to save for any keeper. Also, dibu is given TOO much credit for his antics. That's just how he is because he was raised improperly. He's done those things before and yet players have scored penalties past him nonetheless (*cough* Mbappe three penalties in one game *cough*)

    I can't advocate for Emi's antics. But Lloris has taken an easier answer to getting defeated at pens. Emi is great at penalties despite the antics. The dives are the biggest stretch you see as if he knows it's his way. There is no doubt in those dives. Maybe he also has a better study of the striker's body positioning. Sweep this all under the rug and choosing the antics for his success and your defeat is sort of sad coming from a football great.

    I loved that argentina won(especially my boy messi) and for me,martinez’s is a legend for his saves,especially that last min save which would have won France the world cup(fyi,was crying😂)but winning is not most important thing,i agree with lloris 100%.being a gentlemen matters more for me and many others.however,not all would agree,winning matters more for some and its just a matter of perspective.nothing wrong with either stance…hugo is a gentle giant❤

    Simple, fifa should give Yellow cards for taunting. They do in the NFL. It's Under "unsportsmanlike conduct"
    Same as taking off your T-shirt during a game or taunting and injured player. These kind of signalling to your opponent should not be allowed under the law

    Too many people writing that it's jealousy. Keep in mind that Lloris has won the World Cup as well.
    Don't mind it if he plays mind games *before* the PK's. Whatever it takes. But holding the glove award to his crotch, the Mbappe doll, the song towards Mbappe all occurred *after* he won. This is not mind games but rather a lack of class. Previous recent World Cup-winning GK's, Lloris, Neuer, Casillas, Buffon, Marcos, etc would never be crude this way. This is a lack of education and decency.

    None complains France%Henry handball knocked out Irland. 99% REFFS bias towards EU and against Asia/Africa. Germany handball stopped Sure goal by USA at the goal line, no EU complained then, similar countless incidents EU bias throughout WC history.
    Emi MARTINEZ JUMPED TO RIGHT DIRECTION & TOUCHED Mbappe all 3 penalties. Then same neatly all the penalties. That is not just crazy, that is pure reading the ball & body motion then reflexes.. THAT IS SPECIAL GOALKEEPING TALENT.
