That is an awesome track record Sir! Thank you for your service. Its nice to meet retired booms. Hope I brought back some good memories for you. Its kinda sad to see this jet on its way out. Im sure you had th chance to fly it in its prime days.
Thank you both for your service. Are their two levels in the bay of the plane? I thought their would be those big black rubber containers on both levels? Thanks again.
Thanks for your service.
Thank you for your support sir!
This video is a huge inspiration to me. I'm hoping to be a boom myself once I enlist soon. You make it look easy, man!
Peyton Alexander I’m glad I could be an inspiration! This is the best job in the Air Force in my opinion, I LOVE IT!
This was a great video, I am looking forward to join the Air Force next year and I think I found my career! Thanks for sharing your deployment with us!
So proud of you young man. God bless you and thank you for your service. My father retired 35years USAF - boom operator...Vietnam Vet.
WesGriffin thank you so much for the love and support! It makes doing what we do so much more special!
Good video. Thanks for posting. Thank you for your service.
Hi from the UK. Keep up the good work man, its all the work of support operators like yourself that keep the wheels turning and the planes flying. Keep the pride high :D
Andi Archer thanks man I'm glad you noticed the work the Kc-10 community puts in!!! Much love!
I enjoyed your video! I'm jealous..I'm retired Air Force (1980-2006), and I spent part of the first eight years trying to retrain from Comm into air refueling. But because we were a critically short AFSC (291X0/491X0/3C0X1/3C090), I could never cross-train.
Enjoy your career in the Air Force...it goes so quickly!
I always wondered how good it was to be a boom operator on the KC-135's and KC-10's. I started my career working on the B-52H models after tech school and then went to U-tapao Thailand where I worked on the B-52D models. After that I worked on the B-52G models at Barksdale AFB, then back to U-tapao where I ended my enlistment back on the D models again. While in the Reserves I worked on the A-10's at Barksdale, then to Little Rock AFB where I worked on the C-130's and then to Norton AFB where I worked on the C-141's and then back to Little Rock and working on the C-130's until I retired. I got to fly on the KC-135's a few times and enjoyed the aircraft, but before the airplanes cooled off you nearly burnt up due to the heat. I enjoyed riding on the KC-10's, but hated the sounds of the cables making noises during flight.
Got a chance back in '95 for a ride along in a kc-135 while I was stationed at Howard Air Force Base in Panama. We also refilled an AWACS. Only difference besides lying on our bellies and me recording on VHS camcorder was that we bumped upon initial attempt and had to start the process all over again. Nice scenery though!
So nice😍😍😍😍
Uncle did this as a career for several years and said it was the best job hes ever had and tbh i would love this to be my career when i graduate college
This is my dream job right here. I love flying and I love tech. What exactly on the ASVAB are the main things I need to concentrate on would you say to score that 55+ for General? I am really wanting to do this. Im not too great at math but if it required the math and I knew what specific math I would 100% go for it. Thank you for your time. Also thank you for your service as well.
My son is currently in BMT, WOT6...Projected graduation 7/26; He also got this job as a first pick for his contract; Thank you for your service. Are you still a Boom Operator?
Yeny Rivera that’s my bday! Yes I am still a boom he is very fortunate to get this job it’s the best job as an enlisted airman you can get! Make sure he stays focused and he will do great things! Thanks for the support
Retired Boom Operator
KC-135A 1982-1987 Griffiss AFB, NY
KC-10 1987-1994 Seymour Johnson AFB, NC
1994-1997 Travis AFB, CA
I still can't get used to seeing aircrew in BDU's (or whatever you call them now). Back in the day aircrew only wore flight suits but I know times change. Enjoy your time as a boomer. It goes by a lot faster than you think it will.
I hated them lol I only wore it when I had to lol I wore my green flight suit up until my last day in the service. Thank you for your service Jim!
I just booked this job and ship out the 17th of august
Im hoping to enlist for this in about a year! Sorry im late lol a bit worried about the academic side of things
Hey man, great video, going to put this job in my top ten. I was just wondering, would you say it is hard to get schoolwork done with this job? I plan on trying to get some college done while I'm in. Also, no flight suit for this job?
Nice video man, my brother is an instructor boom at Fairchild. I’m looking at going in as one as well but I heard you can’t be in the same squadron as family so that blows lol I was infantry for 6 years and had 2 buddies that were half brothers and they went to boot together, same platoon after boot and deployed together twice before one died and then they found out they were brothers.
Do boom operators travel all of over the world? I heard someone say that unless I heard wrong
ThatDudeJCrash yes, he’s been to quite a few places. Most of the time he only has to fly a few days a week and gets the others to do whatever he wants. Like when they go to Hawaii. They might be there a week and fly 2-3 times.
Exactly lol
is this a hard job to learn? thank you for your service too! My grandfather was a b-52 mechanic, i am very interested in the Air Force and this is the job i am most interested in
so many kids in this comment section, so wide eyed, so naive and hopeful for the future. hope service didn't completely stomp that out of you guys like it did for everyone i know. i dont know one single person who came back the same from serving in the fucked up US military.
Yo bro, didn't know you could wear BDU's as a Boomer while performing duties inflight.
Haha i feel bad asking them to do that they work so hard out there. Yea these are OCP flight suits the tan flight suits are only being worn by awacs and fighters pilots
I really want to be a boomer and just wanted to ask a question, how often do yall fly when you're in country or not deployed and what does yalls daily life look like when ur not flying
Is it true you travel all over the world as a boom operator ? I subbed too
Yes it is!
I was a baby boomer out of basic training in Lackland A F B ti KC-135a in Robins A F B Ga. to KC-10s at Barksdale A F B La
Good Job USAF !!!!! At 4:56 Is that a RAF Tornado ?
Hey man, im looking to join and this is one of my top choices. I am married with a kid, so i have to ask. How often are deployments? And what is the average length of a deployment for this job?
What's up bro, hey I was just wondering what your asvab score was too ending getting this job???
I scored a 66, but keep in mind the Air Force does not guarentee jobs, its whatever they want to give you or what they need is what you will recieve. I was very fortunate and recieved this job, 1A031, as my first pick. I leave for BMT September of this year. Hope this helped!
Do you travel a lot?
Hey I just started my process for cross training is there anyway I could talk to you and pick your brain about your job?
Nicolys Roberts yes add me on ig!
Maybe I missed it, but what plane are you refueling from? 135?
Haha no KC-10!!!
Dorian Cozart oh dope. Fuel any F-35s? I’m a crew chief on them
Yes I have love them we don't get to do it often though but in the future we will
As a boom operator are you able to choose to work state side only ?
No you pretty much go where they tell you to go and most of the missions are done over seas.
was the school hard for in flight refueling?
No! If we can do it you can too!
were is the fuel stored that they transfer to the other aircrafts ? The take it from their own tanks ? I always thought they had special tanks in the cargo bay
Its stored in a different container in the plane
How long are boom operator deployments typically?
2 months
There is nothing combat about this.
I can tell you don’t really understand this job lol.You are gonna have to tell the Air Force and all the fighter and bomber pilots there ever was that their job isn’t considered combat by your definition. We refuel right over targets and constantly have to worry about SAMs. Without us in the air it’s a nightmare on the ground for marines/army or really any branch.
ok boomer
