      +David Behr No worries! It can be tricky at first just trying to get your rocking the right speed but it isn't hard either! I usually go 3mins kept it shorter slightly on the video just incase people rock to vigorously! Better to be slightly under carbed than over carbed!

    Gday Gash, i watched your vid about a year ago when i was first trying to figure out kegging etc and it worked a treat. Im not too sure what brew it was but it was one of my first grainfather ones and after your advice with getting it all bubbly, i drank it anyway.
    After a bit of time and loss of memory i had to refer to your vid to get the correct process worked out again and i must say, that it has just worked a treat once more on my recent All grain Belgian Strong brew.
    I have seen the 30/30 rule since, ie 30 psi to 30 degs fahrenheit (or around 0 degs C or thereabouts) works the best when force carbing. Not sure on that one, im still learning myself.
    Btw, Big W shoes arent too bad, but the Chinese ones from Rivers do pretty much the same job but a bit cheaper mate. Probably from the same factory anyway. :)
    Either way, i hope you are still brewing the good stuff and dont buy it pre-made anymore.
    All the best and of course cheers.
    Brett

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  Před 6 lety

      Thanks for watching mate, it can be tricky at first, but as you can see it works! Most beers take about 3mins, but sometimes when you are done it doesn't quite seem carbed enough, you can either try an extra minute, or just leave it at serving pressure and it will come good in a day or two. If I'm not in such a rush I'll set the keg at 30psi and leave it hooked up for 24 hrs, no rocking, after that set to serving pressure, again it might not be fully carbed but will come good in a day or two. Its much better to start slightly under carbed and let it come good. If you over carb its a pain in the bum to get it back to normal. My serving pressure is 12psi, but this can be slightly different depending on your set up. Cheers!

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  Před 7 lety +1

      Cheers mate! Lots of contributing factors, get the beer nice and cold, rock constant but not too fast, just so you can just hear the gas going in and bubbling and keep an eye on the time. It can take some practice to get it right but its not rocket science. It's better to be a little under carbed at the start than over carbed. Lighter smaller beers carb faster, big beers take longer. Have great day mate!

      G'day! Another way i use is chill keg/beer and set at 30psi for about 24 hours, then purge excess and drop to 12psi usually ok immediately for a beer and if not it will be ready in a day or 2. Cheers mate

      @xryanox Před 6 lety

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  Před 6 lety

      Something was wrong then, could you hear the CO2 going into the beer? and was your beer cold? I 'd wouldnt leave it at 30 psi for 24hrs because if you had the gas on it would be already partially carbed. Maybe 12hours but you need to be careful, you do not want to over carb it.

    Great video! I am kegging for the first time next week and this video is what made me pull the trigger and say goodbye to bottling. Question: at the end of the video you say that the beer was straight out of the fermenter. Was it cooled to the normal 35-38f or was it at fermentation temp? I've seen some videos where the usually recommend 1 min of agitation so I figured it was because the beer in the video was at fermentation temp not drinking temp. Cheers!

    Great video Gash, for a first time kegger would you suggest force carbing or normal carbing.

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  Před 6 lety +1

      This is good when in a hurry, but it can take a few goes to get right, what I'd suggest for first timer, is either do the long wait at serving pressure for 1 week or 2, but that kind of sucks. The next best and easiest is to set at 30psi for about 24-30 hours, but the keg needs to be cold first, if you cold crash the fermenter thats straight away anyway. So set at 30psi, leave for a day, then let some pressure out of the keg and set to about 12psi some beers will be carbed right away, some will take a day or two to get right. Much better to start a little under carbed then over carbed, over carbed is a bitch! Cheers!

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  Před 9 lety

      Gday mate, I have an older control panel in mine and I set it at -1c even though my beer really isn't that cold. Temperature is to personal preference but will slightly effect psi. I have my psi at around 12-14. Will take a week or two to carb at that psi, so most of the time I do the rolling keg thing at 30psi for 3mins.

    Question for you man, plan on kegging some brew and using a picnic dispenser for a bbq, how long would beer stay carbed once detached from co2..

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  Před 8 lety +1

      it'll stay carbed for ever if kept cold and beer isnt dispensed, but once you start pouring beer you'll start losing carbonation as the gas leaves the beer to fill the space in the keg. So if possible disconnect any kegs you have at home and take the gas with you, otherwise the beer will stop pouring after a few beers anyway. Cheers!

    Hey mate do you put the gas line on the in or out? I've read it works better going down the tub. I'm struggling to carbonate an amber ale. I've rocked the keg twice and its been under pressure for a few days and still barely any carbonation. I don't have any leaks either. Any help would be appreciated

      @HomeBrewNetwork  Před 6 lety

      I don't like putting the gas line onto the beer line, I'd need to change the quick disconnect on the gas bottle to a beer one for starters, and although I understand the idea people are saying I don't think it makes much difference at all, the gas just bubbles through up into the cavity anyway. Saying that when you roll the keg you can have the gas line closest to the floor and you have the gas going into the beer without having to mess around changing quick disconnects. If you amber ale has a lot of alcohol and a fairly thick body it may take longer. Temperature makes a huge difference too, the colder the better. I could give some other advice like turning the gas up for 24hrs but I wouldn't recommend doing that now because you have no idea exactly how much CO2 is already in there and its a very fine line between flat and over carbed. I'd make sure the beer is cold, disconnect the gas line, turn it up to 30psi, reconnect the gas line, lay down the keg and give it 30 secs to a minute of rocking, give it a bit so you can hear the gas rushing in as you're rolling. You really need to watch your times otherwise you'll over carb. Disconnect gas line again, let out excess gas, set it to 12psi (serving) and let it settle for 30min s if you can, and then try again. Cheers mate!

      Thanks a lot mate I'll give it a go. It's under 5% but it is a thick ale, maybe I'm just being impatient.

    G'Day mate. How would you go carbonating at room temp? I use a temprite, so I don't need to chill my kegs. I have been gassing at 300 kpa for 20 hours but it doesn't always work perfectly.

      @HomeBrewNetwork  Před 7 lety +1

      G'day Kevin, I've never tried it with warm beer. I have no idea! If it was myself I'd probably natural carb them if I had the time and use the gas just to push them. Sorry mate, I'm not much help! Cheers!

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  Před 6 lety +1

      Not the roll method no, I've done one half keg and I set and forget it, but there's no reason why you cant. I'd shorten the time a bit though. Cheers!

    Nice Video, every time i do the same as you do my beer is so frothy ,the glass is just full of froth, what do you think the problem could be? my service pressure is about 9 or 10 psi, would appreciate some input please

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  Před 8 lety

      It could be a few things. Do you purge the excess gas out before you turn the pressure down for pouring? It could be the length and diameter of your beer lines. My beer lines are 3/16 ID and about 12ft long. All these things make a difference to the actual pouring of the beer. You could also try a shorter time, or less vigorous rocking. Hopefully you can work it out, I do this nearly every keg.

    • @Jeanclaude001
      @Jeanclaude001 Před 8 lety

      thanks for the return message, yes i do purge before carbonation and my hose is the same diameter as yours plus my hose length is about 12 feet long ,and also another question please can i carbonate my beer using 50% co2 and 50% nitrogen, yes i will try the other couple of things you mention, thanks very much for you input

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  Před 8 lety +1

      I meant do you purge out the 30psi after the rocking, unhook the gas, let out 90% of the pressure in the keg, turn the pressure down then rehook up the gas.. Nitrogen isnt very good for the initial carbonation, I havent tried 50/50 but it sounds pretty high for carbing, its great for serving though.

    • @Jeanclaude001
      @Jeanclaude001 Před 8 lety

      yes i let all the pressure out the i connect it and pressure it up to about 9-10 psi. im using some nitrogen with 50/50 mix just for pouring it works ok, but not sure about carbonating the beer haven't tried it yet, any way thanks for your help i will try to lower the pressure when force carbornating next time cheers Jean Claude

      Some beers will improve over time and so will the carbonation, but when your in a hurry it's fine to do, I do it nearly every beer. It can take a few goes before you get it right everytime, but have a go mate. Cheers!

      I still need to fill the keg and chill it so maybe tomorrow is a better target. Think I'll just do 2mins rocking it slowly as you did. How many kegs will the 2.6kg CO2 last for if force carbing each one and regular serving?

      Thank you buddy im determined to try a way to carbonize my beer before I filter and bottle it . my problem is after carbonation running the pump to force it through a filter foams it up to much... Im thinking of taking CO2 and pressurize my carbonation tank to push it through the filter....

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  Před 9 lety

      Byron Koeder Do you need to carbonate first? You could just fill a keg, use gas to push it through a filter into another keg and then carb it. But you've probably thought of that? Cheers mate!
