Tech21 Pure Clear or Speck Presidio Stay Clear for iPhone 11 Pro?? Comparison and Review!

- Looking for the perfect clear case to show off your iPhone 11 Pro? The Tech21 Pure Clear and the Speck Presidio Stay Clear are both great options, but they have some differences. You will get significantly more drop protection with the Stay Clear than the Pure Clear, but the Pure Clear is noticeably lighter and smaller than the Stay Clear. If yellowing is your biggest worry, the Stay Clear may be the best choice for you as it has an anti-yellowing guarantee.

I have been using tech21 cases for about three years now, always reliable in staying clear, the ones I’ve had only started yellowing a little bit after 2 years if anyone was wondering, and the year-on-year improvements they’ve been making are really nice to see. I love that I can show off the beautiful finish of my (PRODUCT)RED iPhone yet be very well protected!

I've been using the tech21 case for a few weeks and it's a wonderful case. It hands down has the best most clicky buttons on iv'e ever used on a smart phone case. Really looks good on my lavender iPhone 11 too. I'm super happy with it. Love your reviews!

How is it that people say this case has clicky buttons every case I’ve tried of the pure clear it has the most stiff buttons ever. Terrible buttons but the case looks great.

I bought an Otterbox Symmetry Clear case for my White iPhone 11 back in the beginning of January, and I loved it. However, it’s already turning yellow after about 3 months. It was a $50 case! I need one that’s protective and doesn’t yellow. SPECK!! Thanks Tech Reviewer!
Hi Jonathan! Sorry to hear that your OtterBox Symmetry Clear turned yellow. So, I think the key thing with the Speck Presidio Stay Clear is the stay clear guarantee. I'm not at all sure that it won't turn yellow over time--I suspect it eventually will--but you can contact Speck and get a replacement if it does...

I have a tech 21 pure clear for my 11pro max and i love it I always go through so many different cases but numerous brands but I can’t seem to want to take this one off only draw back I have is the home button on the side is super sensitive. it will lock the screen if you set it in its side

I’m actually having a hard time with the pues clear for my pro Max. The buttons suck. They don’t click at all. I can’t tell if I pressed the button or not. The speck case however does have great clicks buttons. I wanna love the pure clear but them buttons are butt.

Thank you for the great and detailed review! I think I'm leaning towards the Tech21. My wife has had one on her iPhone7 and it has stood the test of time quite well. That being said, hers has a bit of a frosted back which is nice for hiding fingerprints. The new ones don't seem to have that :( Question: would you recommend the Pure Clear or Pure Tint? I think Tech21 make the port opening like that so it is compatible with the lightning dock.Going back a few years before they did that,there was complaints from customers that they didn’t connect with the dock.Although that was before wireless charging,so I imagine most people wirelessly charge now so it is irrelevant.Good review by the way 👍
Hi David! Great point on the lightning dock. That is probably where that odd lightning port opening came from. Maybe now they keep it because it is a signature Tech21 look :)
I had the Speck Presidio Stay Clear case for my iPhone 8 Plus (now have black iphone 11). Even after a year the case had not yellowed, however it is a fingerprint magnet as well.

Yeah, it is, but the tech21 one even more. It was so bad with tech21 that I bought a speck case again. When there were many fingerprints on tech21 it felt very disgusting.

Hi Bruno. Overall, I prefer the Tech21 Pure Clear to the Speck Presidio Stay Clear because it isn't as slippery...but honestly, even the Tech21 Pure Clear is too slippery and high maintenance for me. I almost never use clear cases on my phone for that reason.
My power button isnt rsponsive, but volume buttons are very responsive. What it can be? Maybe some tome need to go?
Hi John! Sometimes it can help to take the case off and then work the stiff button on the case back and forth multiple times to kind of loosen it up. You might want to give that a try...

Jason Carmona now i'm using the otterbox case in sturdust for my 11 pro max. almost 4months++ now. very good for protection but side of the case turn yellow very quickly. 2 weeks after used it turn yellowww so bad but i still love the case because the protection is amazing!
Hi Jason. I think that two cases are probably pretty similar in protectiveness. The Presidio Stay Clear is probably going to do better in resisting yellowing, however...

I’m currently trying to decide between these two cases for my pixel 4 xl. Which one would you recommend? Also I’ve never had a tech 21 case but I’ve had several speck cases. I’m kinda leaning towards speck because if it yellows they’ll replace it. Not sure if tech 21 would replace a case if it yellows. I might just get both lol it’ll be good for a backup case.
Hi Jeremy! No experience with the Pixel 4 XL version (or Pixel anything, for that matter), but I think both of these cases are great for the 11 Pro--it just really depends upon what your priorities are. If yellowing is a big deal for you, then go with the Speck for sure. I truly doubt Tech21 is going to replace an otherwise functional case simply due to yellowing. The Speck Stay Clear will also give you more drop protection. But it is also bigger, and slipperier than the Tech21 Pure Clear. So, kind of a tough choice there!
I had the speck case and only used it for 1 week. Scratches easily , buttons not super responsive

Mine was the exact same
They started making the speck ones hard to click since the XS max. It used to be really easy to press the buttons. But I think this time you gotta use it for quite awhile to make the buttons more responsive

Hi Marie! So sorry, I can't help you out there. I do have a green iPhone 11, but both these cases are located very far away from where I am now--I had to relocate temporarily back to the US from Shanghai due to the pandemic, and those cases are still back in my apartment there..

Yeah, my husband and I left Shanghai in late February and have been in temporary housing here in the US for 5 months. Not optimal!! We hope to return to Shanghai in the next month or two, as my husband's job is still based there. Difficult to travel now, though!

On the tech 21 case I had, the buttons were extremely stiff and not clicky at all. And one of the buttons just popped out of the case. Very bad quality but this was a while ago now. Maybe they fixed this issue? Because I’ve loved tech 21 cases in the past.
Hi Daylee08! That was certainly not an issue with this case, but Tech21 cases have had some degree of variability as they experiment with different models.
The Tech Reviewer It was quite a while ago though, maybe the back end of last year. And apart from the buttons that seemed to be defective I actually really loved the slim profile of the case.
Maybe you just got a defective case? Did you try complaining to Tech21 about it?
The Tech Reviewer I ended up just returning the case and selecting the ‘Not adequate quality’ option and I went with Casetify instead. However I’m looking for something more slim, clear and protective and a family member actually has the pure clear on their XR and the buttons were great so i was thinking about purchasing again.

@@TheTechReviewer It was just a magnet for fingerprints. The speck case too obviously, but it was not as bad as in the case of the tech21. Also the tech 21 squeaked very loud.

My spec precidio case for my iPhone X has yellowed.
So sorry to hear it! How long have you had the case? If it is one of the Stay Clear cases with the no-yellow guarantee, then Speck should replace it...
Mine had horrible scratches after about a week of normal use and spec only guarantees yellowing. It also yellowed after about a month
Haley Beaudet do you take care of your cases and phone also? Mine takes 5-6months for the speck to start yellow which is the rubber parts only.

I am not a great person to ask about long term use data, because as a case reviewer, my cases don't usually spend that long on my phone. However, from what I have heard, the Tech21 Pure Clear lasts quite well in terms of yellowing, and the Speck Presidio Stay Clear has a replacement guarantee if it turns yellow...
Speck cases are famous for turning yellow/black on the rubber around the front, but only if you use it every day for months/years. Tech 21 cases don’t turn yellow nearly as fast.

Hi Anna! Yes, it is. At least according to Tech21, and they do some pretty rigorous in-house testing. I don't do drop tests personally...

The stay clear does still yellow.
I think that is quite possibly true, although I don't personally have any long term use data for the Stay Clear. If you read carefully, it's clear that Speck is not saying that it will never yellow...but that that if it does turn yellow, they will replace it under warranty...

I’ve watched this video a few times now and cannot for the life of me make a choice. I bought the presidio stay clear a few days ago on sale from Best Buy for $20 and the tech 21 is also on sale for $20 with a $5 Best Buy’s credit brings it down to $16.21 tax included. I worried about the chemicals used for their anti microbial properties, but I think both cases are safe for the most part. I like the added bulk of the presidio, but dread pressing the buttons. Absolutely terrible buttons. Using my otterbox symmetry it’s hard to use anything with terrible buttons. And I like that the presidio possibly will. It yellow. Decisions decisions!!
Hi Leo! It is indeed a tough choice. Clear cases in general come with a lot of compromises and aren’t typically my favorites. The Mous Clarity was great for iPhone XR-I look forward to reviewing this year’s version for the 11 and 11 Pro. Also, a case which I have totally fallen in love with is the OtterBox Symmetry We’ll Call Blue for my iPhone 11 Pro. It is clear to translucent with a pattern on it, and somehow, that works on a silver 11 Pro to make fingerprints basically disappear. When I take the case off and study it, I can see the fingerprints, but when I look at it on the phone, it looks pretty pristine. Just a great case, and so attractive on a silver 11 Pro :)
The Tech Reviewer Thanks!! I’m going to be returning the black symmetry, presidio stay clear, tech 21 stay clear and I need to send off my Nomad rugged case for a refund as well. I will be trying the clear symmetry and my Mous 3.0 comes in on Saturday so I’ll try that one out as well. In the meantime between cases I’m going to use my Spigen liquid air. I feel so unsafe with this tiny case on my phone.
Are you going with a completely clear Symmetry or one of the patterned clear ones, like my favorite 'We'll Call Blue' version?

The Tech Reviewer hi Christian. I went with the all clear symmetry and the black commuter. I ended up putting my own pop socket on the back of the commuter and I’ve been using that combination exclusively. It’s already taken a nasty drop and saved my phone. I didn’t really like the limitless all that much. The buttons are still terrible on the limitless and I guess otterbox has me spoiled now with their buttons and how clicky/responsive they are.
Anyone with 11 Pro do not get this case (Tech21). The back of your 11 Pro scratches the case easily, and the entire back of the case will be filled with deep scratches. Not to mention, the humps on the edge will damage the stainless steel easily (Midnight green). The case is not even built well, the buttons are loose and the cutouts especially the mute switch are inaccurate.
The stainless steel sides of the 11 Pro line are indeed delicate and can get tiny scratches from contact. However, this is much more of an issue when you get dirt or something abrasive caught in between the sides of the case and the sides of your phone. And as I mentioned in the review, the type of plastic these cases are made from will scratch quite easily. It is unquestionably an issue with glossy finished clear cases. As far as the fit overall of the Tech21 case, perhaps you got a defective case? You might want to reach out to Tech21...Thanks for watching, and taking the time to comment!
@@TheTechReviewer The fit is alright, the cutouts are just obnoxiously huge and not designed accurately. The buttons are loose because they are removable on purpose, but they feel low quality and moves a lot. The main issue with this case is that the plastic back of the case on the INSIDE, scratches as soon as you put your phone in it, due to the rough nature of the matte glass. The Apple clear case looks much nicer
I have yet to see the Apple clear case, so I can't comment one way or another. Based on other Apple cases I have seen, however, I doubt that the Apple clear case would provide as much protection as these cases...
The Tech Reviewer just the bottom of the Apple case is exposed, but don’t know the drop specs.
