    Wow sometimes you don’t really think twice about a design... I had no idea what the Griller was, but it’s obvious now... it’s a fucking grill, and the Salmonids are literally being grilled I guess, so what’s with the stream of ink then? Is that like... fish oil? For gameplay purposes the Salmonids have to leave ink, but fish don’t really make INK, do they?
    The octarians have more advanced tech so of course the Flooders are robots, but the Griller contains living beings so... is the stream of ink actually their body fluids being leaked out because the grill is crushing them? Hmmm
    Whatever the case... I just find that so disturbing

    • @rassicas
      @rassicas  Před 3 lety +198

      YES I also do think the "ink" is like a weird fish oil and not actual ink! From the interview I remember something like "the part that produces ink is a machine" in reference to like the steel eels and stuff so maybe they're borrowing some mass ink producing technology as well from the octarians? The cooked Salmonid getting their bodies pressed for ink does sound pretty brutal. And I mean... When you cook meat it lets off oil, wonder if it's a mix of all of those things 🤔🤔🤔

    • @prinxen1733
      @prinxen1733 Před 3 lety +55

      @@rassicas *I don't know about the griller specifically, but iirc the Steelhead's "explosive mucus" fills the bomb on its head. Although the book saying that it's explosive sounds like it's different than other Salmonid ink, it's functionally the same so.
      *Therefore, Salmonid ink is mucus, just as cephalopod ink is. Though this begs the question- are Salmonid actually mostly or entirely made of ink the same way Inklings/Octolings are, since the Griller produces ink from being... well, grilled? Maws being able to disappear under the ink suggests this.
      *Them transitioning to ink-based lifeforms would provide incentive for them to want to be on land so badly.

    I think my favorite take on "Salmonlings" is the one featured in the comic Cephaloparade by HorseFeathers. They're called Evolved Salmonids and are basically the result of Octarian genetic experiments. They're like merpeople, with a humanoid top and a tail on the bottom, and they don't transform. You can find a good comic dub of it on CZcams by yume's studio.

    I honestly like the idea on the salmonid on a leash picture , in the sense of befriending a salmonid and not having it as a pet , just imagine having a salmonid friend , and while people say that "but salmonids can eat inklings " your dog/cat can eat you too , yet we have them as pets , it would be easyer to have a salmonid friend since its a more sentient creature so it would likely know how to do things by itself unlike a pet so it would be easy to live with one , althought the hard part would be to befriend one

    LOTS to take in from this... personally i always saw the salmonids as kinda smart yet mindless since you could easily point a weapon at them and they wouldn just keep moving towards you but always had that feeling in the back of my head that there was more to them. Especially considering the whole circle of life and honor thing they got going on. It's kinda nuts. Looking death straight in the face with no fear.

    I think that Mr. Grizz is actually a greedy octarian leader and hires you to get golden eggs for him to build more octarian stuff, because the salmonids won't trade them. So basically, if the inklings and octolings stopped working for Grizzco, the octarian menace would get super weak without their golden eggs which they secretly use to build their big, strong, boss machines.

    A thing I have heard, is that the golden eggs are used by Grizz for energy, but they hatch into salmonids that have a good chance to become boss salmonids, like steelheads having explosive saliva, scrapers being smart, or rarely, they hatch in to goldies, which are acctualy what lay the golden eggs, they are just given to other boss salmonids to protect, since the goldies trust them. THIS IS ALL SPECULATION THOUGH.

Just like how you stated they are willing to kill anything including each other in order to get back there.
