I have once in my life seen venus just before dawn, it was abnormally big for a star/planet. I couldn't believe my eyes. It's a rare phenomenon and very few people have seen it.
i have seen it meny times when i'm living in my grandmom's house(kind a rural area). it's shining beautifully early in the morning. not sure it's rare. if we know where to look. sure its a unique experiance. some people call it morning star.
@supunrathnayake-tv4od I'm an amature astronomer and have been following venus rise and falls since decade. I know it's bright anyway compared to all the other stars and planets. But just this one day i saw it in the morning and it was actually abnormally big and bright, almost felt like a second smaller sized moon. That's why I called it a rare phenomenon.
@faizanahmed8561 I have too. All I'm saying is that rarely venus can be abnormally big and bright after years on just 1 day and you have to be lucky to see it that day. One day i saw it that big and i was speechless.
A red giant isn't a dead star, it's a star on its last legs. Betelguese is currently a red giant (from what we see on Earth that is). The sun will die after its red giant phase, but it won't go supernova as it doesn't have sufficient mass to do so. Instead it will simply shed its outer layer into a nebula and leave behind its core, a white dwarf star. The white dwarf is then thought to undergo a gradual loss in energy over a very long period of time until it stops emitting heat and light entirely. That's the star's death in theory and in this phase its referred to as a black dwarf, which is the empty lifeless husk that was once the core remnant of the original star.
About a year so you wouldn't miss it and it would be visible during the day as well. Afterwards it will likely become a neutron star, which is essentially the remnant core of the original star.
It would be neat to have a bunch of mirrors focus as much of its light at night as possible onto a solar pannel and charge up a small battery. Then you can say most of it charge came from betelgeuse at over 600 light years away....
Isn't Betelgeuse a bright red supergaint star When Betelgeuse goes supernova it either be black hole or a neutron star most probably a neutron star I say
That is so wrong if we see the light it means it happened 642 years ago and we are just now finding out about it. But no worry about that .I asked Ai yesterday if Betelgeuse would go nova this year and the answer was No it could take decades or maybe even longer but definitely not this year and it included sources for that information . Certain people are just using it for click bait.
I don’t believe in all that “we wouldn’t see it for 600 years crap”. Something just tells me that’s not correct. But anyway, Wezen is going to blow up before Betelgeuse and it’s huge!
It's over 600 light years away from us. That means it takes light from it over 600 years to reach us. So even if you saw it going nova that light reaching your eyes left Betelgeuse over 600 years ago.
Just like the Earth's magnetosphere protects us from ionizing radiation from the sun that would fry us pretty fast, the sun also had a magnetosphere covering the solar system. It would do pretty well to protect us from the most harmful radiation
_If_ it goes supernova. Explosion is more likely than implosion but both are possible. First, there's quite a large error bar on how far away it is, meaning that the mass is relatively uncertain. Also, while mass is the most important factor, there are other factors determining whether it explodes or implodes and it's in a range where explosion is more likely, but implosion is still possible. So, it might wink out.
