  • What better way to celebrate all the highs through this journey than reading some of my dumb comments! Frank is such a wonderful human being. About 2 years ago I sent you a message on insta asking for advise for me with my ender, since I never used it before. I ask explained my stage 4 cancer fight. You got back to me nearly immediately. I was not able to get back with you sadly. More health stuff happened and I knew anything you taught me would be lost by the time I could dedicate to it.

    The one thing I have learnt in my time on Earth is people who make those kind of Comments Don't even deserve any recognition and no matter what you do or say ; there will always be Idiots who go out of their way to try and destroy something they are jealous of ; more than likely because they don't have the brains to do what you have done with 3D printers! Please please don't take these idiots to heart . Making a video about their comments is more recognition than they deserve ! Keep up the good work and try to ignore the ungrateful ones ! Happy Printing mate.

    Started doing cosplay this year-I really need to start posting stuff on my channel or open up a new channel for it. Based on my experience, no one within the cosplay community will try to shame or humiliate you. It’s those those who aren’t into it who do the shaming or say that what they think you do is stupid. A good comeback for those who pull shit like that would be like, “Ok well what have YOU created? What have YOU done with your life?” Usually comebacks like that will shut them up. Remember, if someone is shaming you for your hobby, remember, you’re not the one with the problem-THEY are.

    Let the haters hate. Here in Southwest Florida there is an organization that dresses up as superhero's called "Heroes Unmasked". They dress up as Wonder Woman, Iron Man, Captain America..etc..and go visit terminally ill children in the hospitals and their homes. They're doctors and police officers during the day, heroes at night. Tell them its "gay" and "stupid" for a grown adult to cosplay as superheros!

  • @TheShadodwlr
    @TheShadodwlr Před 8 měsíci +2

    Frank, I'm a 45 year old father of two who took this hobby on because I was inspired by a combo of a Facebook Meme with a father and son walking hand in hand down a home depot aisle wearing super hero capes with a caption that simply read, "Fatherhood Done Right" and then flipping to TikTok and seeing your Iron Man helmet flip open and I swear, it was like a lightning bolt from God and since then I've been on a journey to create my first Iron Man Suit hopefully in time for Halloween this year so my family and I can dress as Avengers in the Halloween parade as well as just two go trick or treating with them and have my kids look at me as "The Cool Dad". You inspired me Frank. You inspired me to want to be a better parent for my kids... To take a fandom that my family loves and make ourselves part of it... And that's what Fatherhood is about... It's about creating those amazing experiences with your kids that they keep with them for the rest of their lives... But it's also brought me into the world of 3d printing and while there's been a HUGE learning curve there (my first printer I decided to go with was a Creatality Ender 5S-1 which took me forever just to learn how to properly level it's bed.) now that I've been drawn into it all, it's become kind of my mid-life crisis hobby and possibly even a career change... Now, do I see myself making tons of Iron Man cosplays for sale? Probably not, that'd probably lead me into getting sued eventually over copyright stuff... But I have a 3D scanner on it's way in the mail to me as of today and some ideas that might prove to be quite profitable as a business... I just need like 5 or 6 K1 Maxes and I figure I'll be good to go... but I want you to know that even if we never meet, I've got nothing but love and admiration for you... But... I hope one day we can meet at a con or something... Some people only want to meet their celebrity heroes even though as you said, it will never really have any real impact in either of their lives... Me... I'd just like to meet you and shake your hand one day so I look you in the eye and say Thank You for not only all the ways in which you've inspired me... But for all the ways in which you've helped introduce and guide me through this world of 3D printing through your videos without even really expecting anything from me in return. You're my hero dude... Even without the Iron Man Suit On simply because... You're helping me to be the best dad I can for my kids.

    Cosplay? Why? Because have you ever played cops and robbers as kid? We can now make the characters from movies TV shows and comics come to life. And being at a comic book store and having a child's eyes pop and say ' it moved!' Is the best feeling. This was before I got my 1st 3D printer. Polimere and air dry clay, and hand sown clothing. And LED's in the fingers and eyes.
    Some people like restoring cars, some build birds nests. We build our dreams.
    No rocket would exist without a dream.
    Same for cars and airplanes.
    It all started with a dream.

    I'm kinda disappointed that no one said, "Think of all the hungry people you could have fed instead of wasting your money on that stuff!" Well.... Someone got paid to make the filament. Someone got paid to make the spools that filament came on. Someone got paid to ship that filament to your house. Someone got paid to make the 3D printer kits. Someone got paid to do the wiring. Someone got paid to put them in a box. Someone got paid to do the shipping. Someone got paid to deliver the printer to you. Etc., etc. I mean when you think of all the people who got paid to make it possible to make one Iron Man suit, you should be proud of all the people you helped. And BTW, you'd better NOT have a girlfriend! Your wife would not be happy!
    Side note: You are the one that really got me started with 3D printing. You're an excellent teacher.

    I really enjoy your videos, I'd love to build my own Iron Man or Storm Trooper armor, but if I scale the mid section to fit my belly they would look like the Michelin tire man version of the suits, lol. Helmets are still a possibility, as well as costumes for the grand kids. Thanks for sharing, especially the part about therapy. I'm currently in therapy myself, being a boomer there were a lot of personal/generational stigma about therapy and mental health in general I had to deal with before I could even consider therapy. The more people that are open and honest about therapy and their mental health the less stigma there is surrounding it. Thanks again, liked, commented, and subscribed.

That as much work as painting a car or building a custom motorcycle. Im part of the 501st and I loved dressing up for different charity events and Expos. I loved seeing the expressions and reactions on kids. What gets me is sometimes I dress in my Sandtrooper armour which supposed to be "dirty" and a child comes to me and hugs me. It's like, hey, do you know I'm a "dirty bad guy." But who cares! I used the past tense since I dont do it as much as before because I have twin toddlers. Family comes first but I try to attend at least 1 event per year.
    As for 3D Printers, I am excited to buy my 1st in a couple of months (either a P1S Combo or K1 Max) so I can print out costumes for my twins. My biggest project will be dressing them as R2 and 3PO so I can do the "These are not the droids you're looking for" bit IF my wife agrees to dressing as Obi (she's not really a fan "geek" stuff 😅).

    Great video, keep doing what you do! The hobby is fun and when you get to share what you create with others I find it as much fun as creating it! And with the Cons you are 100% correct! If you can give a moment of fun and excitement to just one person it is so worth it! You never know what people are going through in life and if I can make this person smile 100% wroth every minute.

    And this is what we can't have nice things folks. So many more people would share their creations and techniques if not for those who can't keep their stupidity to themselves. Not all of us are blessed with your level of confidence of dealing with these comments. I shared project to the 3d printing facebook group -- and got enough know it alls to make me want to take it down, granted after a bit of time folks who know what they're talking about shut down the "why would you not do this" comments. It's like you have to now preface everything you share taking into account every possible "but actually" that could come up...

    I had the sheer joy of working under a true toxic supervisor. This guy tore at me over just about everything especially dressing up in a costume and performing in staged shows. I said a similar thing to him that you mentioned.
    "I do it because it makes folks smile. If I can wander around in costume and people will hand out money for charity, so be it. I'm down."
    This dude read all of the EU books but just loved throwing me under the bus so no one would look at his geekery. He split instead of being fired due to his mouth and attitude.

    New subscriber here. The algorithm highlighted your mill livestream the other night (congrats!) and now I'm starting to see some of your older videos. A couple of quick comments... I've just started getting into cosplay as I've made some props for ren faire and to wear to s/f conventions. What wearing/having cosplay also does is publicly self-identify your fandom(s). This can lead to more conversations and meeting like-minded folks, even if they aren't in cosplay themselves.
    Sportsball is 100% a fandom.

    To be honest having all that cool 3d printed stuff that u make all over your home would be sick! it would be like each room is just a trophy room. instead of having dead animal heads you got like a Samus helmet and Cloud's sword just hanging there next to each other like "sup", if I saw that irl there would be light emitting around it like a holy grail. not saying it should be someone's whole entire life but it would be some SICK way to decorate! A lot of the comments from those trolls makes me think of Johnny Lawrence in the first few episodes of the Cobra Kai show. A lot of guys who thought they were cool in the 80's who never evolved or adapted in all that time. Just a bunch of emotionally stunted adult-children who cling to the stereotypes 'cool-kids' and 'nerds' as though those ideas are even still relevant today... lol

    I loved this video, man! It's always mind blowing to see how some people react to others loving something like cosplay or building costumes yet are extreme sports fans or something similar (and some are both!). They literally put the same time and energy (if not more) into watching sports, learning stats, buying merch, collecting autographs etc, yet judge you if your passion is for movie suit/prop replicas. Also, don't they realize that there are literally people in Hollywood that do this for a living? If you enjoy watching Iron man, the suit didn't make itself lol. Why is it cool for them to make it but it's just stupid if anyone else does? There's so much more I can say but this comment is long enough lol. Keep doing what you're doing, the 99% love it 🤓

    I hid my hobby behind the shop doors for the longest time. Then the online community exploded and CZcams became a thing and I saw there were a lot more out there like me than I imagined. When I started talking about prop making, saber-smithing and cosplaying at work or with friends, I didn’t get any shade. Most of it was comments about how they wish they could do stuff like that.

  • @mikhcyyy
    @mikhcyyy Před 9 měsíci +1

    Excellent video as always, nice to see smooth brains obliterated by facts and logic!
    However i need a tip. I grew up in quite a conservative society where if your hobby isn't a sport(soccer, basketball etc.), you would be borderline bullied by other kids. It happened before with anime, Yu-Gi-Oh! and now i'm afraid it will happen with 3D printing. The problem lies is the fact that I literally have enough money to buy a 3D printer, yet my parents don't allow me to. Their reasoning is that "I will find something else to do in a week" (I had lots of other "exotic" hobbies before that are seen as strange where I live). I guess my parents see a 3D printer (which is not only fun, but useful as well) as a dumb, expensive and useless gadget that can print only "rough shapes" and is "toxic to humans". Yes, I tried to explain the differences between SLA and FDM printing *several* times but oh well. Any tips?
    Thanks in advance

    I have recently subscribed to your channel and I think it's awesome. After watching your video here, I decided to speak up a bit. I am a 57 grown kid. I have always been a HUGE nerd or comics and comic conventions. I love to fish and watch a Marvel movie any day. That being said, I listened to some of the comments and was stunned. Obviously, they have never been to a convention. Some of these ladies are a lot of fun and go all out in their costumes. Let me take a step back and explain how I came across your channel. I want a 3D printer and my wife is all on board with me. My son, who is a little younger than you, has given me a lot of research and I love it. So, I found your channel when I searched for 3d printers and I am glad that I did. I am still a ways off before I actually a 3D printer but I am going to be printing a lot of Star Wars and Marvel stuff! Sorry for the long message. I have some more videos to watch and have fun with what you are doing.

    People who ask why do you cosplay just don't get it. It's the same as why people do watch sports? Swim? Read? Play videos, watch sitcoms, or go to the movies. They're hobbies and we enjoy them, just because you don't get and not like it doesn't diminish the love we have for them.

    Hey good video subject man. Great work! You got me into this hobby. I do cosplay with foam now though. Way more time efficient and it gives me more control. However, I still print statues that people have no idea are printed. I love printing and painting. We can achieve awesome levels of detail and with the right post processing no one would ever know. I will say this though. It is a skill. Most people are right. They can never 3D print stuff like you, or me, or others.
