Idlewild is such a nostalgic park. Sure it's not super entertaining for roller coaster enthusiasts, but like you said, it's a family park, not a crazy, popular park like Cedar Point or King's Island. I love going to Idlewild just for a casual walk or indulge in some childhood rides. To me, though, it could use some major renovations, but not too major that it throws off the whole family park vibe. Fair review, my friend.

my home park is kennywood i used to go to idlewild when i was younger i really liked it.. there was this ride callled the caterpillar that i loved sooo much, they took it down. I am not sure at all but like 4 rides at kennywood shut down for good and something tells me that they are going to move some of them to idlewild. for example if u ever went to kennywood when u were little u probably loved the kangaroo. ik i did. so they couldnt have just tossed it. and the volcano at kennywood closed down as well THAT WOULD BE PERFECT for idlewild if u ask me.

We went there every year when my kids were younger. Seems the owners are putting more effort into Kennywood and neglecting Idlewild.

Nice review! As someone who lives 15 minutes from this interesting park and been going there since I was a baby, I can say that it’s not the greatest because it’s overpriced for what you get even though it’s cheaper than most. Rafter’s run was the water slide that has been closed for years, it’s special for me though because of nostalgia. It’s sad to see it closed :( I’ve said this on many videos, but wild mouse has to be one of the most bizarre rides in the u.s. By far the strangest I’ve ridden lol

I agree about what you said about Idlewild's "budget", although yes the Daniel Tiger ride is pretty good (in fact, better than some rides at Disney) but is very cheap but it's justifiable due to the park's budget. The park is run-down in some areas but overall I think it's decent (of course the highlight ride for me is Daniel Tiger because it is still unique, an outdoor dark ride where it's an "interactive" show and a sing-along, and yes I am a BIG coaster fan).

Storybook Forrest has needed a makeover for 20 years. I was a kid in the 70s and it really has not changed.

Idlewild needs to start to repair its park. Kennywood owns it and needs to fix it. (Wouldn’t day Kennywood owns it but it’s in Kennywood Entertainment)

You did great on this review even maybe being too nice. You should of talked to the kids working there! Very telling how unhappy they are and why especially compared to the 90s when my cousins worked there. Very sad I'm still nostalgic for this park so it's not like if they spend the money people won't come.
All they need to do is fix the rides, fences, and etc add new stuff then advertise!

i noticed that many amusement parks. amusement parks are like some of the happiest places to be yet the workers look like the most miserable people ever!! heck most of the people who work at Walmart or Mcdonalds look even happier!(or at least not miserable) how the hell does that happen??

I think it's the clientele they attract. Disney/ universal/ Busch Gardens employees seem happy so there's some sorta disconnect

Was the abandoned water slide you talked about in the left corner?

XscreamThrills oh ok. When I went a few years ago, it was open. But, that was a couple of years ago so it could’ve closed.

Sophia Anne when I was there about two or three years ago it was open too. I didn’t ride it though because it looked very old and unsafe.

seilia j it was very old. Moss and plants were clearly growing off it. I rode it and it was fine.

sophia anne that was called rafter’s run, and it was one of my favorites. It’s never open, and it sucks because I’ve been riding that thing for most of my life

The most apt thing you mention is the point of connection with Knoebels, because if you really get that park, you should get this one - both of them have a great rustic charm, which, in the case of Idlewild, this review vastly undersells, IMO.

Idlewild is the trash bin for all the old rides at Kennywood in my opinion. The owners don't care about Idlewild that much because A. Kennywood Idlewild and many other parks are owned by a company in Spain and Kennywood yields more of a profit.

It is so sad that this park is in poor shape. It may not be flashy but it has that old world charm that you don't see in parks anymore. The park needs new management.

Went there and took my kids. Too many rides broke down and they started shutting down different parts of the park way to early. Me and my family ended up leaving angry and felt like we were wasting our time. I predict it will be the next amusement park to shut down 😠

Unfortunately, Idlewild has been having a rough time with operations.
