Soyuz 023 Bomblet Mic Review / Test (Compare to TLM103, U87 Ai, NT1)

Today I review a studio condenser microphone from Soyuz, the SU-023 Bomblet. This mic has an extremely smooth top end, and a “gooey” mid range. The low end is also very controlled while having a nice amount of weight to it. This is a unique, more vintage sounding microphone that is hand made in Russia.

Podcastage That would explain the price.

It sounds warm.

Russian audio equipment is quite underrated. They make great planar headphones as well.

Which planar brand?
underrated by Russians themselves :)

Seems like a pretty good option for a lot of stuff. Thanks for the review!
Love their mics, I've been using the 017 Fet for my audiobooks, amazing sound! Thanks for the review, your voice sounds great on this!
I just know this mic a couple of weeks ago, it sounds so impressive. I was looking for more info and here you are. Thx for the great review!
The King Bee 🐝 is such a great mic for the price
@C Pryme True. It would even be a great mic for a higher price.
I really enjoyed watching this. What a fantastic microphone. It seemed well balanced to me. Thanks.
I bought the Neat King Bee base on a previous review. This comparison just made me see just how great of a mic it is!
thank you for switching between mic takes. its nice to hear the reff before the diff mics.
This has got to be one of the best mics I've heart you use for the electric guitar. So clear, but also really warm and rounded.
That King Bee is so good at that price point. That value it possesses is truly something to behold.
this mic sounds amazing!! king bee was my second favorite for sound quality.
This is a cool looking mic! I recently picked up an Oktava MK-012. I only tried it once but I love the tone. I’m excited to do a video on it very soon
Looks interesting. nice, even tone. The king bee still has my vote for the best bang - for-your - buck mic punching way above its class.
I love the sound of this Soyuz mic. SO Smooth!
It's impressive how well the cheap and cheesy looking Neat Bee holds up against the more expensive competition.
It's no longer available. It was supposed to cost 400 dollars (before the project was discarded). And compete with mics that cost $500-$700 or so.
Your reviews inspired me to buy the NT1, which I do not regret, and even if I had Warren Buffet money I wouldn't see any reason to spend $1200 to upgrade. I also think the KSM32 sounded really good on your voice in comp to the Soyez. For me at least, some of these +$1000 mics go well past the law of diminishing returns maxim, though it could be the CZcams compression and all of that, too... Great review as always, thanks!
the chord progression from SOYUUUUZ NEEERUSHIIIMY
I liked the Soyuz, both Neumann and the Austrian Audio best. The highs, the transparency and the proximity effect are just great on all of those.
This is some seriously nice and unusual engineering and nice sounding.
Gorgeous - like a ribbon mic almost but without a tubby low end.
Спасибо, товарищ!
I really love this mic -- I have one and have used it for many things. Kills on guitar cabs, especially crunchy gained out stuff. Acoustic -- love the evenness and natural sound it captures. Drums -- kick out, room or overheads,...awesome. For vocals,...haven't used it for that yet but I would think on certain people for that vintage warm sound would be killer. And it just looks cool. I need to get another one.
Отличный микрофон
Привет
This is a quirky but cool mic! Nice review!
I love the tone of this mic, but the KSM-32 is probably my favorite of the bunch for voice.
incredibly clear sound quality. 🎙💥👍
Congrats on 200k subs
This video was very fun to watch. Thumbs up.
I liked Soyuz it's really a vintage sounding mic. Well built.
This mic looks so nice and sounds quite natural and warm. I'd like to see a review of the PYLE PDMKT140 though.
Great demo, want to get one
I heard about Soyuz mics, never heard about Oktava, tried to google other Russian mic producers, unsuccessfully. It doesn't mean there are none, just small companies usually may not be investing much in marketing/SEO.
I like the blue-bottle-y design of the mic and its sound! What I read in a Russian article is that one guy from Russia teamed up with another guy from the US and they started this company in 2013 w/o previous experience in sound recording industry. They initially wanted to use the production power of the Oktava factory, bc the Russian guy, Pavel Bezdyrev, is from the same city, but ended up going the independent route. His partner in this business, David Brown, helped promoting the products among some well-known sound engineers and producers, who work with Coldplay, Radiohead, RHCP etc.
Was interesting to learn about the mic and the company, thanks for the review.
THE MORE I LISTEN TO IT. THE MORE I LOVE IT.
Pretty smooth, I like it!
Great review, comrade Bandrew, you have made the motherland proud. *said in thick russian accent*
MOTHER RUSSIA!
The Soyuz sounds damn good like really good. I’m getting one ☝️
I was slightly surprised by the price at USA because in russian stores it costs 60000 roubles which is equal about to $820
Yeah but you have to add import costs and customs
А то что те же товары что в Америке у нас также стоят дороже, тебя слайтли не сюрпрайзед?)
I really appreciate that flawless pronunciation.
The pad looks very similar to oktava MK-012 pad. Soyuz and Oktava both produced in Tula, maybe they use some parts from Oktava production line (Oktava is a huge factory, while Soyuz looks more like a boutique).
Also, if I'm not mistaken, russian punk rock cover artist, comedian and radio host Alexander Pushnoy now also uses this microphone instead of the SM7b and TLM103 he used before.
That microphone sounds fucking amazing.
It sounds very smooth & non irritating to my ear than other cheap mics
I think my preferred vocal tones from these mics go: Austian Audio OC818, Bomblet, King Bee.
Me, "That is a cool looking mic!" Bandrew, "...it will cost you around $1,200." Me, "I'm out."😦
Can you please review the ISOVOX 2 vocal booth?
Love your videos, thanks for all the knowledge and
I ended up choosing the Soyuz 017Fet as my microphone of choice after comparing it to most of the popular CZcams mics (CAD e100s, Shure SM7b, EV RE-20, Austrian Audio OC-18, Aston Stealth & Origin...) and thought the 017 blew them all away with my voice.
I'm gonna be honest: I'm considering buying this thing 'cause it looks so damn cool. It doesn't hurt that it sounds very pleasant, but your comparison showed me once more that after buying my KSM 32 almost 20 years ago, everything else is basically unnecessary.
Wow 🤩 great mic 🎙
Nice vintagy sound. I like it.
That is a beautiful looking piece of gear. I'd like it just to put up on my shelf. :)
Blyatiful sounding microphone
😂
Ууу... сука как посмел, gay
That's one of the Nicest sounding microphones I've ever heard. Am I weird cuz i think it actually sounded better than the u87?
Not weird at all. If the TLM 103 treble is a bit too "in your face", and the U87 mids are a bit too strong, this mic is perfect.
@@loopy750 That's exactly what i felt. They really nailed the lows and the low mids with this without making in sound boxy plus that breathy top end that is done just enough to make it sound expensive.
Naaaah
The U87 is incredibly overrated. So many better mics out there. This is one of them.
@@distortingjack Not so overrated as overpriced, I still love that flat-ish frequency response, mid-ish sounding transformer sound of the U87, but I am very happy with my 10 times less expensive Oktava MK-319.
This Soyuz is on another level I suppose.
Hi Bandrew, the microphone I liked the best, this time, is the Austrian Audio OC818. I just think it sounds better on your voice. Great video, stay safe and keep well...
honestly, all of these microphones sounded more or less the same through my rokit5 speakers plugged into a focusrite 2i2. all of them sounded good.
Goodness this mic sounds great for music applications. Pretty good for spoken word too, although I'll still take the KSM32 for your voice.
Wow. It even sounded great in the untreated room.
Cmon guys! He’s almost too 200k subscribe!!
Edit: He’s at 200k! Great job!
Балдею с того, как он говорит "Soyuz" :)
What they do well in my country (Russia) is the sound. Octave, Soyuz - excellent microphones, though the first is more accessible, but the sound is not inferior to the Soyuz. And also excellent preamplifiers - Long stereo channel, digilab spm 101, 250. I have digilab spm 250 with which I am 200 percent satisfied!
Interesting microphone!
Since I didn't see anyone pipe in about the song you referenced, I'm pretty sure it was Basket Case .. Green Day. And though I don't recall you using it in this review, a bucket list mic for me is the TLM 102.
Could you do a review of the EV Cobalt Co9? I have one and i really like it
that body form of that soyuz mic remembers the blue bottle mic. i like that form and the metal look too. i think the Audio Technica AT2020 sounds better than the other mics, or maybe second after the neumann.
Hi bandrew great review, can you review the samson r21s please?
It also has a built-in dash cam
I wasn't expecting it to sound that good. Definitely not a detailed sound, but I think it would be hard to get a harsh sound from it. Thanks.
Wow! This mic ate all of the other mics lunches!
Nevaton is a solid microfon brand, situated in St. Petersburg, Russia. You should review them.👍
We also have "Nevaton" here in Russia. They produce very good mics. Also, as far as I know, neumann recommends Nevaton as a repair company for their mics. It would be great to see a review of nevaton microphones from you!
Guys, Nevaton has really shitty website and pricelist with no pictures and grahps. I know they do REALLY good mics, but..... HOW do they want to sell something?
Great review, great microphone! Streets of London?
It woukd be great a review of the blue dragonfly
Моргенштерн записал половину альбома на этот микрофон не той стороной)
Пока что это самый угарный коммент тут
I really like Morgenshtern, fun music for sure.
Так это же хуета.
Стыдоба, постеснялись бы кириллицей писать, кретины.
@@dmyudin лох
sounds good!
It could almost be Pachelbel's Canon Chord Progression, which is i.e. used in the song Basket Case by Green Day. Just the second last chord is different I think :)
what microphone do you recommend for classical guitar recording and or a microphone for live performance with classical guitar
Gotta love dem chunki boiz!
lots of comments here regarding the king bee. i just checked and it looks like stock might have finally been exhausted. Not available from amazon or any other outlets that i checked.
Is the king bee even available anywhere? I'm not finding it anywhere. Also, will you review the worker bee mic?
I smell Oktava mic reviews in the future
I kind of find it a little weird that the -20dB pad is a completely separate piece, and isn't a quick flick of a switch.
Is it bad this is my end goal mic because its just so god damn gorgeous
Soyuz 023 Bomblet is great. I have a Røde NT1, whose the sound is natural and clear with high quality for the price. But Neumann U87 Ai is amazing mic, although it is very expensive.
Haz una review del Aston Element porfavor!!! saludos desde Chile!
Thanks, Johann
Can you review the maono au pm 422? It comes as a kit and has very little reviews, I’m thinking of buying it and all reviews seem positive
Damn it sounds fantastic..better than the Blue spark for sure
How does this mic compare to the Soyuz 017 FET for spoken word? Also considering the OC818 and Gefell M930 among others. Thoughts welcomed. Thanks!
Imagine if the pricetag was in roubles...
Then it'd be a Behringer!
Seriously, an XM8500 costs around 1200 Russian rubles.
that`s gonna be around 70-80 thousands rubles
88000 roubles
60000 RUB in Russia
US price includes import tax or some other tariff, probably
@@MyOtheHedgeFox That's only in moscow :)
I think you sound best to my ears on the King Bee.
The rode to me sounds like a budget soyuz, without the extension and dynamics and doesnt have as colored of a sound, the shure and neumann to me sound a little sterile/stale. The Austrian audio def sounds the most similar to me in dynamics and sq, but slightly brighter. I def wanna get one of these guys when i have the money, they just look awesome in your studio.
That bomblet has some punch.
Pachelbel's "Canon in D".
Can you recommend a mic in a price range of 100-300$ for book reading and recording, podcasts, maybe some playing on guitar recording?
Is it just me that likes supporting brands I like by using the stickers they provide? I also like seeing people with similar stickers from the audio industry as if it's common ground for a conversation... (No hate that you don't like stickers btw, Bandrew :) )
I'm using a BM-800 mic with an Alice Mod board that does pretty good for it's value. I really want the King Bee though. I like it's sound.
Hey Bandrew. I've got a vintage condenser mic Panasonic National WM-600, Impedance 600 Ohm, powered by a 1.5v battery. I have tried Googling it but found no useful info about it.
Any ideas how to get the specs of this mic?
Thanks.
It’s not enough to make me give up my Austrian Audio mics, but this condenser has a fine sound.
The Austrian Audio in your other vid sounded great while singing. The Soyuz sounds great and it is soooo easy to listen to BUT there's something I didn't like about it as much when you were using it to song. Especially in comparison.
May you please tell us which microphone its most like? I'm thinking about investing in the king bee. But if you tell me it sounds like another microphone I will buy that. I trust your judgment and I love the sound of this mic, but I don't have a thousand dollars to spend.
