Why would Sobocinski lie? He said that neither of the "whistleblowers" had access to the information they are claiming to know and he is saying that things did not happen the way they say.
Why would the "whistleblowers" lie? Well first of all, as Garland was hinting, neither of them followed whistleblower protocol, so they are not whistleblowers.
Shapely claimed that he was retaliated against during the Trump/Bar administration (wtf). When you dig deeper into the so-called retaliation, what we learn is that he was reprimanded by his management for referring to Joe Biden as "the big guy" in official reports. You may think that's funny, but a DA who is concerned about filing charges knows that this will come out and a defense lawyer will use it to suggest bias by the investigators. So, of course management is going to try and shut that unprofessional nonsense down.
Zeigler has a similar infraction. He was talking about the Joe Biden - Viktor Shokin thing as apparent bribe. Since there are two Congressional committees that have cleared Biden, in a court of law, this would be considered a conspiracy theory and a sign of bias by one of the investigators. As whistleblowers go, these two were some of the worst. They have likely sabotaged any legitimate case against Hunter.

We got a problem. How can our House structure work when Senate can require his absence or ask him not to interfere during an investigation? In fact, who can go to their boss and say, "Don't supervise this investigation. I need you to stay out of it."?
I truly hope someone helps to bring clarity on our House structure and why certain things should never be permissible and seen as "red flags" and be required to be supervised frequently for suspicious requests... that's how I believe it should have been done.
Mike should have asked, "Why would you make such a promise since it was your duty to ensure they weren't breaking any laws? Isn't that why we have this House structure? So that no one can do things in secret? How is that going to help anyone, when now, anybody can do anything without being supervised. Let me ask you something. Do you believe it was wise to change your Constitutional duties when the People relied on you to uphold your oath? You do know that's a part of your job, right? Have you ever given anyone else any special permission not to interfere with their investigations? I just want to know how many cases there are of you refusing to do your duties and turning the other way. We cannot do that here. Nothing like that can ever happen here. No man or woman who takes oath can take it upon themselves to change these rules, as they fit or for whoever they favor. That's called favoritism. I doubt you did this for many other people, am I correct? With that being said, I'm going to push for a motion to have you removed from your duties, sir. You cannot simply turn a blind eye and not remain informed. This is your responsibility. Because you recused yourself from being involved, now, it's more difficult to know what happened. To my colleagues in the House, I strongly push for a motion to remove Merrick Garland from his position of office. Perhaps, we need to start making improvements as we go, finding the root cause for the delay in Justice, the Pursuit of Truth, and the gathering of facts and evidence. It's clear we need to stop the cycle of repeated abuse. In order to accomplish that, we need to utilize FACTS and UPHOLD the Law and hold our colleagues accountable when they break that Law, don't you agree Mr. Garland? Well, in order to begin making improvements, we have to now ensure enforcement of House rules with respect to its structure. It's the only civil order we have and we can never acheive the goals outlined in the Preamble without it. With that I yield back." That's what Mike should have said.
