My old 🏄♂️ stomping grounds from years ago, Sandshoes and Shelly - I’ve never seen so much sand on the “beach” at Shoes. I’ve retired now up to Ballina and pretty much swamped the surfboard for a fishing rod🎣. Great vid, with good info. What-a-bout your Dads bream: Stonker 👍🏻😀

This reminds me of my blackfish fishing days of the rocks at Patonga nsw in the mid 80’s. I still have my blackfish rod and use it for big bream up here in Gladstone Qld. Great video mate.

Hey Scotty! Hope you, your dad and Gary are keeping well during these uncertain times - must be really tough with your chartering business, but we will get through this. Miss bread and butter videos like this a lot as they are very hard to find just like the classic rods you use. Had a 32 year old 8 wrap rod fully re-done by a rod builder and managed to hook , land and lift out a 4.5 kg brown groper (up a 2 metre ledge in flat conditions) from a tight little spot near Wonbarra on Anzac Day. Anyhow, stay well and tell your dad this is still one of my favourite videos. Cheers, Frank

Having never used an Alvey reel, I was wondering what advantages they offer over a spinning reel for this style of fishing?
Yes great times and now for ever on you tube so thats great, I guess I grew up using the Alvey fishing the rocks & beach, great for this style of fishing, some like spinning reels I guess its a personal thing, if Iam spinning the rocks for Bonito with metal lures I would use a Shimano spinning reel. An Alvey reel is pready much bullet proof the sand and salt water won't hurt it at all and very easy to maintain
I just finished fishing that locale for zip....was targeting drummer...what type of prawn were you using....again gentlemen fantastic little episode!!!!
Chris any Prawns will do mate, fishing light is the trick, and years of doing so I guess, love this style of fishing.

Yes Gunamatta could be a good spot, ant area with a deep edge along structure will suit for Black Fish, good luck.

Do you recommend letting the bait sit and wait or slowly retrieving when bait fishing for Bream?
Tony light set up in this type of fishing is the trick and yes lifting the rod tip to keep the bait moving will also help and slow retrieve.

For bait would you use prawns or pillies . Have you noticed any advantage in using cooked prawns
Prawns Nippers both work well, Pillies also are a great bait my dad fish another area a week later and caught five good Bream all on Pillies, thanks for tuning in.

What's that fishing pole reel called? The big reel that turns sideways. I've never seen one like that in the US. Does it have a drag system on it too? Where can I get one across the pond?

Damian no mate just fishing the flats and worms did the job for Gary, he landed about 20 fish in total on the day.
0 on lures only a few follows, strange as all was spot on. fishing I guess.

Do you normally go with cooked or uncooked prawns?

Help please,,, i want to fish for seabass off the cliffs, they are usually 2,5kg... I have to reel them up a cliff 100 meters. I googled all day, 'strongest reel' etc tec. Can't get any results. Does anyone know which is the best fixed spool reel for reeling up fish out of water up cliffs?
Ideally around 485 - 520grams to match my rod. Thank You in advance Guy's.
