2nd official THANK YOU to you, Mr Edholm, on the recommendation of the council tool boys axe! I watched all of the 2017 entries and feel like I gained so much. After a bout with the collins boys axe I got on the cheap, I ordered th CT from amazon last weekend. It arrived today and is worlds apart from the collins in every way; head shape/grind, head fitment, handle shape and grain orientation. I can't wait to use it! Again, thank you for taking the time to share your experience.
I really like that axe too. There are some lemons though and the tempering seems to be inconsistent.
Excellent video!
Righteous. That axemanship series should be really helpful, too, if it is still in the works.
I'll get to it. too many videos to make.
Hey you probably dont remember me but i was the big guy looking for for a axe to fit... I findly found it. Its perfect, its a nine pound Norwegian broad axe witn a fourty two inch long handle and 11 inch bit. I throw chips like nobodies buisness now, half of them fly out three or four inches thick... Its splits just as good as a felling axe except that when i get her stuck, she is not forgiving. Im 6'8" 270 lbs
"the most valuable things I own are skills and knowledge". THAT is a universal truth sir.
makes sense to me.
I'm in, the trees shiver their timbers when they see me coming.
The axe woman cometh
All right Deva!
January 1st for the first tree down. Nice ending! Excellent advice for the new of heart. Be very careful, but brave. Don't over do it. Take it slow and sure. Leave a hinge on the stump. Use a push pole if need be.(that would be a good video, I may have to do that) in lieu of a wedge and saw kerf, which is a good way to go too.
Yes! Please do try that. I've never even done it at all. Never had to. The nature of our wood and woods rarely requires me to do much of anything, but straightforward felling toward a lean. Occasionally we get straight up and down firs, but they are usually small. I want to play with that stuff just to try it though.
Natural lean is my typical route as well but there are time you want to swing on one way and leave a fat hinge on one side, usually with a chainsaw. I don't see why you can't do the same with full on axe. I will give it a go.
I am tempted to give this a try :-) After watching your ax videos I bought a junk ax and have been taking down 1 tree a week for the last few weeks, but I haven't tried doing firewood yet. Will be posting a video soon with my second tree I took down with an ax!
Fun. There is a lot of time, so take your time. No need to commit. Stay safe.
LET'S GOOOOO!!!!!!!
!
I think I'm going to attempt to do it! But I'm going to try to do it with an axe I forged myself... which means I've gotta forge an axe!
Awesome. Next level bro! Do it!
for me the trickiest part of forging an axe was forging a decent drift!
i live in the city i wish i could do this challenge , I'm great with axe , saw and power saw hehe love this channel .. and your knowledge ..
I need to work on my chainsaw. I"m upgrading it to a big bore. I think it will pull a 48 inch bar when it's done. woohoo!
SkillCult I’m pretty good with an ax though. Guys at work think I’m crazy. As for your saw many times people puton a too long of a Bar and chain it bogs down , so much does not give the operatorthe power that you want.
It will just be nice to have the option to use a long bar. There are some pretty big trees here. I'm certainly not going to leave it on there.
Sounds like fun however I don't have any trees I want to do without. I felled trees for my grandfater when I was young. I appreciate your efforts. Thanks
understandable.
Looks like the Council Tool Forest Service Axe my wife just got me for Christmas.
Yes, it is. Reveiw coming at some point. Hope your's works out. This one looks good.
The haft on mine is shaped like a banana. Omaha knife is sending a new one.
I know professor axes are tools but they are just so dam cool, yeah I got a few on my wall lol. But I do carry a good hults brook all the time.
Yeah, well I have more on my wall than I use too. I care about very few of them though.
I'm tempted to join. My only problem is the damn weather gonna be a slow start for me unless i just do some felling now and go to town when it warms up. -25c is no joke.
I'm getting started Jan 1st, Northern British Columbia! -24°C outside at the moment. Hard as f¿€k boys!
I'm interior BC i don;t mind the cold the only downside for me is i spent the last 3 months straight harvesting and selling firewood on my own. So im kinda burned out.
yeah, your looking at a serious pace change there from commercial firewood cutting. I've lived one winter snowed in at high elevation in Montana, but it was actally not even below zero very often, so I don't really know what you guys deal with.
It's the wind that gets me and trying to move in several feet of snow but im thinking there's a few spots on my land where the snow drifts to the North that might be good. No real good hardwood up here just Fir.Pine.Spruce and Aspen. We allowed to cut whatever?
Have you thought about making a discord server for the cordword challenge along with axes? I don't use Facebook but discord may be a good alternative for the challenge
Never heard of it. Thanks.
Cord challenge 2022?
That is all running without me now. Check out the facebook page and kevin's disobedience channel. czcams.com/channels/oMov3tP57tv40esF_ZQ2rw.html
I cut a few ricks last year. I broke my fucken collarbone two days ago, so this year is going to be interesting haha
Bummerland. Speedy healing to you. I guess you'll have a lot of time to watch youtube videos.
I wish I didn’t live in the butbs, but it’s so nice here. I love axes too. Did you ever look into Obenauf’s?
No, only reason I'd be interested in the ingredients list though.
Just as i was telling myself that for 2018 i'll waste less money on axes...i mean i was going to fail anyway since axes are my addiction, i love using them and hoarding them.
If you already own an axe that would be suitable, use that!
TheodorEriksson Can't help myself, I find an axe i like the look of and want to and eventually do buy it.
What is that axe? It looks so new lol
It's a new council forest service boy's axe. I don't remember why I grabbed it, but it matched the color scheme!
👍👍
Silly question, those that join, do they need to fell the wood with the ax as well?
Yes, I have one exception if someone has already dropped whole trees ahead of you limbs and all in an area and you can salvage them. Otherwise, I have to draw the line somewhere and precut wood is pretty much just bucking and splitting.
I’m in Connecticut I need to find someone with land that wants deadwood removed
better if you can to find a live woodlot to manage and sell the owners on improvement. In most cases, you can thin crowded and diseased trees to the benefit of the forest in general. Live trees are way easier to cut.
You using the Rinaldi axe this year?
Never seen one in person.
Given that versatile use of the felling-axe is encouraged,,, well,, poor splitting axe has no fun, poor thing gather dust (not really),,, poor splitter shifts 'gender', and fell the buck out of anything with a limb.
#MoronicAxing #NotAllTools
Predictably, I can't resist. Because #SkillsOverGear,,,
,,,,now look what you've done.
