- Eva Vlaardingerbroek is a Dutch political commentator and activist, outspoken on many controversial issues in Holland. Over the years she has built up a large following online, becoming a popular figure in the world of conservative politics.
Growing up, her faith was never that important to her, so it came as a surprise to many when in 2023 she was confirmed and entered the Catholic Church. And for the first time on television, Eva tells EWTN's Colm Flynn about why she decided to become a Catholic.

every time the bells ring, I start crying. And I have been an altar boy 45 years ago. Eva, I am also a philosopher but was lucky to reason my faith after it was implanted in me. Faith is nothing without reason and reason is logos and ethos.

Great interview. As a born-again Catholic with a profound conversion 16 years ago on a pilgrimage, and the source of the conversion was from the Eucharist, it is music to my ear to hear that she came into the Catholic Church because of the Eucharist. The world is slipping into darkness because of the woke idealogy. As a 30-year vet and an educator, I am fighting an uphill battle against this dark culture that is harming our children while destroying marriage and family in America. I am glad to hear someone with the same conservative viewpoints in both religion and politics. God bless!

@@snappyjo4642 All baptized Catholics are born-again but the term also refers to faith-lapsed Catholics spiritually dead who have fallen into mortal sins, especially sexual sins, and need to be reborn. I was a prodigal son brought back to life or born-again.
@@Heart_on_Fire1 The reason I have a problem with the “born again” label is because the sacraments of the Catholic Church is what keeps one close to Christ and the Protestants have made it a one time act and it’s about growing in the faith not just and act of saying I’m born again. Jesus told us we must follow the commandments to love Christ.

I have followed Eva from afar and was always impressed with her wisdom and courage. She is not far right, but the voice of common sense. I am not surprised that she found her home in the Catholic faith. The Eucharist will continue to give her the strength to stay the course and St. Michael the Archangel will protect her. Come Holy Spirit and renew the face of the Earth. We were made for a time like this!

I honestly want to understand Catholicism and I've always understood (in general cultural knowledge) that we are divided by our beliefs. Are our differences fundamental or inconsequential to salvation?
@@angru_arches Michael appears in the old testament and in Revelation. Gabriel, who appeared to Mary, is another that appears in the Old Testament. As to our differences, they are fundamental (e.g., the Eucharist), but you are only responsible for what you know. Still, you must seek and respond to what is found.

@@angru_arches No idea in the case of angels. Saint means the church has examined a life and declared it trustworthy to emulate. To me, there is no reason to make that distinction in the case of angels. As to 'not in the Bible,' if 2 Thessalonians 2:15 is left out of the conversation (or 'teaching' incorrectly substituted for Tradition), then I can't use the defense that the church has always believed something--even though it is a valid marker. Praying to angels? Well, there are a couple of prayers formulated to ask for their help, but there is no requirement to say them. There are distinctions in prayer that might seem foreign to you, but they cause a Catholic no confusion. I know when I'm talking to God, and He alone do I worship. The rest I honor or ask to join me in prayer. I'm not qualified to take any of this further. But I do respect your interest. Scott Hahn is a wonderful resource. As a former Protestant minister, who kicked and screamed his way into the Catholic Church, he IS qualified and knows the nuances of our particular faith languages.

I don't have time to watch this right now, but the interviewer says she is a libertarian. If that's true, libertarianism is incompatible with Catholicism. I am a repentant libertarian and now a catechumen. I spent years reading Nozick, Rothbard, Mises, etc.

Fascinating interview. As a farmer I find it perturbing that these tree hugging hippies and wastrels who want to demolish agriculture, then turn around and go to the grocery store or the market and expect there to be food available. I grew up in rural Ontario Canada, and there were dozens of Dutch farmers who immigrated here after the war, mostly dairy farmers, good farmers. Now their grandsons are carrying on the family farm as Canadians. That is healthy immigration in my opinion. They serve on the fair board, volunteer as firemen, go to church, raise their kids. I guess there are bad apples in every barrel, but the Dutch farmers here are pretty good as far as I can tell. This gal is a breath of fresh air, I hope she is able to create positive change in her part of the world.
They aren’t tree hugging hippies anymore. They are millions of people who have been college educated in our universities over the last 30-40 years.
She’s brave. She’s an inspiration to many, rightly so.

Zelf vind ik de St. Augustinus ook mooi, maar de St. Gerard Majellakerk is bijvoorbeeld weer wat soberder. Naast het interieur is ook bijzonder dat in de St. Willibrord ook nog de Tridentijse mis viert.

A while ago when I first heard her speak, I sensed she was Catholic.
The way she spoke courageously, yet humble is a trait few have.
"I now have a home every place in the world." This is the beauty of the Catholic faith.
More impressed by Eva's dignified demeanor and responses than Colm's somewhat off-putting interview approach and questions. She exudes aplomb from which he might learn. She is a most welcome gift to the Faith.
Colm is a healthy male, and he may be the most chaste man, but beauty is beauty. Add brains, then one should strive to focus on the matter at hand.
After finishing watching the video, I should say he managed it quite well.

She doesn't go far enough! All she says are traditional truths that all western countries maintained prior to 2016. A nation without borders is not a nation. And a population with different rules or laws for people based on their skin color or place of birth isn't sustainable. Either laws apply to everyone equally, or they don't apply at all.
Prior to 2016? Mate the West had gone bonkers already prior to 2016.
What happened after 2016 was the acceleration of the effect of what the West has done since the Reformation.

When someone emigrates to another country for its benefits and does not adopt the values that made the country what it is, that country will change into something far less attractive, most likely. It is the job of the government of a country to make sure as far as it can that immigrants appreciate and intend to adopt the values of their new country, to possibly make it even better.
Been Catholic since 2010 when I was 55 years old. I have attended Mass in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, China, Singapore, Australia, Philippines, Canada, and USA. The Catholic Church is truly the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. I feel at home and loved wherever I travel.

Nitrogen changes the landscape but it doesn't turn into ash, fire and death. It still turns into nature. NL is highly densely populated and land is valueable. Everything here is highly efficient, that is the culture, for hundreds of years we aimed to do everything as efficient as possible because of the condititons. From this spawned the best agriculture that ever existed. From our small plot of land we are able to supply immense amounts of food for ourselves & the globe. If our farmers are gone, it will be picked up by India with very inefficient, dirty and climate harming argiculture. Everyone knows it does not make sense to pursue this path. There is a hidden agenda and it does not benefit the common good.

Wow. As a man, I can see how attractive she is. It's so rare to see attractive women being so concerned with the plight of poor people thru social activism. But even rarer, to see these two elements in a woman who is also convicted in her faith.
