    Great tip about gently hammering a rawl plug in using a screw. Never thought of that. 👍

    I am very wary of drilling into brick walls. This video has provided me the 3 good reasons why I should or shouldn't drill into the bricks. Thank you very much.

    An important factor often missed is if the brick on your house is still available should it crack in the future and in many case they aren't or won't. In my opinion it is better to drill in the mortar most of the time and plan accordingly to get the strength needed (number of anchor points / type of anchor). Good drilling tips in this video!

    Are holes in brick easy enough to patch without looking weird if the item you’re mounting doesn’t remain there forever?

      yes use a external brick caulk or similar in a similar colour. It's a good idea to sweep up the brick dust on the floor after drilling and keep it somewhere safe. Then when ya caulk it just dust some of the dust on and it'll set with it. Can barely tell then even close up.

    Drilling a 1" wide hole into a brick wall to install a sillcock. (there's no outdoor water access and my garden is thirsty!) Any tips? I'll be drilling all the way through.

    Unfortunately for me, my existing doorbell is installed to where drilling new holes for the video doorbell would have me drilling one of the holes into mortar.

    A quick question whilst I'm here, I drilled 4 holes into an internal solid wall for shelf brackets, but the holes are a bit off even though I marked it correctly. I now need to drill another 4 holes slightly higher and to the left. How far apart do the holes need to be from the first set of holes to avoid weakening the new drilled holes?
    Also, any advice for drilling holes accurately without the drill bit wondering off? I'm thinking off using a much smaller drill bit first and then working my way upto the 8mm bit that I need. Thank you kindly.

    • @JamesMontana
      @JamesMontana  Před 2 lety +1

      As long as you are 10mm away that will be fine. If the wall is very pourous i would use a hole punch to start off. Start the drill off hammer first and you should be fine.
