Detailed Sewing Tutorial For A Beginner : Simple Linen Top, Bias Binding Neckline【Free Pattern】

  • How to sew a simple linen top for a beginner sewist. I designed a simple top with no zipper, no buttons, no set-in sleeves and no collar. The neckline opening is modest but just big enough to put your head through without any opening (my head is about 22.5” circumference)
    I tweaked the pattern a little since I filmed the video, so the actual pattern will look slightly different, but the finished project should be the same as you see in the video. Also, after tweaking the pattern, pattern page 15 & 16 became empty pages, so skip these two pages when printing if you want to save some paper.
    The pattern can be downloaded for free here: www.madebysachi.com/2021/09/2...
    The pattern comes only in one size, which is designed for 34”-36” bust, but it can be worn by a smaller person as a loose-fit garment.
    I’m thinking about future videos on pattern grading (changing the sizes of patterns), so if you are interested, please leave a comment :) → here is the video! • How to Make Sewing Pat...

    Finally! Someone who shows, in detail, how to do everything. Thank you! I just printed out the pattern and it was so easy to put together, using the window method. Figures, if someone who’s teaching, a video is very thorough and precise then the pattern will be the same way. Love it so far!

    It's so good and helpful to see how to sew things properly when there's so much "just get it done as fast as possible" around! I learned a lot from my Mum but not how to apply bias binding, so this video was valuable just for that; but you also give tips and tricks, like stretching both layers a little on straight seams, that an inexperienced maker like me may not know or may have forgotten. Thank you so much.

    I just worked all day with a pattern similar but my neckline turned out wavy… the instructions had you fold the bias in half and sew both edges to the neckline, understitch, then fold inside and topstitch. The neckline is puckered after pressing. I’m sad.

    • @SachisStudio
      @SachisStudio  Před rokem +1

      That method usually works well but bias binding could be tricky… how much you stretch the bias tape beforehand affects the result and it changes depending on the specific fabric you’re using! I hope your next project is successful ❣️🌷

    I made this shirt using a sheet. I wasn’t sure if I was going to have to add to bust so made mock up. All the pdf patterns I’ve tried are so tight in bust area I get discouraged. This is absolutely stunning and fits perfect. I wish I could add pic to this comment but can’t figure it out. I now have the confidence to cut a piece of linen I’ve been saving since I started sewing a few months ago. Thank you so much for the free pattern and adjustments tutorial as well. It all makes sense now !!

      It makes me so happy to hear that your mock-up came out great ! I also have to make bust adjustments to almost all patterns I purchase, so I made this shirt pretty roomy around the bust area ;) If you ever decide to share your make on social media, please tag me @sachidonguri . I’d love to see it ❤️

    Great video. Would you say linen is an easy material to work with. And how was the fit after a wash?

    • @SachisStudio
      @SachisStudio  Před 2 lety

      Thank you! I’d say linen is fairly easy to work with, but cotton would be easier. I always pre-wash fabric before cutting so the finished garment doesn’t shrink :)

    I like this pattern and your tutorial. I know that you mentioned that this is one size and that you might increase that in the future, do you have a chart or dimensions so I can determine if this will fit me before I sew it and did you make another pattern to increase the size? Thank you.

    I’m curious if I can cut my linen fabric with the selvage edges on the side of my fold instead? Will it make a difference in the look and fit of the top?

    • @SachisStudio
      @SachisStudio  Před rokem

      I’m not sure exactly what you mean, but if you change the direction of the pattern on fabric, the drape would change slightly, but not so much with linen fabric (unless you change it to diagonal cut). I would hold up your fabric in different direction in front of a mirror to check the drape❣️😊
