- We started our dream with an old junk grain gravity -style wagon. Over the course of 6 full days, we re-imagined it into a full size 7' by 10' mobile deer hunting machine! This video gives tips and tidbits for how you can get to the same place, and takes a LOT of the guesss-work out of the challenges you'll face along the way. GOOD LUCK!
One of the best half hour videos I have watched in a long time. You guys did an awesome job explaining it from beginning to end.
Thanks Jennifer! Our War Wagon was a labor of love and we had a great time building it from the ground up. I hope it inspires you to attempt your own "deer chateau".
Wow! a gravity wagon that all four tires hold air! impressive!🤣
You could store corn in bottom to feed the deer lol
That's what I'm saying lol. They'll come running like it's their own ice cream truck coming through the field
Put a propane tank under it and plumb up to a heater.
Also you could put some anti freeze and water in the tires. That would help anchor it.
WHY da FUX would anyone give this thumbs down, haters! This is AWESOME!!!!
Probably bc the edits are kinda cringe, I like the blind a lot tho
Think it would of been cool to make a little storage compartment under the floor... you could maybe store some extra hunting stuff, hand warmers, calls, extra ammo, etc...
Either dry storage, or , water tank and a sealed sewer tank with a hose piped to be able to dump it.
Just a thought. There’s quite a bit of room under the floor too much to waste. On the lower side a box could be built with a door inside .
There is some REALLY nice engineering going on here. I don't know if you've had formal training/education but most farmers I know can make-up some of the best simple stuff. Those stairs are pretty slick.
Any deer hunter will love this video. Great job guys! I’m building one too!
Smart that you sealed it up against wasps and mice. I used an old door in my haywagon build and can't sit for hours with mice urine.
Your editing and camera work made this completely entertaining!
Thanks Kenneth! I do video production for a living, so this was a labor of love. Happy to capture most of the key moments to compile and share!!
i looked at a wagon just like this yesterday. Thank you for the ideal.
It'll be official once there's been beer spilled in it and some blood tracked in.
Sweet build.
Anything with Alice In Chains playing in the background, I have to give a THUMBS UP!
Just inspired me to get this project done, thanks for all the ideas and the thorough detail that went into explaining things in this video!
So Cliff - we have to ask... DID YOU BUILD IT??? If so - send a picture!!
Absolutely loved the video guys. Thank you for sharing this. What a great idea.
Nice job on the details!! Hell of a blind.
Pretty awesome. Liked every bit of the build. Nice work.
Thanks Andrew- we hope it inspires you to build something similar. Now that we are hunting from it, I’ve had NUMEROUS deer come right past with very little concern. Also had a flock of turkey within 50 yards. We have a Mr Buddy heater as well for those colder days. 15 minutes boosted the temp by 10 degrees.
That was a really fun video to watch. Also gave me the ideas I need to complete my grain wagon blind!
Hey Joe - We love hearing that we helped out a fellow hunter complete their project. We couldn't find anything helpful when we first started to work on ours. Of course inspiration took over from there! Would LOVE to see your blind when you get it done!
Sick Video! totally had me hooked for a half hour. Great build and Great editing!!!
Thanks for the comments! We had fun making the blind and the video. and I love to edit. (FPVP Video Productions)! Yes, that's how I earn a living!
Great project. Well done and Good Luck!
Thanks Chris! Hope you get to the finish line.
Great job guys ... You made me laugh during these crazy times . I may have to replicate your build ... Thank you and Cheers from Michigan .
So glad you enjoyed the video! Our goal in making this video is to inspire others to GO FOR IT TOO!! Good luck and send a picture when you get there. It WILL be worth it
I’m about to start one and watching this gave me a some ideas
That was a awesome build
That's a cool idea an you can take it anywhere! ONLY thing I see missing is shag carpeting on the floor lol
Awesome and great music too!!
Thanks Martin. I thought the Alice in Chains tune fit the War Wagon well. I hope they check it out!!
Absolutely an awesome build. Wish i saw this a few months ago. the guy down the road gave away 3 of those grain bends. Just my luck. The only thing i would do is paint the inside black. I noticed as you were moving it how bright it was on the inside.
We have one more wagon about the same size, and our accommodations were the talk of our deer camp this past weekend. I've got 3 more long windows, so there will likely be another one built at some point.
The staircase design was the genius part to our process along with the folding hand rail. We have a couple elderly hunters who can't climb a traditional ladder blind.
We've talked about some drapes as well, but the larger openings have been good for video opps.
Ready enjoyed the video. Reminds me of one that a friend in S.Ill built-in. He used a old hay wagon. We used a dark brown paint for shooting houses in Ky. Look forward for more of your adventures.
New video coming up!!
Outstanding video and work. Gave me a great tutorial on my own!
Would love to see your version! We are beginning to accumulate material for WWII! We may be another year out, but have the wagon in waiting.
1 of the coolest video from start to finish
I learned a ton from it thanks 4 sharing, I do have 2 of these Wogans not in use anymore deer blind it is..
If that doesn't sell the idea of a deer wagon! It's still killing deer. Thanks!!
Show host and lead carpenter...priceless! Great vid.
Thanks Sam!
The War Wagon inspired the Rack Shack with a John Deere 68 wagon. Exterior is done. Time for the “finer things” on the interior.
Would LOVE to see a photo of the "RACK SHACK" when you get her finished up. Hoping it's ready for its first season! It's HERE!!
New follower here. Wow, love the deer blind. I really love how you can move it around. Outstanding job. We have a to. Of hogs and this would be perfect.
Eric and I have been wanting to go somewhere to shoot hogs! Yes, I think a war wagon would be perfect for that. We each have rifles with Sightmark's Wraith scope. Hoping to take out some coyotes this winter from inside the Grim Reaper!
This is awesome. Looks good
Thanks!
Awesome video and great music..
Glad you liked the music selections! Metallica’s ENTER SANDMAN was a must for our time lapse since we incorporated the Grim Reaper design. And Carmina Barona’s “O Fortuna” is a classic!!
Okay, now that was a really cool trailer makeover! Good job, God Bless. I believe you will have good scent control....
Thanks for watching Sean! Our scent control is 100percent. Nothing ever smells us... And now that we have curtains, no skylining either. We have now killed turkey, coyote and our first bobcat from our blind!
I was about to say that has to be top heavy as hell, but then you put concrete in it. Good call.
Love it. Great job.
Great video and detailing time lapse enter sandman is awesome
Thanks for watching it thru to the BEST PART! 👍
Nice job👍
Great job guys! Shoot straight, stay warm 😉
New video coming out now!! Buddy heater on for January hunt!!
I am checking locally for a budget gravity wagon to make road worthy. To become a blind with archery platforms.
i would put some tint are camo neting on the windows to keep from sky lighting your self thats what i did to mine...
Good job farmerizing
👍 love the intro this ain't no old house lol
Awesome video brother!
Thanks for watching!! Good luck this season! We're on the go with a new video coming out soon.
You need more subs you are so confident and funny me and my dad just made a deer blind on a hay wagon and put 0$ into it it was a bunch of what we had a lot of treated I will make a video on it soon on my channel a slideshow of mine
You could live in that damn thing. I want one.
very nice!...... love it
Thank you! Cheers!
Put carpet on the window ledges too!! Deaden the sound of rifle placement . FYI
Great work . Great idea. I’m doing this . I know where there is an old shitty gravity wagon.
Love it!
Do you by any chance have any drawn up plans and material list you could share? It looks awesome. I just but an old wagon at a farm auction and am excited to get one built.
LOVE it! Did you consider the addition of a solar panel in the future? I added some to a cabin in the middle of nowhere and really like them.
It's funny that you ask!! WE JUST INSTALLED ONE! We now have a marine deep cycle battery inside, with a power inverter, and so can keep that charged with a solar panel!! It's awesome for keeping our video camera charged up, and basically having power inside at all times.
Looks great but you still need a fresh air vent for when you are running heaters.
Generally we keep the windows open when we are out there Jay! We don't want to die either.
Weld a metal frame in the running gear pour cement in that for balast...sweet blind tho
Straight 🔥
how will you deal with the glare of sunlight off of the windows?
Great video. Where did the stair hinges come from?
Hi Scott, thanks for watching the video! There really aren't hinges. We've got pins that the stairs hang onto. My buddy says he found that hardware in the "gate and hinge" section at Menards. Hope that helps! Sorry for the delay.
Marc, I have been building one also. I like the concrete ballast idea but wondering what you might have done to limit the rocking or stabilize the wagon from high winds?
Sidney - we've talked about potential wind issues, but in our current location it's not a problem. If we put it in the middle of a field, we may have to be mindful of this. We have talked about installing "eye bolts" in each of the four corners that would allow for some type of straps attached to stakes. I will update if we install something additional. Thanks for watching!
@@markherman4730 OK thanks, I will let you know what I come up with.
We are building one now. We bought four 2-foot anchors you twist into the ground with the eye hole at the top. Installed some 3/8 eye bolt's at each corner of the wagon between the floor and windows. You can use ratchet straps, steel cable, or just rope to tie to your anchor points. Just make sure the anchor is 75% of the way into the ground.
We are doing one too.
LOVE hearing that. It just works about as good as you could hope. Take it easy on rough roads. She's a little top heavy. The ballast helps.
That’s fricken cool
I love this video. I was just looking into a mobile blind but didn't find much. I love the gravity wagon idea. There's actually one that's not being used at my dad's place I hunt. He doesn't farm anymore so it may become one because of this very video lol. I just put in an elevated box blind this year ; 12 ' height to floor , 8x8 with a 4 ' porch lol. Pretty decent but something mobile like this is amazing. I sincerely thank you for sharing this. Phenomenal job here man !
Thanks! And we hope you go for it! Once in place, deer and Turkey walk right past the wagon. Good luck with your build and send a picture!
This is my first blind of any kind czcams.com/users/postUgkxLQGtOO9dXIsNktEeycGoIT6jtJJNTScA so nothing to compare it to. After I receive it, I set it up and left it outside at home for a couple of months to let it start smelling more like outside than human. So far I've been very happy with it. Very roomy - I hunt alone but could easily fit another person comfortably. Put one bolt through the shoot-through mesh, and works as advertised. I've ordered another one, so this noob is totally satisfied. One caveat - the included stakes are pretty useless; you'll want to order something more substantial. I haven't had it long enough to rate durability, but zero issues so far.
Just picked up one of my own after seeing this. Totally going to steal this idea!! I think this is one of the best ideas I’ve ever seen!! Now that you’ve gone through hunting season is there anything you would’ve done differently? Thanks for your time and a great video!
Last official deer hunt this weekend! Excited to get back out. If you've seen our hunt videos Charlie, you can see that the deer don't mind it at ALL. With the insulation, it's really sound deadened. Don't go cheap on the door if possible. That's been great. We will do something for next year in the way of "curtains" but the big windows are great for video needs! We were busted twice by turkey. Please post a picture when you get close! Good luck!
One other thing - I still think that a place to urinate easily would be a bonus without opening the door.
@@markherman4730 Totally agree on the place to pee. Any issues with the wind I live in Indiana so I’m not too far from you and I know we had some windy days this year. To your knowledge was a pretty stable? I’m thinking I need to add tiedown anchor points on the corners.
@@markherman4730 Thank you for the reply. Good luck this weekend!
@@strapassassin once we put the concrete ballast in the belly, it is STABLE. No longer worried about wind.
Mark
Can you put a parts list together to give me a ideal what to buy for this project . Thank You .
We didn’t develop a parts list, sorry. We cobbled things from a variety of jobs and locations and filled in the rest with new materials as needed. I wish we’d taken better notes as we may build one more of these... good luck!
@@markherman4730 Thank you
are you in the Champaign-Urbana area or the next County over possibly Vermilion County?
We live in Champaign County but the farm is Crawford County. I hope this inspires you to build up a war wagon!!
Drip cap is what you need. Menards sells 1 1/4 and 2”
Thanks Nick! Eric's buddy decided to hand make our pieces. But you're right. Looking at the picture it's a "DRIP CAP"! Good luck and hope you're building a wagon!
How do you think it will stand up during Highwinds I’m doing a Haywagon I heard some guys had problems with wind blowing them over
We've put in about 800 lbs of concrete in the bottom for ballast. Watch the video all the way through and you'll see that discussion. We've used it for 2 years and moved it all over the farm. Yes, it's top-heavy, but take your time and she aint tipping in the wind.
A good commercial size fan ....think it's called Snell fan or some shit like that
❤
Window tint for house windows can see out but not in.
Hi Jerry - That's a really nice idea. Might have to try that! Thanks
We’re did you build this at
The War Wagon is in Crawford County, Illinois.
What are the dementions may I ask??
The video said the wagon is 10’x7’
How do I find first video on this?
Barb - our first video is the gravity wagon conversion. Nothing before that!
Flip your blade cutting Tin . Lasts much longer
The War Wagon deserves five Bourbon shots...🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃
Thanks KDawg!! We take this 5 bourbon shots as this highest honor we could receive!! We toasted your rating with a shot ourselves!!! 🥃 right back at ya!!
So, I would have called it " Trojan horse."
Also, if you're insisting it needs ballast, why why not fill it with cow corn to be spread out around the hunting site?
Then, just add a pond.
I could see The Trojan Horse for a gravity wagon conversion! They definitely need a name- take on your personality, etc. GOOD LUCK!
I LOL’D at hey fella’s welcome to the shitty ol red wagon. Crying
Since the belly still opens I believe I would have put a urinal in the corner haha
The urinal idea is still a consideration. A couple beverages puts a strain on concealment for sure! Ha
We put a funnel on the inside attached to a garden hose with a screen at the end. Hose runs all the way to ground to prevent nose. Just stand in corner and do your business in the funnel and it exits the wagon.
epic
I seen them deer wagons in Northwestern Wisconsin.
Those look like interior screws. The exterior are a more puke yellow looking color
Should be called "Meat Wagon"
War Wagon was a John Wayne movie!! Meat Wagon was not!!!
Should have used a John(Deere) wagon just sayin
This shitty old wagon is a KILL BROTHERS original! We are a green farm, but the kill bros name was fairly ironic!
Never work.
Deer watch CZcams!
Ha ha!! Watch our hunt videos and you’ll see they missed the grim reaper warning!
Must be from MI, anything goes there nowdays! what ever happened to real hunting ???Far from fair chase as well.
