That’s just the two tournaments before Southgate, we can also talk about WC 2010 and that 4-1 loss or maybe euro 2012 where England were also crap. Or go back to Euro 2008 where England Almost qualified

Trent will be subbed on in the final & will win the cup with a nice assist or a worldy goal or ice cold pen or all 3.
Pray more 3 🦁 fans as it's how Messi & Argentina ended 36 yrs of hurt. Gareth will make good plans to winnthe cup & we believe our 3 lions will bring it home ! As Destiny is driving, Jude & the 3 🦁 just like it drove on Messi in 2022

Bookies put huge pressure on Spain as big odds on faves & the 3 🦁 love it. As underdogs they will play free like brave strong lions hunting spanish prey.
I'm happy to win 1-0 with a late winner from worldy pass by Trent to Jude in the 90th minute & then hold on for dear life in the final 3 minutes of added time.
But of it ends 2-2 AET & 3 🦁 win 5-4 on pens, that's fine too.

For this one, maybe trippier would be a better option, at least defensively for the first half, as Lamal tends to come inside, meaning Trippier being right footed would naturally be better against him

But Mr. Bean(s) have been in charge before the Southgate appointment. People forget how many times England didn't qualify for Euros, got out of the group stages or was knocked out of 16 ( Iceland 2016). Southgate has done an amazing job.

As far as some of these "pundits" are concerned, England can lose 0-5 to Spain on Sunday and these media people or ex-players will still praise Southgate as the best manager England has ever had simply because he took England to 2 consecutive Euro Finals. (These forgetful "experts" conveniently leave out Sir Ramsey who actually managed England to win its only trophy in 1966.) Southgate is already a god and can do no wrong in these people's (the FA included) eyes. Remaining trophy-less is not going to diminish his deity status. These pundits and ex-players are going to call for knighthood for him regardless of Sunday's performance and result.
On the other hand, for supporters who want nothing less than an England trophy, keeping Southgate beyond this Euro will be an absolute disaster.

I think he'll have had a lasting positive impact on the squad as well as the FA, and I think that's fairly unique among England managers. There are solid foundations for the tournaments in 2026 and 2028, possibly beyond. Personally I'm hoping he sticks around within the FA structure because aside from on-pitch tactics he's actually a really good manager. People undervalue the enormous work he’s done to fix the culture and the media side of the England team. The interviews with past English stars all paint a clear picture of an England setup with a fundamentally broken culture. Southgate and his team have done an exceptional job to transform that.
