  • In this video I give a behind the scenes look at how I go about my street photography while out on a photo walk. This was my first time visiting Manchester and while I only scratched the surface I came away with a handful of shots I'm really happy with.

    CZcams suggested you, I subscribed on the first video. Now you are being promoted all over my feed. I thought I was a bit of a street photographer. I’m not even out of the gate compared to you. I’m not binge watching because there is simply too much valuable information in each video to mémorise. LOVE the way you present, explain and speak in such a calm unexaggerated way. Brilliant

    Greetings from Singapore. I lived and worked in Salford in the early/mid 80's, just as Salford Docks were being flattened. It was bleak, and little recollection of sunshine. I photographed the docks and a rag and bone man. Obviously its changed a lot....

    I've never been to Manchester, but watching this video of you walking the streets and doing street photography showed a few structures and buildings that are very similar to Berlin's streets. I live in Berlin. The shots under the rail bridges are so like a similar structure in Yorck Strasse Berlin. Those lovely boxed in oblongs of sunlight between each bridge make an easy frame that can work well with the brickwork. Cheers for the great video, and good commentary. Sean

    I feel like when the scene is right but the shots are wrong (such as the tree area).. for me it really helps to step back and approach it as a cityscape instead. Let the setting itself be the subject instead of finding the composition within it. A lot of the time, when seen from a distance, it becomes part of a larger story. Just my two cents.

      @@timjamiesonphotos I’m in a personal battle of 35mm vs 50mm ( the full frame equivalent). I am leaning toward the 35mm (ie23mm Fuji) because I think I prefer to capture more scene. I guess the fun is in trying things out 😉

    Hi great vid and pics! What settings do you find yourself shooting in for this type of street photography, especially scenes with harsh light and deep shadows? Full manual? I am assuming you're shooting with the X-E4 (by the looks of it..)?

    • @timjamiesonphotos
      @timjamiesonphotos  Před 11 měsíci

      Hey mate! I tend to pretty much always use full auto (I’m a control freak haha) but occasionally use aperture priority. And yeah X-E4 😁

      @@timjamiesonphotos oooh cool didn’t expect that - how do you expose for the highlights in full auto, won’t the camera try and expose for the entire scene?

    I think i could read your street photo styles with using reflection framing, colour contrast. Since I'm using smartphone and main lense is equivalent to 26mm, some of your tele shot cannot be applied to mine unless i risk the deterioration of picture quality

      I often use a wide angle lens and still make photos that are abstract, use reflections and colour contrast :)

    Hi Tim, just curious to know did you have to ask permission from those people you took photos of or is it ok to take pictures and use then because you are out in public place. It'll help me to know while I'm taking pictures. Thanks

    Some good advice here, especially about shooting in different light. I noticed that all your photos seem to be at eye level and most had subjects walking away from you. They would be much better when facing forwards.
