14 April freezing lambs- Robots get a roof- farm action

- Bit of all sorts today dad comes to out a roof on the robots boys land to block the bulk tank in, trough explanation because you have all asked what the crack is with the height of the feeding area, sheep fun, doing what they do best and throwing down in a field because of the weather, we do our best to save them, hungry lamb and mastitis
in 2009 i had no experience of farming or the realities that came with it. That soon changed when I met my other half Roy, I had a job as a carer and in every spare moment threw myself into farming. I had only ever driven a Nissan Micra and had experience with horses, I learnt the hard way as nobody had the time to show me and soon after arriving I found myself mothering on calves to three quarter bred limmy cows. We spent every available moment on the farm between our day jobs. Fast forward to 2016 two children later we moved into our very own farm overlooking the northern Pennines, Laitha.
we are in a transitional period at present and will finally be milking cows and making the final switch later this year, after years of planning and implementing infrastructure we will be milking 120 Jersey cows on two Lely robots. This will be a huge change and a steep learning curve
I will be taking you all along for the ride so hit that subscribe button and see you every other day for farming vlogs.
I am overjoyed to be a farmer. I feel so fortunate every day to wake up and do what I love and even better share it with the world and hope it inspires more young people from Preston to spread their wings and think outside the box the world doesn’t need more childcare workers or hairdressers it needs more farmers.

Gooood luck with the moooove of the Robots.
Good luck with the pet lambs.😊
Can’t wait to see the robots going in. You probably can’t wait until they start milking to start putting money in the bank. Thanks for taking us along.
Well spotted on Spotty Lamb and sorting it on the spot. Spot on.😅
Great to see your Mum and Dad getting involved! Say hi to them both from Katherine and Michael in Perth xx Your place is looking awesome Charlotte.
So excited to see you put ROBOTS in position

Love the chat given too the lambs, we are not like that around here! Wind tunnel maybe plant hedging around to bluffer the wind around rather solid wall? Great blog hopefully you will be able to cure udder trouble
Another sublime video. Lancashire Lamb Box looks good. Ta.
If I were you, forget about the conveyor belt for the silage get a digger to make a big hole and fill the side of the shed so the feeder wagon can do it
Top tradesmen great quality work
The great ones make carpentry look easy
Keep them coming! Hi to dad
Great video as always Charlotte
That she is becoming a masterpiece kiddo 😊.
This venture of yours must be costing a packet. I hope it all works out well for you.
Love watching your videos of the journey into dairy, as someone who has no knowledge of robot milking and has not milked a cow since in college 50 years ago I have a couple of questions I hope you can answer. 1 how do you train cows to go into robot for milking thinking of heifers and bought in replacements? 2 what about newly calved cows are they milked separately or can the robot be programmed to not to put their milk into the tank? 3 how is mastitis detected and treated and the milk kept out of the tank? I hope these questions have not been answered before and I am wasting your valuable time asking them again. Keep on smiling and making enjoyable videos
Two parents in two days, something important must be going on!
Ask conservatory companies if they have any old windows Charlotte
Well done with the lambs. Are the door handles near the robots going to be 'Cow Proof'?
I’m assuming little spotty is staying. 😊
Just a thought how are you going to get into the bulk tank in my day you had to give them a good scrub down every once in a while ( A trapdoor door into the office floor maybe)🤔 Cheers 🍻
Well done Charlotte on how you are caring for the Lambs, and the shed is looking great too.
Shed is looking proper smart Charlotte its been an adventure from start to nearly finish 👌
Fantastic progress on the shed and a great job with the lambs Charlotte
Aww, nice to see dad is on the farm helping. Hi 👋 Charlotte's dad x, and have I missed a video or something? Where did all them pet lambs come from 😂 I can't wait for the next video for the big move, might a strong drink to calm my nerves while I am watching you 😂😂
Can’t wait to see the robots in and working. Ps you may have to tie down the cows with that wind. 😊
The Cow 🐄 Barn has become a Big Wind 💨 Tunnel… Almost becoming an Aviation update 🤣… I’ve seen some Farms use a Thick Plastic Tarp for Roll Up Doorways… ✌️🇨🇦
That is OSB board - smartply is just another manufacture of it
So the Shakespearian performances have officially begun, how much do front row seats cost?
Super progress Charlotte....can't wait to see the coos in!
I really am so proud of you Charlotte ❤
Thanks trace your always so kind x x
Great video Charlotte. They are good brick layers. I hope you can find a window for the office but I’m sure someone could give you a free one for free advertising 😉. Fingers crossed for Monday
maybe you should put some celotex or loft insulation between the joists in the office before the floor goes down , possibly gonna be a pretty cold office in winter with no insulation anywhere ? the walls you could insulate later if required with an internal stud wall , but the floor would be a pain to take back up
Hello there. You are chucking concrete formers away. That a bit wasteful. You might be able to use it for somet else. You never know.
Shed looks good girl! Won’t be long now! I’m sick of trying to keep lambs alive at this point. Regards from Ireland
Mate honestly I’ve had THREE THREEEEEEE WITH MASTITIS TODAY!!! only good thing about the weather is the lambs are inside and I noticed them standing all hunched up if they were outside I’d have missed them thinking they were just cold!!!!!!!
Awesome guys cheers 👍🏻
You are awesome lol with those baby lambs. 😂
I try
1 of our large supermarkets here in Australia, are putting an ad to your video. Totally cool!
NO WAYYYY THATS crazyyy
Its all coming along nicely. wont be long now. I was answering you about the lamb looking hungry, Hubby looks at me and says, since when are you a farmer. lol. Take care. Witchy
ERRRRR you are totally a farmer as well now!!! We are all in this together 😂😂
coming together well great video misses
❤
IBC above a control room is risky as I have had to deal with a leak into a very expensive and critical control room before!
That’s what Lely recommend 🤌🏻🤌🏻 I am not the expert
When you get to 25k subscribers you need to celebrate 🍾 somehow.
Did the poorly lamb you took in from the field make it?
The spotted lamb is amazing looking wee thing.
What hoof trimming crush are you getting? In Ireland, the robotic farmers like yourselves seem to favour the table type, using them for tubing cows, be it for mastises or drying and will do the pre drying off hoof trim at the same time as dry cow tubing.
what a pollarva though isn't it..........all that work .......all that expense ........just to sell a bit of milk........it is though isn't it, when you compare to beef or sheep farming........you can start up in beef or sheep with far less capital outlay. you will need to keep that wind out .......things will freeze up otherwise in a cold spell
Forgive me, suck eggs etc.
If you had a decent wood chipper you could use it for all wood : Hedge cutting, branches, packing wood, shuttering maybe even cardboard, all to be chipped for your biomass heater in winter ?
Free fuel.
The concrete residue would blunt the blades very quickly.
We have been looking at them actually it’s a good plan think you would clear up faster if it was chipped in a pile
your gonna need to lock the doors on the milking machine rooms the cows will get in there otherwise
first first first ❤
Have you finished lambing now
Yes only a handful left :)
Them heat lamps really isn’t no good get you hair blow dryer or heatgun
First
Well done, I salute you 🖖
I’ll give others a chance for the next few videos and we can all have a rematch then 😂
Hi Charlottes Dad 👋👋👋 I'm Charlottes annoyance lol 😂😂❤
First❤
What are you using on the mastic before smoothing it Charlotte?
Nothing I’m just wetting my finger
@charlotteashleyfarm if you have an empty spray bottle put some washing up liquid and water in it and spray that on it, it's easier to smooth out. Try a bit first though just in case it's a mastic that doesn't like it.
Can’t wait to see the robots going in. You probably can’t wait until they start milking to start putting money in the bank. Thanks for taking us along.
