    When I saw Dave trying to feed unshielded USB cable next to a live 120 line, I said "oh boy!" Then, when he did a blind drilling above the live electrical outlet - I almost called 911 to make a reservation for him at a local ER.
    I'll bet the Home Depot tool rental department has a picture of Dave nearby that says, "Do not rent POWER TOOLS to this guy!!!"

    Hi Dave I installed my Wyze cam v2 by the front door in Oct also under my Eaves where it is well protected from the rain and snow. I live in Western Canada where we get a lot of rain and it is snowing as I am writing this comment. It has been below freezing a few times this winter and the Wyze Cam is working well.

  • @dannymcneal
    @dannymcneal Před 5 lety +53

    The 14-day recording and the 32GB micoSD card are two different things. Wyze gives you cloud recording of 14 days of approximately 12- to 15-second video clips of events picked up by your WyzeCam. You can setup your local recording to the microSD card for either continuous recording (which fills it up in several days) or event recording. If you choose continuous recording, the WyzeCam will erase the old clips with the newest clips. This is a great feature, because if you’re notified of an event, you might not capture the actual beginning of the event, depending on the sensitivity level you have chosen. However, if you have continuous recording enabled, you will be able to rewind earlier than when you were notified of the event. I have two WyzeCam Pans, and both are set to continuous recording. Later this year, Wyze will be releasing “Wyze MaxDrive,” which will give you redundant video recording storage. For example, if someone steals your WyzeCam, you might pick up the perpetrator on your inside hard drive. Wyze is also said to be releasing a true outdoor camera later this year. I’m hoping they’re released before my next big trip. Good luck!

    The last reviewer really got it wrong . The drilling next to the box was correct it was a surface mounted box and looking into it
    you can see were the 110 v entered it . It was very obvious the wiring entered from the right side and he drilled on the left side
    of the peg board which most likely he installed . The USB connector on it is used for 5 volt DC power only, NO data. I have done
    a number of outdoor installs the wire is 2 pair ( red, yellow, black, and white ) I cut the wire and splice it after it's all mounted this way you can
    drill a very small hole . Dave very good video maybe Thomas should have his pic on the poster at Home Depot .

    I have done this and know that camera will survive and will serve you at the best.
    Among the cheap IP security cameras, this little on is MY FIRST choice and I have been well cheated by numerous Foscams to no name direct Chines sellers ones. Period.
    You can't go wrong with this little one quality you get is highly exceeding what you pay. Best bang for buck. @ 1:01 Wasn't it better to run a simple bare 110V line (Easy to pass through small hole), to high level, form side of your socket that has screw attachment for extension, then place the entire adapter over the top, in a small electric box, away from accidental disconnection etc. Also a possibility to increase the number of cameras easily, if you need to see the right side or direct front of your garage with 2 additional cameras?
    BTW Love your videos Dave and good to see you again as I didn't come across any new production from you, for a while. Bell is click for "All". Thanks for the good job as always.

    @markd5067 Před 5 lety +1

    I purchased 4 Wyze Cams over the past several months. In that time, one of the cameras lost its IR capability and none of their mic talk functions ever worked. When I contacted support for the IR issue, it took a week for support to respond and then only to tell me what I needed to do to troubleshoot their problem camera....and it was a lot of crap to go through just to troubleshoot something that should have worked longer than a few weeks. I didn't feel that I should have to deal with that so I asked for a swap of a new camera, but again, I would have to jump through hoops to make that happen. I make decent money as a business analyst and considering the time and effort it would take me to fulfill that request, along with the cheap price of the camera, it wasn't a cost effective swap for me. There were other issues such as frequent audio blanks in addition to obvious omissions of things the cameras should have recorded like deliveries being made at my front door. In my opinion they rolled out this product before vetting all of the basic functionality which would explain why many many other Wyze Cam owners are having the same issues. The upside to this product is the function over cost. I consider these disposable products and do not recommend them in critical areas as it isn't a reliable product...short or long term. Spend more money for a reliable product and peace of mind....

    Water is just one concern. Bugs like to lay their eggs in places inside electronics. Dark, warm and nice. They secrete gooey liquid that shorts out the camera. Duck tape over any open ports to reduce the chance of this happening. Spring will be there soon. Good luck!

      I have many copies of this camera and beside loving them, they all over heat. Covering the vent slots can have significant untoward effect, IMHO. I would cut a bottom of regular plastic water bottle and use it for housing to make it impermeable to water (as much possible) then I would not care much about the bugs in back of the camera but the bugs that come to front, especially the spiders who make net due to attractive IR night light, being visible to bugs and would bring a huge number of them to the location in summer months, would be my only bug concern cuz they block your view.

    If are worried about water getting in thru the top just get a large clear plastic cup. Cut just enough of the side of the cup so it slips completely over the camera base. Leave enough of the bottom of the cup to adhere to the surface via 2 sided sticky pads. Also cut enough of the height of the cup so it hangs over the top of the camera without obscuring view of camera. Use the 2 sided sticky pads to attach bottom of cup (upside down) to surface. Use a big enough diameter cup so you can still rotate camera once your "plastic shield" is installed. Cheap and easy. Infinite variations of using clear plastic to act as a rain guard.....

    Don't they sell an outdoor housing for this Wyze Cam V2? I think it would help protect you from the rain than no protection at all?

    Couple years later mine is getting a beating. I notice the color has a pink tint to it now. See if it survives this winter.

    Did you check to see if there were wires behind the board where you drilled? If so were the wires hot? Or did you turn off the circuit breaker?

    The big port on the camera is to Daisy chaining them together with just one power supply. Let us know how long it survives outside. 👍🏽😊

    What state do you live in and how is it holding up so far? I live in Florida and I am wondering if the heat and rain will damage the camera.

    Do you know what's the max micro SD card capacity? I know on the official Wyze cam website, it says up to 32gb, but I want to know what's the max. Also, for continuous video recording [with micro SD card inserted], is it true that old videos taken on the camera gets replaced with new videos after the camera runs out of space? And when this happens, does it replace everything or just a few? Lastly, does the camera allow you to access the files via WiFi or mobile in any way without having to pay a fee [if so, how much would it cost and can you access those files via WiFi from the micro SD card itself, rather than using cloud storage] or subscription?

    Not sure if you did a follow up video after an year for the wyze cam outdoor installation. Is it holding up well?

    Can you do a video just like this but with the Wyze cam v3? This is the kind of video I need but can't find one for v3 and you did a great job!

      If the location of "Back" is that of camera, Big time NO. This camera warm up a lot and you don't want to mess up with ventilation fenestra on the back. You can keep it under a shade to prevent water entry though. I had no problem with insects or dust.

    If the camera goes out, Wyze has announce an outdoor model to debut in 2019. I’ve had 3 outside for a couple of months and 2 more to put out soon.

    4:41 No that big USB (Female A socket) is to power your next camera that btw can feed another one. So I saved you more cabling, if you need to add more cameras to cover entire field.
