I'm dealing with a particularly nasty outbreak of lice on cattle in one side of the slatted shed. Yesterday I used Butox pour on along their back. I notice 24 hours later they're still licking and scratching. I can't see how the pour on stuff can actually work at all - they recommended dose is just 10mls along the spine. 10mls seems practically nothing for a big animal. And it went along the hair because I didn't clip them. Don't know how the stuff can possibly work but I followed the instructions on the box. Surely the lice in other parts would just spread ? Or does the treatment itself spread through the skin or/and hair? Just thinking would a knapsack sprayer with a lance do the job too for sprayon?
Like Sheep dip? Havnt used it. I think it’s going off the market too. Pour on is a waste of time only kills mature like. 4/6 weeks later your back to square one. And 10 times the price to do per head
@@gerry6420 Ya sheep dip Gerry but there's a summer dip and winter dip. Think winter one more for lice ,tics. Etc and summer one more blow fly ,maggots, not full sure doe. Heard of few lads using it. Use to find taktic great job
That's a terrible time of the year to catch lice, plus getting the cattle all wet in the middle of winter. Do they have lice,, or you're just preventing? Is that because they are in such closed quarters as well. Amazing when things works good they go off market. Been there done that too. 🐂👍😉🇺🇸
Neusa C Luce is always an issue for cattle housed inside. You see them licking and scratching.... small patches of hair starts to get rubbed off. Makes them a little uncomfortable. This just stops all that. If you only had 5 cattle in the pen.... they still get the lice. It’s funny like that. Yes you have to be carful when you do them. We done them today because it was rather mild and no wind. Don’t want them getting sick. In any case.... 2 hours later they are dry 😊👌.
@@gerry6420 The disadvantages are the dust. It is neither good for man nor beast to breathe it in, it is much more messy and not as easy to apply to cattle from a coverage point of view. However, it is very effective in a building and back in the old days (even before I was a lad) lime washing the inside of buildings was (and still is in my opinion) the best way of killing bacteria, mites and insects.

Hi gerry. Im building a shed similar to yours there. What distance did you put your feed trough for the diet feeder from the barrier. Going to leave provisions for it when doing the concrete work.
John Crimmins in old shed left feeding passage 18 foot. New shed it’s 16ft. And I’m sorry I didn’t leave it 18. When you have feed boxes each side it narrows it in Feed boxes are 2&1/2 foot wide. In old shed I angled them out a bit. Which was a great job. As I said sorry i didn’t replicate it
@@gerry6420 thanks for that gerry. Getting ready to concrete next week so going to leave sleaves in the ground so if I want I can do what you done for the feed boxs. I went 20 ft myself for the feed passage. That extra foot or two makes a huge difference.
