IF is a miracle in my life as well! For a little while - a few months - I have been having 2 smaller meals within a 4 hour window but I do not like my results or how I feel as well as OMAD so I'm transitioning back to OMAD again.
Isn't he just amazing!!!! I finally "got it" why I could feel hungry and why I couldn't access my stored fat .... once I got the science even partially .... things were much easier. Congratulations on losing 40+ pounds!!!!! :)
Wow! Another reason to enjoy your videos! I have been on an intermittent diet for almost 2 months. I also went on the keto diet after finding Dr. Berrys videos. I also watch Dr. Berg and Dr. Fungs videos. Love all 3 of them! Dr. Berg is full of wonderful information and is so relaxing to listen to. 😌
I used to fast when I was in college thirty years ago. I didn't know about the science, but I just felt better and had energy. I returned to OMAD recently after a big weight gain and lost 50 pounds. I am a lifelong vegan and also like KETO. The energy I get helps me to paint and the minimalist view extends to all other parts of life. It is truly the best health management tool and I have tried almost everything. Congratulations on your progress. Nothing is better than having energy to create!
Hi Spirit's Gyre -- I have to step up my nutrition ... I'm still doing really well with my consistent intermittent fasting and I'm going back to the OMAD now as I have seen that it really is the best for me ... I had tried a more open 4 hour window experiment but it can create issues. :)
I come from a family of "in shape" but after hepatitis A at 9years old and ignorance that salt was bad, sugar good for liver 🙄, I was obese till my 24. Tried all diets, aerobics, medicines, but only comon sense of knowing which food isn't healthy, Fasting and understand that I over eat because I'm looking for love & acceptance from others. Once I turned that to love ME, very very slowly but finally I got to a healthy weight and self-steem. BUT...this is a constant checking myself because life isn't always A Happy Party 24/7 Even on the edge of watching my 14years old yorkie girl doggy's last breath on Earth...I mustn't find comfort in over earting or not eating anythg. Thank you for sharing; your hard work and seek for a healthier life, molds in you a beautiful soul🌹🥰
Hi Nick's G -- oh it can be so difficult ... when pets and parents struggle and we deal with loss ... those are times stress is so high that comfort in ANYTHING is tough to find. I came to a point where I realized all the chocolate in the world wouldn't even move the needle ... I wished that it would ... Self care has been a big part of my journey too and also staying strong against a lot of push back ...! I wish you the very best and my prayers are with you in regard to your beloved dog.
Ha Chris, thank you for this information. I like your fountainpen-video’s and came across your intermittent fasting video. I am going to read up and see video’s about it. Thanks!
I just wanted you to know I looked into Dr. Fung due to your sharing & success. I lost 60# since 2/21 at 50 yo & with a serious dx on medication that induces type 2 diabetes. I am not on medication due to weight loss & 18/6 fasting with no refined carbs at all. Dr.'s are very happy with all of my numbers & I am feeling great!
Caroline -- this is fantastic!!!!! Did you ever imagine that something virtually free and easy could have this kind of result!!!! :) I wish I could meet Dr. Fung ... he is the best teacher!!!!!! Congratulations on your amazing success!!!!!!
Intermittent fasting has changed my life for the better! Thank you for sharing these tips! I needed some encouragement about my ability to improve my health even more. Your video is timely and encouraging.
This is so good to hear!!!! I'm always amazed how something this free and simple can work so well. If you knew how much I spent in the past on books, workshops and etc ....!!!!!
I have been doing IF for nearly 2 years. I follow Dr Fung as well. The results have been good. Lost some weight and feel better. Congratulations on your journey and thanks for sharing. Minimum and maximum flexibility sounds awesome. This way you don’t beat yourself up if you “fall” outside your windows. We need to be more forgiving of ourselves. You have a generous heart! Thanks again for sharing your experiences and the tools you use for your successes. ❤️
Hi Claire -- thank you!!!!! Yes the minimum/maximum concept has helped me in so many areas ... I do with I could find Coach Kofi's original book source for that but I mostly understand it and see it as self created guidelines that can help us stay within a good frame whatever we're trying to do!
Hi Chris, thanks for the update, and those tools will be really helpful in a lot of situations! You know I found your channel when I was looking for information on IF. We started around the same time. You introduced dr. Fung to me and his book The Obesity Code was a true eye opener for me! Where no diet has ever worked for me, I have lost 20 kg with IF. Still want to lose a bit more 😊 I have thanked you before for all the information you share on IF, but I can't thank you enough so I'll do it again: thank you so very much Chris! 🙏 We also fell down the fountain pen rabbit hole (again) around the same time. Isn't that cool? I have watched your channel grow and I'm so happy for you. You are still the same wonderful enthusiastic Chris and I enjoy your video's very much 😊
Healthy habits. Good on ya Chris! I have found fasting to be a very powerful curative. In my forties, I once fasted for fourteen days. Water only. Amazing. At 72, I wouldn't do that again, but I routinely fast from Saturday evening to Monday morning and occasionally fast for 72 hours. I don't normally OMAD but often skip supper and never eat after 6PM. Live long and prosper.
Hi Cruising Lealea! I feel so great after the longest fasts so I can totally see myself doing even longer ones post-Pandemic when we get to that point. LOL For me it's easier not to eat the longer I do NOT eat. That was what really made me realize that fasting was the only thing that gave me access to stored energy. It's pretty amazing. It must have worked well in cave man days!!!!!
I appreciate you and your experiences. I have found that OMAD is cheap to do and very easy because I have to only think about meals or food once a day. However doing IF is difficult in my household and with my personality. I need to work on it because I know it’s a possible solution for me.
Hi Cocominga -- it was for the first few years more challenging for me because of my husbands eating and cooking patterns. I kept within my window but the smell of his food .... would really affect me but now it's incredible how it doesn't affect me anymore. I can't imagine how I would have done it back when there were 5 of us here. I did so much of the cooking then. :) I'm just so grateful now to have worked past the point of all the ribbing and picking I got at first by others ... they are not picking anymore ... I went from one of the biggest to one of the smallest in the family. LOL
Thanks for this! It’s a good kick-in-the-pants to get back to it. I did IF a couple of years ago now, and combined with low carb/high fat/lots of greens and fermented foods, it worked wonders for my PCOS and insulin resistance. Then the pandora happened, and with all three kids home all the time, I fell off hard. I won’t get into my lifelong struggles with doctors and weight and my relationship with food, but yes! If only I’d had more resources when I was a preteen, and even younger.
Hi Sara! It is so challenging with the chaos of the Pandemic and with family all at home! When there were 5 of us I was always cooking!!!!! I find that my husbands eating (he cooks too) doesn't bother me ... but at first it was harder. Good luck getting back to it ... ! I know you'll do great!!!!!!
An unexpectedly fascinating and insightful topic, thank you again Chris! I can certainly identify with aspects of the pre-OMAD Chris, and as an older person with a young son I want to do everything I can to be around as long as possible for him. Thanks for the resources, I am looking forward to researching more about fasting.
Hi David -- you're very welcome! I love sharing about the resources I've found and the unexpected help I got from something "free". I once paid $300 for a lengthy (several weeks) workshop with a psychologist where we were to heal emotional eating but it turned out that was NOT the issue. Although it was fascinating, it didn't prove to be the key. So when I heard about something that was completely free and natural I was even more motivated to give it a try!!!
@@ChrisSaenz13 Thanks Chris. I started a vegan diet during the first lockdown but that doesn't mean I am healthy, I'm curious to know how this impacts my blood sugar, and you have motivated me to try to figure out why I am hungry all the time. :-)
Jason Fung is a resource of mine too. I actually found him through another channel on CZcams called A Healthy Alternative - they have a wonderful online community, etc. They also advocate taking your health into your own hands. Cheers!
Thanks for this, Chris. I have been doing a kind of intermittent fasting that is 2 days a week (although I've been slacking) and those 2 days are limited to 600 calories. I do about 300 calories for breakfast and another 300 for dinner - which is about a 12 hour fast. That has been working pretty well.
Hi Terri -- oh this is really interesting .... I've read some in Dr Fung's book about this and have wondered about trying it in conjunction with a holiday (prior). I think it would really be good. A restricted calorie and fast for two rotations/days I might try prior to my birthday. Not that I'm going to overdo it that bad but it might level things out nicely.
@@ChrisSaenz13 It's useful because I have medications that I'm supposed to take with food and I do that in the morning. Most suggestions I saw about intermittent fasting seemed hard to fit my work schedule but the 2 meals/calorie count thing is good. It's 2 days a week, not every day, which is also helpful.
Hi Gail -- I've been so helped by consistently using the tool of IF. I don't know where I'd be health wise without it. Holidays can still present challenges but I was able to stick to my window and enjoy food ... always using the "delay vs deny" philosophy. In the past holidays often found me off track for months.
Hi Tic Tac!!!! Whenever I first start with a new routine I test it out a few times but stay primarily on the pattern I'm in ... then it seems like one day I'm mentally and physically prepared to try the new regime and it just happens naturally. Good luck! I find that lowering carbs and/or extending the fast interval are so powerful.
Good luck to you!!! The intermittent fasting lifestyle continues to work really well for me and I've done it for 4 complete years - now working on my 5th year! :) There is a lot of support and help out there on the subject these days -- good luck!!!!!!
To get a good ,”quick” taste of intermittent fasting I always suggest a 3 day fast. One 3 day fast . Even if you don’t continue with intermittent fasting the lessons learned from one 3 day fast will help in many ways. For me it was Wow , my body does not need a lot of food (fuel) but out of habit I crave it constantly.even if highly active. Also once you do 3 days 18 hrs seems a lot easier.lol. Thx for vid.

Hi Zen and Ink! It does resemble my childhood where we were expected to eat during meals and there was not nearly as much snacking -- especially evening snacking was forbidden. I also struggled with my weight as a kid too though ... from about age 8 or 9. I think I must have been sensitive to sugar even then.
@@ChrisSaenz13 yes! Snacking is a huge culprit in maintaining/losing weight and staying healthy-even on an 8-5 eating schedule…if I just stick to moderate, healthy, balanced meals and nothing else in between-much better! Anyway-I’ll keep you posted 😉…thanks for sharing!
I'm going through a discouraging relapse. I switched from 18/6 to 5/2 and in a month gained 5 pounds. Perhaps an upturn in depression has hampered my resolve - I seem to be bingeing most of the 5. Guess I'll go back on 18/6.
Hi Ichiro -- it could be that you need a steady unchanging pattern? I definately was worried about relapse if OMAD didn't work for some reason so I built in that minimum/maximum to revert to 20:4 if necessary. I told myself that would be perfectly fine. I forgot to say in the video that I lost all the weight on 18:6. I started to maintain thru the stress of the Pandemic with 20:4. It's definately true that we need to re-examine our plan and our data = food journal and notes to make sure we're going the way we want to go! Good luck to you!!!!!
