“A History of Motor Racing Part 6: The Champions 1949 to 1954” is a black-and-white film on the history of Formula 1 Racing by Shell and produced by Raymond Spottiswoode. Likely released in the late 1950s, the film addresses the growing interest in motor racing after WWII and highlights the new generation of Formula 1 racers (Fangio, Ascari, González, Farina, etc.) and their cars during the immediate postwar period through footage taken from Grand Prix races across Europe from 1949-1951.

My BEAUTIFUL DAD……..FRED FITZGERALD was a Race Car Driver himself back in the late 50’s and 60’s and NEVER Missed a RACE on
TV he lived to watch and went to many of them….When he retired in 2001 he built the first Ford Car himself and would Drive it in
Parades and just loved it and won trophies…. We still have his Car but I NO Longer have HIM and Miss him so much and Always on
Sundays when the Race comes on I know He is still watching but with a much better Seat 💺……

12:30 - BRM and it's classic 16 cylinder engine. And only 1.5 litre capacity if I remember right. The pistons were so small, they were like sowing thimbles - tiny! Silly high RPMs for the time. It was like a Swiss watch.

Classic vid. In the days when it was seriously dangerous! That accident in Le Mans, 1956 was it? Horrendous - so many spectator deaths mainly there. A pure nightmare.
None of these drivers were worried about not having rollbars.
I'm guessing... A lot of these drivers fought in a world war..less than 5 ago....thy could care less

The earliest history of Formula 1! When tires were skinny, drivers were fat, and they were more like a club event than the scripted pageants we have now.
