    If you've never had Vegemite before then you're certainly not going to get the right idea of it by eating it off a spoon. Best way is on some toast with butter, and then spread it on very thinly so you're just making the butter look browned. I find most people are very surprised how much they discover they like it when you introduce it like that.

      Little Vegemite, lots of butter

    • @henrycouchy
      @henrycouchy Před rokem +3

      yeah im never surprised when people dont like it because in general when you use spreads/marmalades/jams etc. we all usually just go hard out and use as much as you can, like if you LOVE jam, then more jam doesnt make it bad, but yeast extracts have this safe zone of butter-to-spread ratio, maybe we need to export pre-buttered vegemite

    The isotonic drinks contain (or at least they used to) a water purification compound, so that whatever water you used it would guarantee a safe drink. Not sure if they still do though.

    •  Před rokem +1

      Nope, the water purification tablets were seperate. The drinks are just meant to be used with recently purified water to make it taste less crap

    As an Australian, Vegemite palates vary exponentially. The most often favoured way to eat vegemite, Is definitely not off a spoon. You would probably use half of what was on that spoon to a slice of bread, spread evenly, with the bread preferably buttered and toasted.

    @nancypalmer6729 Před rokem +12

    In my experience with wildlife rescue, I’ve learned it’s best to keep seasonings with hot pepper out of reach of animals outside its natural habitat. During the process of grooming, an animal with pepper-based food on its paws or mouth can get it in their eyes, and end up blinding themselves trying to get it out. I recommend not leaving these in the woods, unless you’ve got a handy human to eat them. 😎

    Mate, former RAAF medic here. The small spoon/can opener tool os called a FRED - Field Ration Eating Device. We called it a fucking ridiculous eating device. The rubber bands are used to keep the large bag that the CR1M comes in between meals. The Vegemite should be thinly spread on the crackers as bread. The matches are actually decent. However, instead of using the striking face on the top, there is a rougher striking surface on the side (for the green tube ones). Most of us also just carried lighters when out field.

      That's definitely one common use for them. They pop up in different countries rations, to the point that I suspect that they are induced as they are so useful in general rather then being for one specific thing. They probably have been used just as many times as boot blousers then keeping a pack of chocolates closed.

    The new version of Aussie Rations or Rat Packs are a vast improvement of those over 30 years ago. I always carried a BIC Lighter & Swiss Army Knife in my pocket as we had to light Hexamine Tablets to boil water for the boil in the bag menu. The idea with these rations is that you have access to the Eat & Go snacks to provide nutrition as you march.
