This guy was special. He was one of my favourite players of all time.
Safin, I will remember. 1 Breaking racquets. 2. His girlfriends 3. Temperament on a knifes edge.4 Beating a prime Sampras & Federer
MrYoumitube what about his girlfriend?
@Les Moore check out his instagram, he's had a spiritual awakening. i was surprised in a good way!
Lmao wtf?! Sampras wasn't in his prime back in 1999-2002! Lol He was close to retirement...was forced out of top-10 and the only two courts he was still competitive on are at the Eimbledon and the US Open...lol Prime Sampras my ass...Now Federer on another hand...yes...beating Federer back then was impressive indeed i'll give him that! Especially at grand slams...
MrYoumitube He didn’t beat prime Sampras. He beat old Sampras.
@@Summon256 sampras was like 29 that time
139 km!
Safin: OMG Grand DADDY.
He hit 171km (106 mph) on his second serve, he wasn't really warmed up. I'm pretty sure he could reach 200 km (124 mph) or very close to it if he got nice and warmed up.
Dude didn’t even take his jacket off lol
no warming nothing . lol
He didn't take it seriously obviously
@@samexelby8715 he didnt even take some of his matches seriously. Lol.
Marat the great.
That an old joke:
God to Sampras: you will have great serve and volley abilities, to Federer: from everything i can, you will have a piece of that, to Nadal: you will be the greatest clay court player ever.
To Safin: well, i don't have much left, what i can do for you.. well, you can be me sometimes :-)
Safin had tons of talent. Fun guy to watch. Glad he won a couple Grand Slams. Is enjoying life after tennis, which is great.
Politician now...
he is a man with the great sense of humor
That 2005 AO semi against Federer was an epic match and I have that recorded down so I can watch it to remember how tough it was to beat Federer back then. Safin also was a big time contender back in those days and he really does have a beautiful serve and a two-handed backhand.
Absolute legend is Marat.
I still remember all his matches! His matches were all great and interesting to watching. Marat is my favorite tennis player until now
He is as handsome as humble. A great champion.
Its always good to see Safin...he is so affable..
"That time at the age of 30 you're a dinosaur" 😂😂😂😂😂
@eoe123321 things are different now because of off-court training, nutrition, therapists, ..etc. Now there is much more money in the game so it is natural you want to play longer..
Marat was my favourite tennis player of all time. He was an extraordinary talent. Great to see him back in Oz.
Marat is a legend! Irreplaceable!
A tennis genious, Marat, was terrific!!
Safin was a player whose best game was unbeatable.
Great tennis player and a gentleman !
He used to average 1st serves in the 210km - 220km range, i think he was just scared of breaking the screen and didn't want to pull a muscle, 171km for him is like a second serve
nah, in those clothes his muscles were probably so stiff. also warming up drastically increases serve speed
Not scared, he just wasn't warmed up. No one wants to hurt himself serving hard with no warmup. I bet if he warmed up good, he could hit 120mph even in that suit.
Truth be told: he was not even trying!
Fastest serve I’ve ever hit was 207kph but before warmup I would never even attempt to hit over 170. Too easy to get hurt when not warned up
He's in a suit. We're not in the Matrix you know?
That was hilarious! I really enjoyed that, because actually, if you go back and have a look, Marat was a FIERCE competitor. He had some amazing matches, and I remember one practise session where he was deMOLISHing the ball. I couldn't believe anyone could handle that power. Seeing him today hitting 170+ wearing a suit?! Really, really cool.
Yeah and he's way past his prime too lol. Safin was and still is a freaking beast
There were no footnotes excuses or distractions in Safin's win over Federer in the semis in 2005--best Safin beat best Federer with talent and belief.
Ken Truitt best Safin CAN beat best federer. Just like best federer can beat also best Safin. Great players, but the diference in consistency and adaptability its ridiculisly HUGE. Sorry about the mistakes, english its not my native language.
@eoe123321 exactly. And the point is that djokovic can also beat the best version of wawrinka. they are potentially very capable of beating each other in their both "beast mode". But the difference it´s obviously consistency.
Nice to see Marat again :) That was the era I really got into watching tennis. Also with, Rafter, Ferrero, Kuerten, Hewitt etc
like a BOSS - fave all time player right there
Didn't even care about showing off and doesn't even take his suit off. Could have easily hit one 125mph after a few warmups
Learn metric.
@@falsettogod5853 Up yours.
Omg I loved watching this guy!! Such an amazing player!
A legend no doubt!:)
He's in good shape...........good to see him again.
Definitely.
My fav player before Djokovic. LIVING LEGEND 💪
Still a charismatic handsome man, he was so talented player
it's incredible that he is only one year older than Federer!
That is incredible
Probably win a couple of rounds still too
Yet stopped playing 10 years ago :(
@@sasho888prm injury?
@@mememuncher1071 No, it's just that almost no one played past 30 years old back in the day.
Agassi and Hewitt played a bit longer but that's about it.
Love how his face lit up after the first serve.
Safin is smart. Look great....
Always liked the guy... Great player and character, too.
Get your mum there too. Lol lol lol
Sad that Safin retired that early. He´s actually the same generation as Federer, Hewitt and Roddick. And he gave Federer a headache in his prime with his controlled power tennis.
also a shame that roddick went very early too
he had too many injuries.
Federer and Djokovic have been very lucky and had relatively few injuries.
Also his sister Dinara Safina just disappeared off the circuit after reaching near the top of the game.
Lol. It's not his racket and it probably isn't stringed to his liking. Yet, he rocks up and smashes it. In a suit. Haha.
Haha yes, 170-175 is about my first serve. With my own racket. With my own prefered stringing. And sport clothing. And a warming up :D
NTRP 4.5 or so. And a bit older than Marat though.
Funkytrip73 lmao 170 mph??
Ankit Singh kmh hopefully
@@sciencecentral2972 170km/h . 170mph would be insane world record speed ;-)
Funkytrip73 Ik I wasn’t thinking for a sec 🤦♂️
Safin and Haas were my favs growing up!!.. You can imagine my disbelief when I turn on the telly and see them paired in the doubles!😁😂
doubles rly? Where and when was this?
I never saw someone beating better Federer than he did in that AO semis. (Federer was his usual prime self, but on the other end you had a guy outperforming him in every way).
Naturally pleasant guy.... doesn't even have to act.
Pleasant? If you call wanting to hit an umpire pleasant then he's one of the most pleasant guys around.
Eddie Shredder sometimes you got to want that. At least he doesn’t want to do it now.
the player most beautifull of tennis,,, aways!!! I love you Safin!!!!!
This guy is my idol
We miss you!
Marat is awesome player and unique
Love seeing him again.
One of my favorite players. Big server and big hitter. He could beat anyone in a single match but the tournament is all about endurance and fitness.
Agassi and Safin... my favourite old skool players.
back when roger wasnt really used to losing! oh i miss those days lol
If not for injuries him and del potro could have won more than 5 slams easily
he is cool AF and sexiest tennis player ever!
On his day he could beat almost anyone on the tour good to see him out and about
love this man!
Сафин очарователен!
I definitely enjoyed watching Marat play. The first time I ever saw him play was at the 98 French Open against Agassi. If I remember correctly, I think he beat Andre in that match.
A legend
@Release The Kraken predstavlja rusiju, slavensku zemlju
Legend
Marat was the HOAT (hottest of all time) - woof
Give him his racket and 3 mins to warm up and you will see 200 Kph easily 🙏
My fav player of all time
When Marat was on no one could stop him
Grand daddy! Rocking that serve cold in a suit. Not bad old man, not bad at all.
It's always weird seeing videos from 2020 that were NOT marred by the pandemic
Yes especially as this was late January, the news was getting more alarming by the day but I don’t think any of truly knew what was about to hit.
what a great guy
Marat looks great! 👊🏾🎾
My favourite tennis player!!
amazing player
People don't know this but satin beat djorkovic aggassi, roddick, Federer and Hewitt to win the title.if not for injuries and his love of partying Safin could easily be a top 10 player to ever play the game because he was unstoppable when in the mood.
Safin should have beaten roger in 2008 Wimbledon semis. Safin was playing amazing that day. He just did not believe.
I have seen the match...and I didn’t see federer in trouble apart from one service game in second set ...So I don’t think he would have beaten him ...
Safin, a great champion and also a pleasant and good company person...
great-marat-Safin
I am sure that he can hit over 200km/h easily but he didnt want to show off here.
Had so much game. But I also remember some absolute shocking, laughable performances against 100+ world players. But at his best Marat didn't really have weaknesses. He was complete and was expected to dominate after his US win.
He is the most beautiful male tennis of all time.
@EDKH He was in lists the most beautiful boy year 2002. But I don't see you anywhere.
@@panneetantinukul5658 Safin is still pretty handsome.
@@martydav9475 Yes! I miss him.
true. my ultimate crush.
Have been in love with him since the first time I set my eyes on this tennis player... Amazing fierce player with a temper to match
True legend!!! The best of all time
@Bijan Mehrzad Alot of commentators did use to say Federer is gifted then this guy is the next best on his day...
Those days this were 2 talented players.
@Bijan Mehrzad Definitely a champion that's for sure....
Лучший!!!
Marat -- the hottest tennis daddy in history~
He is the One
"I will try to embarrass myself" :)
Подача у Марата дай бог !
Safin❤️
Marat
Marat ❤ l miss you in the court 😢
Marat is the best !!!
🎾 I LOVE MARAT
2005 was a breakout period for Safin? He won the USO against Sampras in 2000 and was in the final in 2002 in AO
He is so charming!!
TJ! cilic and nishikori played in 2014 us open final
Марааат!
He hit the world record serve whilst wearing a suite. This itself is a world best.
The interviewer got a point wrong. After that the US Open final of 2014 was without one of the big three. (Cilic vs Nishikori)
I scrolled down looking for this comment
渋いな〜かっこいい!
Tony did a better job than last year
Отличное видео, Марат Сафин, сильный теннисист, если бы не травмы 👍🎾✨
Are you kidding me? The poor guy is in a suit and not even close to being warmed up! Are you trying to make him blow out a shoulder? He was a good sport about it, but that wasn't a great idea to ask him to serve like that!
He didn't try that hard. His feet didn't even leave the ground.
A tortured genius rests :)
Marat kept his hair but Roger didn't.... Game, Set and Match- Marat :) LOL
Roger looks like he's dyeing his hair a bit.
Marat(Murat) is a Turkic origin Russian player, one of the best talents in Tennis I have ever seen.
underachieving, talent... who cares, he has made his money and has had the best parties and esp. girlfriends out of all the top100 ATP players. Plus: he can walk on any street in the world without anyone knowing him or even dare to talk to him. I think he made some right choices!
Yeah, but the truth is every yime he steps to ANY street around the world someone surely recognises him and screames about it in social media 😅
Jemand: Definitely - and apparently he's wealthy too; good for him, I'm glad about that.
