    Full of Life, ❤️, humour...
So incredibly talented. He stopped Sampras, Federer and defeated the best of his time. Pity that his selfpresure and low selfcontrol did not help him to win many more big titles.
I will never forget his success here in #madrid, defeating Agassi (SF) and getting the trophy.
I got a picture with him, my treasure.
An inspiring Spirit of tennis history.
He left the ATP tour too early.

In my 41 years of age I have already seen a few players go through the tour and Marat has been the player with the greatest natural talent (He did things not learned) on a tennis court that I have never seen with incredible ease. He could have had a longer and more successful career but that was not necessary to leave his mark. Charismatic player with everything and his attacks of breaking rackets left and right but always loved and above all highly respected by his teammates. ¡Great player!

Without the injuries and with love for the game like the top 3 Safin would have won at least 15 gram Slams He was simply just that good.Safin retired at 29 after spending over 4 years out through injuries and another 18 months due to simply having a good time.Yet he won both the US open and Australian open beating Sampras in Us open final and Federer in the Australia open semi final. He won 2 Davis Cups where he played amazing tennis and was the main reason Russia won them.He Also won 5 Masters 1000 tournaments and he also 1 of only 10 -20 players to get to the Semi final of all 4 Slams.

Hard to tell. The technology has changed so much that it's really hard to think of how players from one generation would play in another, because players trained and developed strategies based on the tech they had. Those wooden rackets were best for a service and volley approach ... but does that mean that a player from that generation couldn't have learned the groundstrokes approach preferred today with the especially light rackets? Idk. And of course the change from the 90s/2000s isn't so extreme as that ... but even the technology Sampras was using would be impossible to find among players today.

Despite what he's won, Marat is still one of the sport's biggest "what ifs" alongside Nalbandian. Huge power from both wings, great touch, big serve, fairly quick and excellent shotmaking. He played such an effortless game, a true blue power player. Nalbandian and Marat were the only two at the time to take on a prime Fed and beat him handily. Marat had no less talent than anyone in the Big 3. If injuries hadn't wrecked him and he had more mental focus like Nadal, he could have easily added another 5-6 slams to his name. Nalbandian has the best two-handed backhand of all time, with Safin a close second. Alongside all that talent was a charismatic man, always fun to see him play.

Not sure if you understand how difficult and unusual this is. Fewer than 10 players who have ever played tennis have done all these things. He was also loved by fans, players and the tennis community, it's a big success for a kid with no resources from Russia.

Marat Safins Best would get him into the top 10 players that ever lived but 4 years of injuries, enjoying the women and good times a little to much and retireing at just 29 and still beating Federer twice, djorkovic twice in the only 2 matches they played, second match was the Wimbledon 2008 in the second round.Even though Safin got to the semi final that year and played well in beating lopez and wavarinka on the way, watch the djorkovic match because it was Safin at his true best for the last time.He basically won Russia the Davis cup twice because he won all his matches in 02 and only lost 2 in 06.Beat prime Sampras to win US open in 2000 and let's be honest if Sampras hadn't gotten the injuries he got he wouldn't have retired at 32 after winning the US open in 03.Safin at his best beats most players that have lived and given the greatest fantastic matches and beaten them as proved in Australia 05 when Federer hadn't lost a match since rollan Harris the year before. The man's a legend either way.
