MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE/MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYBODY!! I hope you enjoy this as the last Christmas movie of December! There was actually so much in this movie that was absolutely hilarious- it was hard to edit down, actually! I hope you all have a wonderful holiday! Stay safe ❤️
The Grinch outfit was so tough to wear that Carrey actually needed a pair of government agents trained in helping torture victims to get him through it. Unbelievable that he managed such a physical performance where he's able to become one with the costume and make it work with him.
something interesting i found out recently is When the Grinch pulls the sheet off of the table, all of the silverware was scripted to fall off with the sheet. Jim pulled the sheet off so well that when nothing came off he went back and ruined the table.
There's a theory going around when Grinch made the speech about the Who's throwing all their gifts in the garbage. If we think about it what if Max was said gift which is how he and Grinch met by rescuing him from the garbage dump
Still trying to 'wrap' my head around the fact that this movie is already 21 years old! Time Flies-like the Grinch's sleigh going downhill off MT. Crumpet
At 13:43 when he when’s back and destroyed the table setting after successfully getting the sheet off; was completely impromptu. When the table didn’t become destroyed he went back and did it himself 🤣🤣🤣
I think you had the luckiest fortune to have accidentally come across and watch the extended version...I watch this movie every year and never seen some of the scenes you reacted to. The maxxed out credit card, Cindy's school report, some dialogue bits between Grinch and Cindy, the lighting ceremony, the eggnog scene. Little scenes like that but help the story. The Whos' materialist capitalism, and Cindy's curiosity getting her in trouble, making Grinch and Cindy seem more like the only people in town that's with it, everyone else around them sucks.
Saw this film in theaters with my parents 20 years ago and we cracked up laughing! Lol! It got mixed reviews by Critics, but became a huge hit, making $345 million dollars against a $122 million dollar budget, and it won the Oscar for Best Makeup.
In defense of the citizens when the Mayor gifted him the razor, I don’t think all of them knew of the Grinch’s trauma since not everyone there attended class with him. They probably thought it was in good humor because the Grinch was so hairy. Hey! Get the guy with lots of facial hair a razor even if he decides not to use it! A harmless prank to anyone else.
Well Cindy knew. I feel had grinch gone to scratch the new car even a few seconds later, she would have called it the mayor for his disrespectful actions.
It seems to me, during the cheermeister scene, the only one being malicious was the mayor. Everyone else that laughed were just thinking it was all in good holiday fun.
This movie is so good, it's one of those that is appreciated more as you get older. The Grinch is a good person who isn't nice, and the Whos value niceties over being good which explains why Augustus is mayor lmao
The Grinch is so happy his heart shrunk a size and a half more this from all evil shenanigans he's pulling off to disrupt Christmas. Bojeezy this reaction was quite fun. Great work. Merry Christmas.
I feel like Cindy knew Grinch was stealing Christmas, but played along because she wanted to let him let off some steam, understanding he had a terrible day.
About 3 years after this movie was released, Jim Carrey had another film out in the theaters that is the polar opposite of this movie. It’s called “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and it’s my personal favorite film of all time. Like for me there is nothing better. It wasn’t as big of a hit as “The Grinch” but it did become somewhat of a cult hit where it kinda changes how you view relationships. Assuming the subtext doesn’t go over your head because it is pretty deep and hits really hard if you can follow & understand the scenario the characters find themselves in.
I love the way Jim Carrey sang the iconic song "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" while adding his own comedic elements to it like the hilarious sound effects. And his freak out when the sleigh takes off. "We're going to die!! We're going to die!! I'm going to throw up, and then I'm going to die!! Mommy, tell it to stop!!" Also, I really love how the actress who played Cindy Lou, Taylor Momsen went on to be the front woman and lead singer of a band called The Pretty Reckless. Also, I can sympathize with the Grinch, having been a victim of bullying growing up. I know the feeling of not liking people because of it. Side notes: I would *LOVE* to have Martha May's Santa outfit, her Whobilation gown and her flowing robe. (in my size, of course. I'm quite a bit taller and thicker than Christine Baranski) Augustus May Who is the true villain, and I never feel bad when the Grinch gets back at him for the years of torment by shaving his Quaker Oats mascot hair. 😆🤣
I know a lot of people rag on this movie for being terrible, but I think this movie is great and deserves a lot of praise. The makeup, the set design, the actors (Jim Carrey improves everything), how well the backstory for The Grinch was, and the overall feeling just like a Seuss project. It’s amazing
I think the mostly used the Extended TV Cut cause of Hulu's commercial breaks, around 18 deleted scenes were added to this movie, but still a hilarious reaction to this classic. A pretty dark and raunchy take on this story, but much better than other movies based off Dr. Seuss books. Also it's funny you say the girl playing Cindy was adorable, and yeh, at the time. She grew up to be the lead singer of The Pretty Reckless, where..yeah heh. Anyways, Jim Carrey just went all out on this role much like others, still pretty good.
@@OGBReacts Heh well is pretty lucky you came across it, they never really released that version on Blu-Ray at all. And for the girl who played Cindy, I was surprised too, heh.
In the animated short, The Grinch is voiced by Boris Karloff. The narrator of that animated short is also Boris Karloff. In this movie, the narrator is Anthony Hopkins. He does great with it, but I have wondered how it could have turned out if they had had Jim narrate the movie.
After all these years, what I do admire is how different and emotionally perfect how the Grinch regained his heart, found himself able to love again, gained a friend who gives him a whole family, and while he also realized how much Max wanted him to be different, he finally understands exactly what Christmas is all about when it comes to being with those that can still have ways to love you as you be along side them. No one should be alone on Christmas, not even the Grinch.
I love this movie. Jim Carrey is a genius. My wife can only tolerate so much slapstick and goofiness so sadly we don't watch this enough but I would watch this a ton as a kid and die laughing
Between this movie, Apollo 13, and Solo, I'm guessing you're really struggling to figure out what to make of Ron Howard. The guy just seems to be up for making absolutely any kind of movie, and in fact his immediate follow-up to this one, A Beautiful Mind, was an Oscar bait biopic that indeed got him both a Best Director and Best Picture Oscar. That's actually one I hope to request soon.
YES! 🤣 I mentioned remembering the name “Ron Howard” from other things I’ve watched but didn’t remember which ones, but yeah uhh definitely diverse directing this guy has!
If you've ever seen Gossip Girl, the actress that plays Cindy Lou Who, "Taylor Momsen", is the actress that played the "Jenny Humphrey" character. She does more music than acting these days though.
Jim Carrey made The Grinch pop for sure and i prefer this over the short animation, Jeffrey Tambor was the real heel, he was lowkey responsible for what happened.
When this movie was first announced, the big question was how this story could be turned into a feature length film. The book is the usual extremely brief Dr. Seuss story, which had to be padded with stuff like extended sledding scenes to even make a half-hour in its classic animated adaptation. And unfortunately, what they came up with was to make the Whos complete assholes, who the Grinch is 100% justified in hating, which ruins the entire message. Why are we supposed to root against him wrecking Christmas for these egotistical, materialistic jerks who made his childhood a living hell and sent him to live in a remote garbage dump? Luckily, Jim Carrey is so great in the role that he pretty much single-handedly rescues the movie for me.
I don't think the movie wants you to root against the Grinch. To me it always felt like the movie was showing that the Grinch wasn't ever the bad guy. Especially given this line that's near the beginning of the movie, "If the Grinch was so bad, then why did he save me? Maybe he wasn't so bad. Maybe."
You're missing the point. It's not about demonizing the Whos. It made necessary changes to the story for it to be investing, in the original the Grinch was essentially just a grumpy scrooge who hated Christmas because he didn't understand it. We've all heard that story one hundred times and it chalks down to "Mean man don't like Christmas, but then he do when people nice to him". What this film did was make it so neither The Grinch nor the Whos were fully in the right. The Grinch hated Christmas because he felt betrayed by the Holiday that preaches family and loved ones but he was made a leper for being different despite him being the only one in the movie to have created a hand made present for someone he loved. However while he was right to hate what the holiday for the trauma it caused him, he made it a point that if he can't enjoy Christmas then he should ruin it for everyone else too. The whos on the other hand love Christmas, but they've lost sight of what it's really about because of the Mayor's influence to make the holiday about himself, buying things to appear grander, parades to celebrate the Mayor as the cheermeister every year, and demonize the Grinch to the point where everyone it terrified just saying his name. But despite all that the Whos were very quick to let the Grinch back into Whoville just because of Cindy saying that maybe the Grinch is just misunderstood because he has no one to spend Christmas with. And in the end they weren't even mad at The Grinch for stealing Christmas (and all of their belongings), because he apologized and returned it. As a people they're good, they just lost the heart of what the holiday is about. And I'll address that yes, the classroom scene did paint the whos in a terrible light as it was meant to, but you can't base an entire town off of a classroom of juveniles and one bad teacher. But Cindy helped both The Grinch and the Whos learn the season is really about, but it all started because The Grinch shared her aversion to what the holiday had become. In a way the Grinch helped save Christmas from itself and it's honestly kind of clever.
You should look up the deleted scenes on CZcams for this movie. One of the shows how much chaos the Grinch really coused. When it shows him go to town for the first time. It's a same it was cut from the movie because it's hilarious. How much damage and chaos one little marble can cause. To the point whare the Grinch looks at the camera and ask one question. The marble a innocent child's toy or weapon of mass destruction. From that scene I'm going with weapon of mass destruction.
YES. One of my favorites ever. Soooo quotable. Jim Carrey (and Ron Howard) are geniuses! Please tell me how you're watching this extended version - I can't find it anywhere!

Looks like this is the extended version of grinch they released it on abc Every December It’s a shame we never got it on dvd or blu ray I would love to have the 15 minute extended on 4K
Pretty interesting you found the extended version, cause there's two scenes I've never seen - The parent meeting/classroom scene and the actual decoration competition scene. Which I can understand why they where cut since they wheren't necessary storywise.

I’ve been crocheting scarves for my family for Christmas while watching movies and these vids. In fact I’m working on an experiment scarf made of all the scrap pieces of yarn from bigger projects while watching this video. I’m gonna tie the ends and put it through the washer the way the yarn states it should work. Don’t wanna give scarfs to people if they can’t be washed without ruining them. Wish me luck! I’ll let y’all known when I do. UPDATE: Much better than expected! Colors cleaner, shape kept, and best of all.. it didn’t unravel! Yay! I’m new at crochet so I was so scared it might unravel.
@@OGBReacts It ended up much better than I expected! It didn’t unravel, it kept its shape properly, and the colors actually look better! A beautiful result.
17:22 Who would have thought a tiny little whoville car can cause such a big explosion. Also, you really can’t blame the Grinch for going amuck at the whobilation. You’re pretty much rooting for him than the who’s and when it comes right down to it, the mayor is the REAL villain.

I can tell you are reacting to the extended cut of Dr. Suess's How The GRINCH Stole CHRISTMAS (2000) that is only on ABC Family and I just wish that it would be released on DVD.
great reaction, i knew you'd enjoy the movie. also the little girl who plays cindy lou is now the lead singer of "the pretty reckless" the song "heavens knows" is my favorite of theirs you should check it out if you like punk/rock type of stuff. btw i love your sweater it's awesome

Merry Christmas Sam!!! Hope you have a good one and can’t wait for another year of awesome reactions next year! A small recommendation could you watch a knights tale? Really good film 😁🥳
In the scene where he pull of tablecloth it was improvise he was supposed to knock the stuff when he pull the cloth but he accidentally pull it so nice nothing fell that why he just messed it all up after
OK but WHICH version of the movie is THIS ONE? There are NEW scenes in this reaction that I've never seen before (and I have my dvd version basically memorized lol).
Movie trivia: they had to hire a CIA torture specialist to train Jim Carey to be able to handle all the ton of makeup and costume he was constantly under
There are scenes there that I didn't see in the film, is it another version? With scenes that weren't included in the cinema version? Cindy's scene at school isn't in the movie I watched!
Interesting, this includes deleted scenes. I’ve seen the deleted scenes before, but they were on their own and not actually inserted with the film itself.
I hate when people argue that Die Hard isn’t a Christmas movie. The argument is that just because it happens on Christmas doesn’t make it a Christmas movie but most Christmas movies aren’t about Christmas. One of my favorites is It’s a Wonderful Life and that movie only had like ten minutes of Christmas, which didn’t even add to the plot in any way.
Is it me, or is there a disturbing subtext that the Grinche were a race of people who were wiped out on christas by the original who settlers of this town?
@@emptycarousels3950 ll I'm saying is ask yourself; why was the Grinch the only Grinch child in the Who school when he was young? AND if he was the only grinch child in Whoville school why did the adult who's around him already hate grinch's?
Can you PLEASE react to these awesome movies next: KNIGHT AND DAY WHY HIM KILLERS MY BEST FRIEND'S GIRL GOOD LUCK CHUCK LITTLE MAN THE BABYSITTER 1 & 2 GAME NIGHT HOT CHICK LET'S BE COPS ROAD TRIP/EUROTRIP ROUGH NIGHT REPLI KATE SORORITY BOYS VAN WILDER And if you have the time & energy to react to a sitcom I highly recommend SANTA CLARITA DIET (zombie alert!) & WRECKED (Lost "parody"), both only 30episodes/20min long so you can finish both pretty fast plus they are just freaking brilliant!!!
GOOD LUCK!!
@@OGBReacts It ended up much better than I expected! It didn’t unravel, it kept its shape properly, and the colors actually look better!
A beautiful result.

Poor Grinch? More like poor stomach! 😂😂
17:22 Who would have thought a tiny little whoville car can cause such a big explosion. Also, you really can’t blame the Grinch for going amuck at the whobilation. You’re pretty much rooting for him than the who’s and when it comes right down to it, the mayor is the REAL villain.
To my opinion The Mayor of who-Ville is the Gaston of this movie
Chariots of fire was also used in the movie of Bruce Almighty which also starred Jim Carrey.
Awww Thanks Sam. I Truly hope you decide to Watch ("The Majestic") It has A Beautiful Part that we Need to be Reminded of as a Whole Community. We Love you, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Thanks so much!!!
Dr. Suess's How The GRINCH Stole CHRISTMAS (2000) won an Oscar for best achievement in make-up given to Rick Baker.
It's an aight Christmas film but I preferred the animated one, Merry Christmas Sam 🥰

@@OGBReacts awwww thank you doll ☺️
HEY!! sorry for not being here as much but Merry Christmas!!!! Love that your channel keeps growing!!!! Love the grinch :)❤
Look up "The Mean One" its exactly that, brand new
❄️🎄✨Merry Christmas y’all ✨🎄❄️
The guy who works for the mayor is Ron Howard’s brother and His daughter Bryce Dallas Howard’s plays a who.
Like Boris Karloff in the animated tv special I gotta say that Anthony Hopkins did a fantastic job narrating the movie
There is a fan theory that Max was one of the frown away gifts that the grinch found in the garbage , sorry if my english is bad I am swedish.
Oh no!! That’s so sad :(
Here's a great non-Christmas movie suggestion: "Guarding Tess".
You're welcome.
By the way, LOVE the Xmas sweater!
This was an awesome reaction vid. You're fun to watch movies with! I get the feeling your channel is gonna blow up with subscribers soon. Anyway cool video (Jim Carrey is hilarious in this one) and sweet sweater & hat! Lol
You're too kind!! Thanks so much, my friend
Merry Christmas Sam!!! Hope you have a good one and can’t wait for another year of awesome reactions next year! A small recommendation could you watch a knights tale? Really good film 😁🥳
Thank you! You as well ♥️
Eyyy! I’m super excited for this one! 🙌 Happy holidays Sam 💛
Merry Christmas! Can you also please react to Arnold Schwarzenegger's Jingle All The Way? 🎅
Funniest movie 🤣💚💚💚 LOVE your sweater! Merry Christmas!
Thanks so much!! ♥️🎄
In the scene where he pull of tablecloth it was improvise he was supposed to knock the stuff when he pull the cloth but he accidentally pull it so nice nothing fell that why he just messed it all up after
Is this an extended version? I've never seen some of those scenes!
It apparently is! I had no idea it was, I just clicked what was available to watch! 🤣
My favorite Christmas movie 🎄
Loved the Reaction!
A great underrated action Christmas movie you should see is Reindeer games 2000 with Ben Affleck. no one react to it yet.
You're actually watching the extended version.
Had no idea that I was! My bad
Not many see this one actually. Same as The Goonies there's an extended version to.
OK but WHICH version of the movie is THIS ONE? There are NEW scenes in this reaction that I've never seen before (and I have my dvd version basically memorized lol).
I watched this on Hulu! So many people said the same thing, but I looked this movie up to watch and Hulu was the first/main option for me to watch 🤣
I always liked this version better. Not only because of Jim Carrey but because they aged Cindy Lou Who up
Movie trivia: they had to hire a CIA torture specialist to train Jim Carey to be able to handle all the ton of makeup and costume he was constantly under
I love the Socks i have a Pair like those
I have that very same sweater.
YESSSS SWEATER BUDDIES!
Unanswered question is what happened to the yodeler?
… OH NO YOURE RIGHT 🤣
There are scenes there that I didn't see in the film, is it another version? With scenes that weren't included in the cinema version? Cindy's scene at school isn't in the movie I watched!
I had no idea that this was some sort of extended edition or directors cut! I just clicked the first available one I could watch haha
Interesting, this includes deleted scenes. I’ve seen the deleted scenes before, but they were on their own and not actually inserted with the film itself.
Sorry but even Anthony Hopkins can never replace Boris Karloff as the narrator of this story.
Number two in my list die hard is first then it's home alone 1-2🤗👍 (also the women the grinch fancies is up there with Jessica rabbit in iconic)
I don’t see it but maybe you can explain it.
@@emptycarousels3950 ll I'm saying is ask yourself; why was the Grinch the only Grinch child in the Who school when he was young? AND if he was the only grinch child in Whoville school why did the adult who's around him already hate grinch's?
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe and Merry Christmas ⛄🎄
Thank you! You too!

I recommend you check out films such as Chaplin (1992), father of the bride, father of the bride part 2, and father of the bride part 3 ish.
There are so many since in this copy you watched that I've never seen before... Which edition did you watch??
I found this one on Hulu! I had no idea I was watching some sort of extended version 🤪
@@OGBReacts That is awesome. I'll have to see if it's still up. :) 😀 Thanks for your amazing reactions. 👏
@@XenaWarrior24 Thank YOU for watching!
Can you PLEASE react to these awesome movies next:
KNIGHT AND DAY
WHY HIM
KILLERS
MY BEST FRIEND'S GIRL
GOOD LUCK CHUCK
LITTLE MAN
THE BABYSITTER 1 & 2
GAME NIGHT
HOT CHICK
LET'S BE COPS
ROAD TRIP/EUROTRIP
ROUGH NIGHT
REPLI KATE
SORORITY BOYS
VAN WILDER
And if you have the time & energy to react to a sitcom I highly recommend SANTA CLARITA DIET (zombie alert!) & WRECKED (Lost "parody"), both only 30episodes/20min long so you can finish both pretty fast plus they are just freaking brilliant!!! THANK YOU!!!
Have you seen the animated Grinch with Benedict Cumberbatch
I have not!
