Last year, an interviewer mentioned how the fans love her live vocals but complain her Label overproduces her songs. She smiled mischievously and said "I produce them myself." She says she loves pop music and is a big fan of Beyonce, Christine Aquilera and other "big belters". She has many influences and styles in her music.

Chinchilla is a force! The words on the Scrabble board spell out titles to songs (Fingers ( live!) , Fabulous , Shadows, Bitches, Awakening) but also Know No, Lockdown Getdown, Elements, Cold Water
I'm starting to really like Chinchilla, especially for her unusual style of songwriting and the beats she uses. I'm like you, I want dynamics and unexpected twists and turns, from what I've heard so far, she's got all that! I think she designs and makes her own hats and outfits as well.

I can see how it’s mistaken for autotune - she says it’s just the layers and when she builds it up in the BTS, you can hear it start to sound like autotune…so I believe her. Especially as her vocal talent definitely doesn’t need autotune, so why would she?
Yes, the vocal effect was a choice used for the effect. Chinny uploaded 2 shorts to her channel breaking down the production of the studio version - the layers upon layers of her vocals are just insane. This song became such an anthem of empowerment that she recorded a chilling, live version (Requiem) stripped back to just keys and backing vocals (be sure to read her notes under the video if you watch). Little Girl Gone came on the heels of an acrimonious breakup in 2022 with her former label and management - she’s said a few times that her rage got channeled into this song. On the strength of this charting at #1, she was reportedly able to get some good terms with UMG signing with Island Records and released Cut You Off - my new favorite and another one you need to check out! Ahhh, one of Ren's many talented friends. I listened to her lyric video before watching this, which let's one focus more on the words and her voice. But----watching the official video makes me want to swagger a bit walking down the street. Thanks Izzy! There is a busking video (Chinchilla's first time) of Ren and Chinchilla doing "One Dance/Drunk in Love" you might like. And one of "Sexual Healing", same night.

Thanks Izzy, great vid/track from Chinny. As others have mentioned, the live version of Fingers puts her vocal prowess on full display. This one is fun. She's a lot like Ren in terms of theatrical performance, uber talented artist.

Hi Kathleen! I have wondered about the name choice of Chinchilla. Let's see what everyone else has to say about it.
Chinchilla’s songs
are great for women empowerment. 💪 You’ll see the theme continue with “Fingers” and “Cut you Off”. I believe she wrote this one in response to dropping her label and going independent at the time. Then she heard from lots of women who felt they related to this song that had been or are in abusive relationships. So she did another version, more stripped down and no auto tune (sounds like she has a bit in the mix here but I don’t know that for sure). Anyone correct me if I’m not getting the facts straight. Glad to see you check Chinchilla’s music out. ❤

Dunno exactly what effect she's using on her voice at the beginning, but she did a couple of shorts about producing this track that are fun to check out. I get the impression that she writes 'in the studio' to an extent, so there's probably a fair amount of experimentation that goes on.

Aside from the autotune, which she doesnt' need, this song kicks ass. People use it all over social media, that's how I heard it in the first place 😁

Definitely an artistic choice with the autotune. I HIGHLY recommend the non auto tuned REQUIEM LIVE version of this song, which is COMPLETELY different and TOTALLY AMAZING!! One keyboard, 2 back up singers, and her.

I agree 100% on autotune, which is why I think the vast majority of music in the last 20yrs is not great, to put it mildly. We know Chinchilla has an incredible voice, she doesn't need it. T Pain is the guy who brought autotune into such heavy use, he thought it sounded cool & would make his music stand out. We're just now finding out he has an incredible voice! Check out the whole clip (as a reaction or on your own) of him singing Black Sabbath's War Pigs with a live band next to him, it's incredible.
