The amazing part is who would have known. Something small could have changed in her life to steer her a completely different path. For example, if the record executive never watched this video of her. I guess that's what makes life tremendously beautiful.
I love the way the blonde girl is doing the hand slaps with the audience like she was famous and she didn't know them.

Leon Jacobs at Belmont Intermediate does a phenomenal job with the rock band kids. Every year Belmont would churn out fantastic classic rock like this. Search for Intermediate Battle of the Bands 2009, you'll find some other good stuff :)
I am listening to a 12 years of age band and they are very good. what is going on here??? these THEY ARE 12 YEARS OLD!!!!! I own a LORDE CD and she was 16 when she released it. i have to give respect to these kids lol
Really interesting to see how mature she was at12. I would have guessed 18-24. Love her music, hope her popularity continues on over the years.
Even back then you could see Lorde’s potential... she has what is referred to as the ‘it’ factor - an undeniable stage presence and charisma, not to mention her genuine talent as an artist and songwriter which is the most important. Also, why didn’t my school have cool young people who appreciated good music like this? 😭

I think her movements are quite childish in this video, she was a 12 year old having fun, but now i think she truly feels her music,and her movements are what comes out of everything she is holding inside and trying to say through her songs. I don't think it's a way to win public or something like that, in that case she would do some cute little dance or something more attractive. Actually i think she acts very natural on stage nowadays.

i'm a new zealander and if you saw how some of our girls dress you would think they way older then they look i know i got grand daughters her age and they in their young ages but if dressed up look like they in their mid teens or older but most kiwis don't care what people think of us or how we dress or look

I got a kick out of this! I mean I laughed, but in a good way - like loving my youth. I felt like a sick old man loving Lorde, but to see the earlier Ella was good... for her to be singing stuff from my generation before making a name for herself makes me feel better about listening to her today? ...make sense? I like the vocals, the music (the simplistic electronica, the emo' aspect, etc. - it agrees with me... it makes me dance like a hippie-punk.

4:20 I’m guessing this was the song Ella sang that caught the attention of Universal Music Group label.
Although I can guarantee none of these young musicians would have known who RJD, Richie Blackmore or The Cult was back then, the energy in their performance comes across like they ran home after school to listen to them on an old worn out record player everyday. A good mentor will always keep the greats alive!

It was a inter-school competition so the stage wouldn't have been at their school! But idk how they were able to have instruments & resources for a band cos my schools' didn't!

Well she is performing Rock in this video rather than pop like in her album. I think with Pop it's a little more awkward to perform in general. It's just like a beat and that's it so there's not much to go off of.
