Wow, that snow sounded absolutely awful and icy
You're right - this was early in the morning and it was extremely cold, so it was a bit icy!
I like snow like that
Well it's better than piwder for me
@@sandrotabidze6726 Just keep working at it, you'll get there. Powder takes a bit to get used to at first, because it forces you to be a good skier, but once you have it down, powder is amazing. I have nothing against groomed runs, I probably have more carving skis than powder skis, but sun baked off piste is easily my least favorite snow condition.
v12tommy what do you mean by sun baked-off?
Idk what’s more impressive the skiing or the fact that the mic didn’t pick up not a single “talk to yourself” “grunt” “groan” “whistle” nothing...that whole time. 100% psychopath
Whats so impressive about walking through a tunnel on skiis 😂
Somewhere around 60 mph I would feel the need to fall down and scatter my gear across the entire mountain and spend the rest of the day in the first aid center.
Dozer1642 HAHAHAHAH SAME
Dozer1642 this dozer doesn’t feel that need
a good ole garage sale
Because you suck at riding.
@@davelarose8562 dude I doubt you could either thats hard
Pretty sure they used this clip to make the minecraft eating sounds
Hahah! Thanks for the comment :)
You said my comment a day earlier than I said it. :(
@Damn Skilled thanks for the reply :)
Nice r32
No smooth, soft, satisfying snow anymore :(
As a snowboarder I would’ve been pissed about the tunnel
Hands for Maps agreed
Thought the same thing haha
Did they leave that shit rope for snowboarders to drag ourselves up?
@@b0tch02 yes they are
It sucks to suck.
Some say that the snowboarder is still sitting there today wondering about his life choices.
@@idiotidiot5821 as a boarder and 1 time visitor to Alp d'heuz, I never once considered joining my skier mates on this run. Sure you can walk out the tunnel but why would you bother? "yeah cool, see you in the pub. No I've seen many YT videos and I'm not going to be the butt of your skier jokes" I will go and do one of the longest black runs in the world instead, don't feel sorry for me!
@@lennycook206 is it okay that I laughed at this comment 💀
@@jellycube6364 so long as I remember not to take your recommendation on which comedy film I should watch this weekend... Knock yourself out sweetheart and belly roar if that's amusing enough to you.
There are many pro snowboarders who did this run for even shorter time
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Did this many times 25 years ago, nice trip down memory lane. Thankyou. As someone has commented, you used to come out of the tunnel straight onto a really small ledge before going down a 45 degree slope. So not that difficult. I switched to snowboarding and have never been back to Alpes D'Huez, which although is very pretty, does get slushy (and then refrozen slush). This reminds me how much I use to enjoy skiing. Many of these runs there are too many flats for snowboarders which does limit one.
Every where you go there is an idiot on a snow board standing still in the middle of the best line for no apparent reason😂
@@timnor4803 he's waiting for the idiot skiers to pass 😉
Disappointed in the ratio of tunnel to no tunnel
Sig Bausage it’s just called the tunnel run cuz there is a tunnel to get to the run not because the run is in a tunnel
I was just here for the tunnel. From now on I will call every run the chair lift run.
You do that
@@spongeboyscub5546 What do you think if enough of us starting to use it? You know how products and companies and whatever love to promote their shit and use words so the average man understands. @@T3n50r fuck yes mate i just went on a sick charlift run yesterday 👍
I really needed you to go 75mph through a 5 mile twisting underground tunnel. 😕

Didn't even think about that xD
They just simply carried snow from outside
... and how does the grooming machine get in there ?
Others are talking about the tunnel.
Meanwhile Me: Nice curves, great skiing technique. Great speed control.
Everyone’s making comments about how icy this sounds but I didn’t even realize bc I live on the east coast lol
yee yee dude east coast got the most ice
We get similar conditions on some slopes in Colorado because of the rain shadow effect. It sucks.
Lol! That's great conditions for the NE
Dude facts, everyone shit talking the snow and im here like "SOUNDS LIKE HOME TO ME"
This is so true that's what a good day sounds like to me 😂😂
Sounded like he was skiing on solid ice. Not fun.
It's fun to me 😉
That sounded like some firm hard pack. But it lacked that beautiful (almost metallic) sound of New England sheet ice. And it wasn’t reflective enough. Snow like that on groomers let’s you really stand over those skis and rip some fast turns with your hip in the snow.
But in moguls it’s just pain hahaha and that sure sounded like a bitch to ride haha
Tainicon ice sucks
Famous Potato not if your edges are sharp enough!
But in all seriousness I have developed a strange affinity for ice that most sane people will never have haha
@@tainicon4639I agree! Ice is much better than warm and heavy snow that slows you down like crazy. In germany we call that Sulz.
The only thing “dreaded” about that is the icy hard pack. The run itself looks like paradise to this Ontario man.
As a New England Skiier myself, this looks like perfect conditions.
Stupidly Arrogant. 0:50 That's like driving straight at someone and swerving at the last minute. Downhill. On ice.
Totally unacceptable. Unless of couse you know each other.
Also from Ontario, also jealous of the run but definitely not of the ice.
@@DandiLionism Thats what I was thinking. Total disregard.
me who knows absolutely nothing about skiing: (gasps) THE tunnel?!?! i have to see this
I think the Tunnel got it's reputation as one of the most difficult slopes in the Alps about 30 years ago. At that time you came out of the tunnel and straight into a steep top section which was often moguled. (with no place to stand and plan a route) Often the unsuspecting flew out of the tunnel not expecting it to drop away and skied straight off the edge into other skiers causing carnage. Nowadays with that run out track after the tunnel exit I'm sure it is less feared.
Thank you for the explanation.
Why did I just read that?
Yeah the exit of the tunnel really sucks now. I remember being able to go out straight into the slope a few times (you needed enough snow), that was sick...
That may explain it. My parents warned me it was droping very fast at the end of the tunnel when it actually doesn't anymore atleast.
@@rizthon9824 That's how I remember it when I was young in ski. Now I snowboard and I would not do the tunnel
That sounds like some rough ass snow, good job keeping speed and control
I mean speed was there but control wasn't really there on the steeper parts... Just slow down and when you feel in control, go faster not the other way around
@@gillesputtemans he looked pretty controled
Where was the speed and control? I saw neither
@@ianholmquist8492 if you didn’t see speed... you are probably blind or very jealous. I can understand u not seeing the control but at that speed control dosnt have to look pretty

That was really impressive. I broke my leg just watching that here in Texas.
Damn I miss skiing, 2019 seems so far away
ice skating the dreaded tunnel run in 5mins*!!
rip to that snowboarder, bet it was a long way down on his arse with that pure ice
I had to laugh. I remember my first encounter with moguls on a board. Not pleasant, but I was a beginner then. You know that guy is reevaluating his life choices.
As I'm done with my ski career, that was fun and exciting. It really brought back the feeling of being on skis myself and that speedometer was especially interesting for me, because I always wondered how fast I was going , and never had a way to measure it.
Merci!
What a let down, looks like a pretty average run with rubbish snow
Bro i live close to there and this is the worst snow we never saw...
No such thing as bad snow, only bad technique ;)
Its looks like the single black bowl section off the peak that I ride. How does it have 400k views.
It's fairly shity snow but it looks like a fairly decent run pretty sure that's the end of the season that's why the snow is shity
@@DJZoysyusLP nope there is such a thing as bad snow
Those moguls tho, I feel the pain in my legs just watching this video Haha.
I like it I am professional skier

Leo Gardner nobody cares
As a snow boarder I would have died
Leo Gardner good you want a trophy or what? cause you’re not getting one
Yay! The perfect video when u can't get to your favorite mountain! Love it!!⛷
I've been on that slope several times now (mediocre snowboarder here), so I know how steep and dificult it is. You make it look easy! Hats off dude!
Alpe D'Huez mediocre or Breckenridge mediocre?
It's easy
Nonsense.
@mwoxo sure, for you it's easy of course, but not everyone is so amazing as you. 😘
@@Sirrah81 not amazing, just done seasons and some instructing. Good enough to know what’s what. I also know Alpe D’Huez but check out Argentiere, that’s steeper and deeper and much more challenging.
Haha love the snowboarder pull rails along the side.
We all make mistakes in life.
One of my favourite phrases
handcrafted30 guess your mum not swallowing was hers.
Hmmm on a snowboard i would probably use ski sticks in this particular case instead of pull rails.
But when riding on skis i never use them - and it seems I wouldn’t even need them in that tunnel too.
handcrafted30 haha totally
@@MaacAbra I would just unbuckle my back foot and just push myself through. Pulling on the ropes would take forever and tire yourself out faster.
that packed snow sent shivers up my spine.
Nothing gnarly, but a real aerobic workout in places. Thanks for taking us on the ride!
That was cool! What an amazing experience that must have been most will never know
The unmistakable sound I’d ice under skis fills me with dread. Loved this video even though it gave me “the fear”. 👍🏼
Haha! Thanks for the comment. It's definitely much more enjoyable when the moguls are a bit softer... I've had my fair share of crashes on ice on the tunnel! czcams.com/video/hC0xxtVtY20/video.html
There should be a sign: Snowboarders are f‘d!
I’m thinking about learning to ski for this kind of shittery and backcountry access
Wym?... you couldn’t make that on a board?Looks fast but fairly simple. Seems pretty well groomed with no unavoidable mogul sections

Well done dude !
I really enjoyed the video.
It reminds me of 30 years ago.
Thank you.
Oh man remember seeing this in my recommended years ago. This tunnel run is something special
I’ve done this run before - takes 10-20 minutes as a solo, competent skier, at least half an hour for groups, or beginners oblivious enough to end up ok the most difficult run in the resort.
Thanks for the comment Charles!
Why is it so difficult? Other than the terrible snow it doesn't look very steep or challenging at all. Might be the camera angle I guess 🤷♀️
@@rosemarybasse5498 its probably really steep, cuz cameras never show the hardness in that way, but i dont see a reason why that would be a challanging run with a good snow, lets just forget about that tunnel climb 😂
@@rosemarybasse5498 give it a go. I have spent my life time skiing and this is easily one of the toughest on peist slopes out there
@@rosemarybasse5498 cameras just dont represent the scale of large objects well. Where I skied as a teen, (dodge ridge in CA) the most difficult part of the mountain was called the "face rock", only the most experienced skiers dared navigate it, let alone jump off it. It truly seemed like suicide.
Recently I looked it up on youtube, the clips I found made it look like nothing, a little bump on the hill.
2:10 that snowboarder must be having the time of his life
A real one ! Thanks for the trip.
confidence at its finest
That was a great run. I love how you just skied it, not stopping for breaks along the way. The pitch on the top part of the trail reminded me of Outer Limits in Killington Vermont. The snow or rather ice conditions also reminded me of New England skiing. Great lines and great photography. I can't wait to hit the slopes this year if possible.
Why do the people at 2:20 look like they are doing the mannequin challenge ?? 😂😂😂😂
Nicknac93 ROFL yeah wtf is up with that??
Thought I was trippin bro 😂
Ya wtf???
Probably because those are mannequins
They're just literally frozen, happens if you fall asleep in the snow.

Thanks for watching!
I skied this when I was 11 :) thanks for the memories!
The snow looks chopped, bumpy and not much fun.
Respect. This is dope.
I like the cartoon at the beginning of the tunnel.
Those are some mad skills you have! Thanks for sharing.
Makes my small MN hills seem a little better when I see the alps with the same snow conditions
Sounds like a good day for us on the east coast
Wow, wonderful!
wow that was literally the coolest thing i've ever seen
That was some sick shredding... I’d imagine a person would have to be in great shape to do a ski run that fast... insane!
You obviously have no idea what you're talking about.
That snow sounds like straight ice
Amazing mountains and slopes. My knees say no thanks to the ice though.
I’ll stick to my nice soft powder snow in Utah.

What's so dreaded about this? Looks normal
Everyone saying “wow he’s such a good skier” and I’m just like “well of course he is his account name is damn skilled!”

You Rock man!
I never skied on this slope when in l'Alpe d'Huez, and now I am too old with knee arthrisis to try it !
But thanks to this video I now know how it looks like...
Looks like an awesome slope. Except all the pushing and people standing in the middle of hills. Stand on the flat parts. Not hills aahhhh drives me nuts. Great run though
No matter where you go people stand in the MIDDLE of the run and talk to there friends.

That drop at the end of the tunnel I would die 😆 how smooth he makes it look!
Very good video. I liked it. I was expecting the tunnel to have a 10 percent decline though inside where speeds would reach 50 mph, but as it was it was still a very unusual ski run. Thanks!

Stupendous! I did the same run in my one visit to the Alps ever, in February 1989. I was held up a bit by traffic above the bowl, so I took about 15 minutes to get this far. I continued at full throttle all the way to the village: a vertical mile in 56 minutes. Thanks for sharing this!

Damn Skilled Hit some rocks so you can do the full schebang and get the p-tex out;-) Man, that crunching noise reminds me of a time in Tignes when my board slipped on ice and I must’ve slid 100m down on a black run at 45° heading towards a bridge. I had to use my thumbs to bring my body round so I could dig my board in to slow myself down. 87° forever more!
That looks like fun!
