This game has really come a long way since release. Very cool to see you revisiting games like this. Rise to Ruins and then this. Definitely loving this content.
Yes i was playing it when it had the classic clans and was like a year old i got a pirate version of it now it has ton of new clans last month came the new clan of the Eagle :) i will buy it on steam next week now i will be legit! :D
I haven’t played in a long while, but the game is very easy and relaxing or you end up in Valhalla sometimes.... It’s worth the playtime you will put into it.

I don't even think "indie" when Northgard is mentioned. At this point its quality is pretty much on par with regular big studio strategy games. Visually beautiful, complex game mechanics and lot of clan variety. Also I would say some unique elements. Spent over 250 hours on it, and bought every DLC gladly.
EDIT: Also as some pointed out already, this is primarily RTS, rather than colony survival.
I mean, indie doesn’t have to be a small team.
I think of it more like a puzzle game 😅

"indie" is short for "independent developer" - doesn't have to be a low quality game
One of the best multiplayer games out there.
Nice slow pacing, no rushing & a lot of thought required to survive.
BTW, the AI does go to war with each other.
There's a pause button on the minimap.
Also, the clans and military XP trees are getting a major rework in the next patch.
I like this game's take on the rts formula, it's very much aligned with the Viking them imo and it sets it aside. I love the amount of clans adding up over time, lots of different play styles.

My wife and I have 100+ hours in this game, each. It's awesome and we love playing together or against each other. And the multiple, varied single-player campaign offerings are a blast. Buy it.

This is an amazing game, review coming really late. All clans are amazing but they have different objectives and bonuses which ask you to play differently unlike what splatter cat said.
But you need to know the game a little bit to understand why you'd want to play such or such clans depending on how you like to play. Like the Kraken's clan which is really amazing but it takes a while to understand what is so good about it. Some clans are more focused on war, other on economy and food, other are good in research, etc. There's really a lot of things to learn about each clan but at first sight, you will probably think they all look alike and think it's not worth buying them. Also, if you want more military action, I'd advise on removing victory conditions, most of the time, a game ends with a winner without even any player meeting each other with map victory and research. Knowing the map is also very important and getting the important spots.
This game is a gem for any strategy lover (especially when we do lack of RTS nowadays) and knowing the same company is currently working on Dune is very good news, they couldn't have chosen a better company to take care of Dune.
Edit: The music is also amazing ! I purchased the soundtrack without regretting it :D

I wish I could see his reaction to Vintage Story. It looks like another game, but it's the most unique survival game I've ever played.

I've been playing this game with my friends for a while now. Very slow, but very fun. I'm not a good strategy player, so it's great to have them to carry me lmao.
Had a ton of fun doing coop on this game, 10/10 recommend
I have a good 70 hours in this game.. my friend and I do the challenges? scenarios.. whatever they are called.. there is a co-op mission you can do and we like doing those together it's challenging and good fun.
Shiro Games is cultivating a very good reputation as a company. Northgard still gets routine support and new clans, Darksburg still receives updates and support, and Wartales looks promising.
Horse is basically your Dwarf clan splatter; they get a pair of super smith heroes.

@@Omidion there’s not really a multiplayer story mode, but there is a little campaign mode that can be two player. You get upgrades for each level you beat. I actually haven’t played it, I enjoy the skirmishes.

If you are looking for games to cover, I really enjoyed Age of Wonders: Planetfall. It came out a few years ago, but its still the game I play the most regularly.
The Age of Wonder series in general are hidden gems.
No smart pause = auto-ignore. Zero tolerance for stuff like that.

the MP in this game has an incredible scene and the micro/macro on high levels are HIGH. I rcommend it! go for 3V3s

Oh i loved this game, i haven't played in while, the game is nice, easy to play, have some good visual and have intresting mechanic.
I like how you revisit titles that have been out for a while. I mean, most games today aren't properly "done" until maybe three years or so after their initial release.

highly recommend the multiplayer scene for this game!
while it may not look like it, it offers as much complexity and micro in higher levels of play on par with AoE and such.
Shiro Games, the studio behind this game, are also producing the new "Dune" RTS which follows a somewhat similar formula, albit expanded.
I've always considered this to be a rts with survival mechanics. Not so much a builder game.
The AI will ALWAYS dogpile the player yeah. They'll happily lose to another AI if it means they trip you up.
Yeah, Supreme commander has this same effect except you can choose if you want a “cheating Ai” or not because they directly label which level ai cheats
I've been playing Northgard since it released, and it's one of my favorites. Love it, so fun and beautiful.
That the ai cheats realy makes me not to buy. Made that mistake whit sid maeyr.
Note that a lot of the factions are dlc factions. But even the base game is worth it!

on your stream you spoke about inscyption and not playing it much after leaving the cabin, if you don't take the item the wolf card talks about from the cukoo clock you won't leave the cabin so you can keep looping through just playing cabin, that's what i do as i didn't like the act after the cabin so much but really enjoyed the cabin

I wonder who is disliking the video? What's their reason? Is it because Splat put "colony survival" on the title because while the game is primarily a RTS, it does have natural survival aspects that if you fail to upkeep, you'll lose.

Anyway, as of this writing, the game is on sale. Honestly it's a good game, and the DLCs are worth it, but I would buy it when it's on sale, such as now.
Since youre saying it is slow, im suggesting an older game that i dont think you covered when it came out : Teamfight Manager

thing is, this game is a lot more starcraft than it is civ, in the sense that its built for competitive scene, and it does it really, really well. Love the game, binge multiplayer matches from time to time, and also binge youtubers streaming it
Do you only post reviews of games you think are worth buying? Or do you try and review everything? I'd like to hear a comparison to other similar games, and maybe how you rate them (some kind of scale).
FYI, I added this to my wishlist because of this video, and it went on sale shortly after. For almost the original price of the game, you can get everything.

I'm here a year after this vid went up. Has the AI been balanced in that time? I haven't played in awhile, and one of the reasons was the AI was just unfair.

18:53 Honestly, if the DLC practices didn't put me off, this part right here immediately did. If the devs cannot be bothered to create a balanced, capable AI that doesn't need to cheat, but are fine with selling various factions that are mild variations of the other, I'm no longer interested.

Those who know, know. I won't waste time writing a novel on why I think this way.
You can completely ignore the DLC. All it adds is other clans to play as. You get 6 clans for free with the base game. The DLC does not add any new content whatsoever. And even then if you do like the game you can buy EVERY DLC clan (8 other clans) for very very cheap. They are only expensive if you buy them one at a time. I think I payed 10 bucks for ALL the new clans. It's actually a very nice business model for an absolutely excellent game. It really is a great game, I've put hundreds of hours into it and cannot recommend it highly enough.
@@ghostlightx9005 The hell are you talking about. Right now, on Steam, all extra clans is $44.91. You're doing a lot of defending of this game, and you are sometimes right to do so. The game isn't nearly as bad as people say. With that in mind, this DLC model is 100% pure bullshit. The game costs $30. The DLC costs significantly more than the base game. Sure, you don't NEED it, but they shove it in your face every time you pick a clan. The DLC in this game is absurd.

I don't mind a DLC expansion that adds a whole new game with like 4+ chapters of content. It might be a great game, however I stand by my principles here when it comes to charging people even 25 cents to unlock a race to play as.
This is why I don't do mobile games and pretty much speak out against them as much as I can.
They are add machines, packaged as games to prey on young kids and those who don't understand they are the product.
Feels like a mobile gaming model.

I just don't like how that model is set up. But it is a personal preference. I realize some folks like to pick and choose what they want in gaming.

@@OldieWan How do you think they would do that? Increase game price every time they add new clan? They need money to create new content, so you are paying for it or not getting it. Can't think of a game that is being constantly developed free of charge.
seems like they nerfed it a little bit... I remember winter being much much harsher than that and I was never even remotely able to "cap " on food, considering how the penalty system was so strong all the time... Or you just had a very nice and easy game here.. dunno

I bought this game last year and absolutely cannot get sound and I havent played it. Ive tried various resets, reinstalls, driver fiddling, etc. On Win10. If someone has some solution please share it with me :)

modded rimworld could work,dont remember many games that do this concept with other races well,maybe age of wonders if you really want to push it
