I've never thought TLC was "better" than Destiny's Child or vice versa, I just think they were COMPLETELY different groups that really can't be compared. TLC was new, fresh, and a rare type of group that had a style we hadn't seen before. Destiny's Child was more like a modern day version of The Supremes. What both groups did that was similar is bring the South attention for being a major region for talent and both groups were worthy of appreciation for putting their cities (Atlanta and Houston) on the map. BOTH groups had lovely Black women who each had unique talents.
yeah but the difference between these 2 groups is that every member in TLC brought something into the group and could´ve really pull off their solo projects, while DC was mainly about beyonce and without her, the group is lost.
Delbert Jones tboz didn’t fail tho neither did left eye tboz only did one solo song “touch myself” and that song did good when it was out and left eye was featured on numerous of number one hits by herself “u know wassup” the song with her and Mel b and ladies night were all #1 the only reason her solo album didn’t come out is because they didn’t release it in the USA cause her label didn’t believe in it. And the only reason it sold poorly over seas is because it didn’t get any promotion
Some radio stations didn't play rap and would even say so in their ads. If they played TLC, it was always songs without Lisa or versions of other songs with Lisa taken out. Being the rapper in an R&B/Pop group had its disadvantages and she knew that. I wish she could've shown the world how dope she was, solo, cause she really was dope all by herself.
Lisa had a lot to do with the groups image the image is just as important as the music so maybe you didn't hear her as much but you may have like something image wise about the group and say wow I like when they wore that or the stage they performed on Lisa did a lot of stuff like that she was all around creative not just when it came to the music and she had mind for business she learned about the business side of the music industry so Lisa was more than just her voice she could sew the clothes they wore she could airbrush paint she was just very creative
@@jamesde74yeah she was very involved with the album concepts, artwork and their clothing style. Even their set designs on tour. It's sad it took her to pass away for chili and t boz to see everything she was trying to tell them while she was still here. Just how much she contributed to the group showed after she passed. She was the star of the group without a doubt and I think t boz and chilli resented that. I kinda feel like t boz still resents it to this day tbh. It kinda shows in how she talks about Lisa in interviews.
@@jackjill8129 TBoz & Chilli loved Lisa if they resented anything I don’t think they would have continued on for over 10 years anytime you put 3 adults together to work and there are 7-8 figures at hand of course there’s a chance that disagreements will arise and just because they disagreed about business didn’t mean anybody hated anyone or resented anyone they did excellent in standing together as a unit as much as the people around them tried to divide and conquer no matter what happened they stuck together and kept moving forward every other female group just threw everything away when they disagreed but these women stuck it out so to everyone who says that tboz and chilli had some kind of hate or resentment towards Lisa I’m not hearing it just like in a marriage you will have situations come up that’s gone test the unity and that’s in any relationship friendship partnership whatever these girls were solid
One of the many things I love about Left Eye is that she was never afraid of competition. She didn't see Destiny's Child as a threat to TLC, or any other girl group for that matter. She also played a vital role in bringing up new artists like Blaque - as long as she had creative expression, she was okay to help others output theirs as well. She was a unique artist and a figure that is missed to this day in the industry and beyond.
Even though both groups put out bangin hits. TLC were more relatable and likeable. TLC was some down to earth chicks with a message and style out of the world. Lets all remember they were the first ones to make the tomboy look sexy.
True. I love TLC because their music was very meaningful but you can see their personalities. They seem so cool to be around! Whereas honestly Destiny's Child was pretty much Beyonce's child in many ways. I also didnt like how Destiny's Child constantly changed group members...but thats how it works sometimes. Either way I like both.
I think if Lisa had kept it straight R&B Hiphop like she did with "U Know whats Up" for example she could have easily won that 3 disc challenge, as she was the most creative... Esp for music videos and tbh shes had the most success outside of TLC than Tionne n Chilli, even if we include Supernova (it still sold but very slowly...But lets not forget the lack of label promotion it got) plus all her collabs went #2 or #1 in most countries. So Lisa was definitely ahead of the game. Just a shame she never got a chance to see how much she's appreciated!
I never knew she planned a second duet with Mel C for her album. It would have been a smash hit just as Never Be the Same Again. Their collaboration was a great idea, two very talented and creative artists.
I think the 3CD set The Challenge would have been a great idea..Outkast did that years later with Speakerboxx/The Love Below. I think if TLC did that back then it would have blew up. Plus TLC fans would have received more music from them and we could hear each member's potential
I think Lisa would have won. I believe she was a master strategist. I believe people look at "Supernova" as the body of work she would've contributed to the 3-CD set but as her bestfriend stated to me personally, the songs she was thinking up and recording were not far left (no pun intended.). Her contribution would have been a lot less eclectic yet still eclectic, as I was told. She had acquired some of the top producers in the industry (Even evidenced in "Let's Just Do It") to work with which is why she was so adamant about the challenge. Lisa was super creative and her creativity was beyond her time but, she was no dummy. Her idea for "The Challenge" was well thought out and thought out enough to know the recipe for success. JMO.
Beyonce was successful because people were interested in her from the jump & honestly she has that it factor that the others never had, she would've been a star with or without the group
Why do people have to compare groups as Lisa said there is room for both of them and more .....there is a always a nice way to say things why do people always pick the mean way..people can simply compliment one group and if u dont like the other group dont say anything at all #tlcforever
All the TLC members were so unique and special that to this day there has been no other group close to like them. They were not a gimic they were all ahead of the curve.
I feel like Destiny's Child was just a girl group doing things that had already been done before. Now while that's not a bad thing at all it still kind of made them blend into that girl group category. But TLC didn't get blended into that category at all. But I will say that both groups were talented but for me TLC is so much more enjoyable to listen to and watch.
TheRealDanceDiva i agree, destiny's child to me was a modern day diana ross and the supremes, which like you said isnt a bad thing because they were very sucessful however TLC was a type of group never seen before because all 3 girls brought a different unique style to the table.
When they asked her about DC she said there's enuff room for both groups + ten more girl groups. And I wish today that women in the game can see newer girls and support them instead of seeing them as competition.

If you think about it, The solo album challenge between T-boz Left-Eye and Chilli was a smart marketing plan.. At that time, the media was so focused on their relationship with each other and that they were fueding. If T-boz and Chilli would have taken Left-eye up on her offer and sold all three albums in ONE PACKAGE, if would have sold millions, especially with the fueding controversy surrounding it.. I think Left-eye should have consulted with the girls and told them what her plan was..
Just stating my impression: It seems that Left Eye was struggling; trying to form herself; setting purpose of life. It really looks as if she wasn't sure anymore of how to satisfy herself. Personally, i have the impression of Left Eye not liking herself much as she did with the 3rd album comparing to the 1st.The style & rhythm of New jack was a great match with her; after she was forming herself matching the new style of music & the style of TLC; which was in process; being eclectic is I guess was her approach to adapt and recognize the change. So in that process, to me it really make sense that she was visiting Honduras; solitude to hear her own natural voice and the 3 solo set album; challenge to enhance creativity of her team which thoroughly being a strategy with future aspects (imagine a TLC album coming after the 3 solo set! Easy for me to imagine it being great. And even imagine her breaking through the struggles forming new Left Eye..u know) I simply miss her and her creativeness R.I.P

It's true to an extent, and you can really see that because that she wasn't as present during the FanMail era both musically and physically. That said, her raps on that album (and the No Scrubs Main Mix) are some of her most notable to me because they embody a transition period from her CrazySexyCool era style to her deeper work on Supernova and as N.I.N.A. The more I think about it, she definitely had a few different sounds as a rapper during her career.
I never really heard lisa elaborate on what she meant about the three cd thing until now.Because reading it back in the day it came off as if she was saying screw them and lets all release independent albums separately and then see which one would sell the most. When its sounds as if she wanted to do what outkast basically did,she just went about it in the wrong way I feel.
You're absolutely right though. Lisa was always my favorite but what she did at the time was to throw down a gauntlet to the other girls via the press to see who could sell the most - which was not cool. It sounds like she had a chance to reflect and had a change of heart about her approach. Hindsight being 20-20 - if she'd approached it like Outkast did (and even Prince with Bria Valenti (?)), then all three members would have benefited. It's interesting to look at the Fan Mail Tour now and see each of them getting a chance to showcase their talents their own way during the show. It was a missed opportunity.
That's precisely what she wanted to do. The biggest fact that is often ignored is that the 3 CD set idea came from her wanting TLC to further quickly fulfill their contractual obligations to Arista to provide 3 more albums. She wanted to be able to leave Arista, as a GROUP. This is often overlooked, maybe because a lot of people are not privy. But she also felt because she was the most creative in the group this would be a way to prove it. Even long after they all reconciled she STILL went hard after that. Funny thing, the label heads at Arista thought it was a unique marketing strategy and it a good idea. The other two group members were adamantly against it.
So it wasn't about a competition with her sisters. Lisa was trying to get her album released and I think it would have been really cool for each of them to do a three album set depicting each of the singing styles which would have been an other way for fans to get to know their personalities separate from each other. TLC 4-EVER.
Understand that TLC & DC are in the top 3 of best selling girl groups of all time. With that said I will say that DC members have had more longevity in the entertainment business. Ppl rag on Matthew but he never put those girls in such binds where they were broke and projectless. Michelle does gospel and has acting abilities. Kelly is big overseas. Ppl take to TLC cause they have much more struggle and pain. Fine. But ppl are taking away from DC just b/c they didn't broadcast drama.
Let's all be honest here Destiny Child's first #1 hit was bill's bills bills and that was a rip of TLC'S no scrubs. TLC actually featured every girl while Destiny Child really only showed Beyonce. And as far as the best selling girl groups go... The best selling girl group of all time is The Spice Girls. TLC is 2nd and Destiny Child is 3rd. those are the facts. RIP Lisa you are very missed baby girl :)
Please do your research Bills and Scrubs were written by Kandi Burruss from the Real Housewives of Atlanta. That’s why they sound similar LOL. Vocally, Spice girls or TLC couldn't hold a note next to DC. Now that is a FACT TIMES 1000. TLC would never do an acapella set. NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AshTheOne Who the fuck cares about a Brownstone? We are talking Spice Girls, TLC, and DC. Brownstone are not even that damn popular sooooo you can keep them, OKAY! DC would sing circles around the groups that where mentioned in the original post. Brownstones can continue to live under the rock they’re known for... I SAID WHAT I SAID!!!
It would have been great. Left Eye was a genius because the idea she proposed is actually a main staple of korean pop music right now. If you ever listen to K-Pop all the music groups eventually let certain members or all members in the group venture off into a solo album or break into a sub unit which is 2 or more members having a separate album available. What she wanted to do was a concept that america wasn't & still isn't ready for nor understands. over here its either be together or go solo
Crazy how Outkast did that very thing Left Eye wanted to do. Make separate albums from each member to showcase who they are as individuals and package them together.
That 3 album sounds great. Outkast did it for the speakerbox love down below album. Would have loved see Left Eye expand beyond rapping like what Kanye did with 808s and heartbreak.
Thats right boo, tell em! Shes not wild and u know and outrageous, but when shes compared to t & chilli, yeah.. Shes crazy as in adventurous, outhoing, fun, doing spontaneous things, and is outspoken, and yeah i think she said she was upset they didnt take it bc 1 they asked her and 2, bc she just wanted to challenge the record company to get her music out and prove a point.. She said its all love at the end of the day..
Wow I think TLC is better than Destiny's Child because their style, their music, and the message they bring to the fans. I like both but I def love TLC better their music inspired me to be creative and always use safe sex
Tlc always will be better they’re the highest selling female group ever no one is touching them not spice girls or salt n pepa although I like them to. Destiny’s child even said we want to be like Tlc .
oh I agree it was about beyonce. but when they broke up the others could survive. tboz and chilli have struggled. on chilli's show she was almost begging tboz to go on tour. michelle and Kelly, even though they took a back burner to beyonce still have worked
#PREACH!!! we need reminding about this, like daily. we all act like death is unexpected, and only the good die young or even die at all. i just can't with today's reasoning.
Left Eye’s idea is what Outkast ended up doing with SpeakerBoxxLoveBelow, maybe that’s where they got the idea From. They were on the same label at the time...
The media and the public made Destiny's Child about one person but it started as a girl group. Lisa spoke very well, she had alot to say I bet her dairies are amazing to read.
YES!!!! as a package! no artist has done that! but selling them individually would have been a catastrophe. their strength was in being a group. some artist belong in groups
People trying to pen the girls up against each other, that's stupid and why they went against Lisa's challenge. Imagine if Chilli (the underdog) had won since it was an era of pure RNB, how much commotion it would've caused amongst fans: eg: Without Chilli there's no TLC (BS). The girls needed each other and hence they were so successful as a group. So glad they didn't do it, as they would've been seen as a separate entity, instead of the solid unit TLC was.
+President Tumi-Anne i disagree i still think they would have been a solid group but let's be real, the challenge was a great marketing idea and fans would have got more music and we would see each member's potential. Outkast did the same thing with Speakerboxx/The Love Below years later and it was huge
She was ahead of her time...basically destiny child did the same thing Lefteye wanted to do with her bandmates....Dc3 did the individual thing and then came back as a trio...
yes!!! dc barely had songs about sex! they had more relationship songs. about being hurt being in love being happy and sad. but tlc talked about sex WAY more. but then again was more advanced, people getting pregnant in and out of relationships. they had more material from personal sexual experiences to speak on
I think they should have released a 3 cd box set where each of them are kinda solo artiest (it would be different). It would be crazy to see each of them coming out with solo music lol It could have been friendly competition between them. But i think TBoz would have won that shit lol
right they shouldve done it that wat. When u think about it, outkast took that idea from left eye. The plan was to do separate albums then combine them as one. Outkast did the same thing! They did separate albums to make it seem like they broke up then put their two separate albums together and it worked. Left Eye was so ahead of her time
actually there was only 2 girls that were committed to TLC & Left Eye wanted to be solo & I believe that was a good choice for her because she would make more money with a new manager and she can go by her own rules & ideas, Just as well as Destiny Child it was a great idea for all of the girls to go solo they were once all together but society always had their opinion about it so they realize that can make money with or without the group and the are all perfectly fine.
I think the other girls knew nothing other than tlc and wasn't strong enough in their individuality to take on her idea. she was comfortable with just left eye they probably weren't as comfortable
DC3 loved TLC, the both have been called the best selling female group of all time (who it really is, I have no clue), they both were dope. Without either of them, we'd have missed out on alot of good music, so what's the problem?
I caught some lowkey shade in the last segment where she was talking about the styling... I beg to differ. TLC's costumes were very "out there" & eccentric while DC's wasn't so much.

TLC 4-EVER.
that giggle♡♡
i love her honesty!
@AshTheOne ,
The Dixie Chicks 😂.
@@kingbeyfan2598 ,
but they did do acapella re-mixes of some of their songs.
@@kingbeyfan2598 ok I'm late but they did a Acapella in 1992 on a interview.
She was beyond gorgeous!!!!
wow thats a great idea. 3 cd in one pack...
THANK YOU!!!!!!
Love unseen Lisa clips :)
We Love and Miss you Lisa R.I.P.
Never be the same again is one of the best r&b pop songs ever!!! spice girls & tlc together
I love hearing her speak.
Crazy how Outkast did that very thing Left Eye wanted to do. Make separate albums from each member to showcase who they are as individuals and package them together.
James Mercer Rae Sremmard did it last year also
That 3 album sounds great. Outkast did it for the speakerbox love down below album. Would have loved see Left Eye expand beyond rapping like what Kanye did with 808s and heartbreak.
right i actually agree and i love destiny's child but i loved how everyone in TLC had their moments and their times to shine
I love her♥She my favorite female rapper her MC Lyte
I miss her so much. Till this day I wonder how the music landscape would be if Lisa was still here with us.
Destiny’s child even said we want to be like Tlc .
but spice girls has more sales than tlc
no hate Lisa, I LOVE it! there's definitely room for more than 1or2 in the industry.
oh I agree it was about beyonce. but when they broke up the others could survive. tboz and chilli have struggled. on chilli's show she was almost begging tboz to go on tour. michelle and Kelly, even though they took a back burner to beyonce still have worked
Yup and RIP Left Eye.
Rip ❤️
TLC, DC3 and Spice Girls are all you need!!
left eye is a beauty
#PREACH!!! we need reminding about this, like daily. we all act like death is unexpected, and only the good die young or even die at all. i just can't with today's reasoning.
0:54 The statue of Shiva the Indian Goddess of Fire and her talking about burning the house down is tooooo perfect
I miss left eye frfr r.I.p big sis :(
Preach it.
TLC was one of a kind, no group before or after them had that sound.
I wish they would’ve done the three-CD set…. It eventually worked for Outkast two for Speakerboxxx/The Love Below
Plus they've been in the music game since 1990. I have all the right to say they are the best female groupe ever. Plus they sold more.
Exactly.
YES!!!! as a package! no artist has done that! but selling them individually would have been a catastrophe. their strength was in being a group. some artist belong in groups
True Dat!!
one album. their intro into the industry was more r&b but EVERY other album was more on the pop side.
Wow.
You can tell she was really over TLC at that point. But I gotta admit, that 3-CD challenge would've been awesome.
Chilli would have never win lol
She’s the less remembered of the three girls. The real competition was between T & L
Agree.
She was ahead of her time...basically destiny child did the same thing Lefteye wanted to do with her bandmates....Dc3 did the individual thing and then came back as a trio...
yes!!! dc barely had songs about sex! they had more relationship songs. about being hurt being in love being happy and sad. but tlc talked about sex WAY more. but then again was more advanced, people getting pregnant in and out of relationships. they had more material from personal sexual experiences to speak on
LEFT EYE IS SO HONEST I LOVE HER TO DEATH!
I think they should have released a 3 cd box set where each of them are kinda solo artiest (it would be different). It would be crazy to see each of them coming out with solo music lol It could have been friendly competition between them. But i think TBoz would have won that shit lol
She was too real
The Challenge would have been so cool, wish they had done it
her eyes are so pretty and big
Well keep an open mind.. anythings possible. Dont be stubborn.
right they shouldve done it that wat.
Outlast did something like that with a solo album an
She would have been so proud of how successful Beyoncé is now.
I think the other girls knew nothing other than tlc and wasn't strong enough in their individuality to take on her idea. she was comfortable with just left eye they probably weren't as comfortable
I agree, TLC definetely had three 3 very unique individuals working TOGETHER. While Destiny's Child has ALWAYS been completely all about Miss B.
she had such massive , beautiful eyes
DC3 loved TLC, the both have been called the best selling female group of all time (who it really is, I have no clue), they both were dope. Without either of them, we'd have missed out on alot of good music, so what's the problem?
kiira0823 TLC has sold more than them. Spice girls have the top sales overall.
I think when someone speaks their mind an we real about it we misunderstood not crazy because some of us don't fake it
I caught some lowkey shade in the last segment where she was talking about the styling... I beg to differ. TLC's costumes were very "out there" & eccentric while DC's wasn't so much.
R.I.P......Lisa "left eye" Lopes!
She was throwing some light shade! Lol
Natraj ❤️
Last time i checked chili sang too..
well in 99% of groups there is only one lead ...tlc and spice girls were an exception which is why they sold so well.
Its obvious which group was better. The Writings On The Wall (Hint) .
