The Underwater Life of the Caddisfly

Caddisflies are a group of insects with aquatic larvae and terrestrial adults. Often used as models for fishing lures, these creatures make up an important part of the food chain. The aquatic larvae are found in a wide variety of habitats such as streams, rivers, lakes, ponds, spring seeps and temporary waters. The larvae of many species use silk to make protective cases, which are often strengthened with gravel, sand, twigs, bitten-off pieces of plants, or other debris. They have the ability of metamorphose and some of them are called Hydropsyche - Wasserseelchen ..... thanks a lot for sharing

Nice video. Besides having interesting lives underwater caddis are fun to watch in the air in their adult stage. Crazy little critters.
I like to tie imitation caddis & then fish them for trout & landlocked salmon.

I met this species today. I just don't understand its behavior. Several flew towards us, landed in the water and swam to us and tried to climb up the leg while we were standing in the water. I read on the internet that these shouldn't be able to swim, but they did... I couldn't find anything similar about a butterfly. The butterfly had corresponding antennae and was slightly gray or cream in color.
