    The Virginia DMV pamphlet "Medical Fitness for Safe Driving" states that "DMV's goal is to allow individuals to drive for as long as they can safely operate a motor vehicle".     My mom failed the vision test due to her cannot see the third set of letters. She read the first two sets but cannot see the last set. She tried different equipment but cannot not really see the last set of letters. Hence she failed. This is in FL

      Thanks for the question. North Carolina is one of many states that allow people to drive using bioptic telescopic glasses when they cannot meet the usual DMV vision requirements . I have helped several people with macular degeneration, Stargardt disease and albinism meet the requirements for driving legally and safely in NC by using bioptic glasses.
