When the motor was warm, and he went to start it again, you could hear the starter motor push it up to the first piston compression, and it sounded the like the starter motor stalled, but then you heard this earth-shaking rumble. GTX with a 440 and a TorqueFlite. Astounding.

Back in the day, I had a 1970 440 with a high lift and duration cam in my '73 SE Charger. Was a bit of an art form to cold start it, even in the summer. The exhaust at idle would literally water your eyes from unspent fuel. Good times, good times...

When I had my '68 383, I would pump the pedal to the floor 3 times quick and then hold half way down and she fired up every time.
